My best guess would be Washington....Someone on the forum said something about a 6"4 guy and rebounding.

Trust me, Coach English has surpassed that bar LONG ago in Nederland! They used to get beat by PA Lincoln by 60 and 70 points! I know we put 60+ on them while I was at Ozen...NOW they are competing for district titles and BEATING the Port Arthur team that is now 5A...I would say that bar is LONG GONE!

Well look at it this way..... how many teams in District 20-4A even HAVE a State APPEARANCE let alone a State Title? Two...Ozen and Central, with only Ozen winning a state championship...OK, in the ENTIRE Golden Triangle in the last 20 years? How many schools have won a title? 4...Ozen, HJ, Kountze, and Evadale...They aren't GIVING state titles away, man....They are very hard to come by...Nederland has done very well under Coach E., but to expect a state title out of them is a bit much...Not saying that it will NEVER happen, but look at the number of schools in this area over the last 20-25 years that HAVE...FOUR schools...They are not easy to come by my friend.

[/quote]Did Coach English tell you that is his ultimate goal? I'm sure every coach would love a state appearance and/or title, but it can't be a realistic expectation.
I think it's more about life lessons and providing the best opportunity and experience for each kid he coaches. He's trying to help them reach their full potential.
Last year was not a state championship year, but it helped a kid earn a scholarship to receive a free education and play basketball for 4 years. He was ecstatic that he helped the kid achieve that honor.
We all know it takes a lot of skill and luck to reach state and win it. It will need to be a special group and/or player(s). This IS a special group, but there may be a piece missing. 2016 is also a special group, but they too have something missing.
As DV mentioned, the bar has been surpassed. One playoff appearance from 1955-2008, now four (this year will be 5) in a row including:

20-4A District Champs 2010-2012
Bi-District Champs 2010-2012
Area Champs 2010-2012
Regional Quarter Finalist 2010-2012
Regional Semi-Finalist 2011

English has built a system over here in Nederland. He is a good coach, but a better team-builder.

I hope Nederland wins every-year, but honestly, the best team English had to make it to Austin was the 2011 class.. Hope I am wrong

But all this talk of English had nothing to do with this outcome. Ozen just plain outplayed them for 3 quarters. Nederland will be just fine and still in the hunt for district again
