“The kids set the tone early with outstanding defense,” said Mustang coach Cornel Thompson. “I tell you what, we beat a pretty hard-nosed, talented football team tonight. When you reach this level, you’re playing no slouches. There was some hitting going on tonight. That Coleman kid is tough as nails but he’s going to be sore in the morning. We’re going to have a few guys sore too because that young man was a load to bring down.”

“The quickness and ability, and the speed of the game when they’re on defense was everything it was made out to be,” Lorena coach Ray Biles said. “You can’t redirect or change what you are. We worked on the things we thought we’d have an opportunity to do and the things we’re confident in, and we did our best to make those things happen. It probably wasn’t a stellar performance by our offense, but the kids fought hard all night long.”
