I got an honest question and don't answer like an LU Homer, where is the WOW factor for the press and current members in the SBC in bringing back a former member that didn't WOW you last time before they jumped ship for smaller pastures?
There is none. They hate Lamar. Some has asked moderators to delete any thread or post about Lamar to the SBC. All sweeter when LU get a FBS invite.

Besides, the Sun Belt has already brought back a former member.  Georgia State returns as a conference member next year.

May not have WOWed anyone, but we did have some championships while there.

Baseball - 2  (one more in our relatively short time than 5 longer time members)
Womens Basketball - 1 (vacated by NCAA due to recruiting violations)
Womens Golf - 4
Womens Tennis - 1

Remember, football didn't start in the Sun Belt until after we left and we weren't playing football during those years.  Basketball and Baseball were the main sports back then.  We were very competitive in baseball.

Our record in basketball, though not stellar, was comparable to many of the conference members.  Even so, the worst years were the Mike Newell years recovering from the Tony Branch era and the Grey Giovanine years recovering from the turmoil during and following Mike Newell's resignation.  It's not like we got blown out in every game we played.  We left the conference as a conference basketball tournament semi-finalist.
If my memory is correct, UTPA and BE current member UCF was the 2 worst MBB schools.
That's what I recall also.

I think a lot of people have selective memories.  One of the things I've seen on the Sun Belt Board is "lack of support".  We were in the top three in basketball attendance several of the years with average attendance picking up again our last year.  We were never anywhere close to the bottom in attendance in any year.

Below are the max attendance numbers for each year.  Average attendance ranged from a low of 2,294 in Giovanine's first year to 4,442 in our last year in the conference.  Numbers are from the 2012-2013 Men's Basketball Info Guide on Lamar's athletics site.

1991-1992  5,642
1992-1993  8,033
1993-1994  3,876  (Throw that one out.  :)  )
1994-1995  4,142
1995-1996  8,454
1996-1997  5,089
1997-1998  7,584
Compare those numbers with moving to the SLC,.

My guess would be Ark State, WKU(good basketball), or ULL.

Don't understand the comment.  Ark State, WKU, or ULL in reference to what???

Ha! a first class brain fart!  I had another thread in my head!

If I were the Sun Belt Commissioner, I'd add Appl. State and Georgia Southern.  Good programs.

Since leaving the Sun Belt, our average attendance was never as low as the lowest average in the Sun Belt and never as high as the highest average.  Just eye-balling the numbers, it looks like we averaged around 3,600.  The lowest average atttendance during SLC has been 2,670 with the highest average of 4,063.  We had 5 seasons with max attendance over 6,000.  Top one game attendance during SLC current period was 8,338 in the 2007-2008 season.  Our best attendance was the year before we left for the ASAC.  We averaged 6,615 with a a max of 10,010 that year.  Three years later, we dropped to a Montagne low of 1,629 with a max of 2,932 (Tony Branch era).

I think Appalachian State and Georgia Southern would be good additions and suspect they are at or near the top of the list.

On another note I saw today that an Old Dominion program that started in 2009 was playing in the FCS playoffs for the second year in a row and were going FBS next year as an Independent.

Yes, you're correct. The announcers of the game prettymuch beat that horse to death about Ga. Southern READY to go I-A but no OFFICIAL offer from a I-A conference and ODU going as an independent.

isnt Old Dominion going to conf USA?

thats how you start up a program!  4 years..two playoff appearences..speed, size...one of the best offenses in the nation...played Ga Southern close...qb is finalist for Peyton award.

ODU and UNC-Charlotte are moving to CUSA.  Many feel these additions were made to appease East Carolina Univ, who subsequently decided to move to the Big East along with Tulane.  Thanks guys!

Neither of those additions would have been my first choices.  CUSA should have gone after Georgia Southern.  Good FCS program with history.
Forget them, would not and old rival like Lamar interest UNT fans more than Southern. Lamar fans would travel in football and MBB to Denton over Southern.

What needs to happen is CUSA grab Lamar, State, and ULL then drop Charlotte, ODU, and Fla's schools.

Don't see that happening.
Of course it is not happening. "What I think should happen" should have been a hint.

Sunbelt is currently better than CUSA. Maybe not for the long term. However, it will be easier for a Sunbelt team vs a CUSA, BE, MWC to make a BCS Bowl in new post season play.

Lamar needs to push for the Sun Belt.  A tough conference, with all the changes taking place, I see the Sun Belt equal to the new CUSA.
Agreed. Sunbelt would be on par with the new CUSA.
