[/quote]Did Coach English tell you that is his ultimate goal? I'm sure every coach would love a state appearance and/or title, but it can't be a realistic expectation.
I think it's more about life lessons and providing the best opportunity and experience for each kid he coaches. He's trying to help them reach their full potential.
Last year was not a state championship year, but it helped a kid earn a scholarship to receive a free education and play basketball for 4 years. He was ecstatic that he helped the kid achieve that honor.
We all know it takes a lot of skill and luck to reach state and win it. It will need to be a special group and/or player(s). This IS a special group, but there may be a piece missing. 2016 is also a special group, but they too have something missing.
As DV mentioned, the bar has been surpassed. One playoff appearance from 1955-2008, now four (this year will be 5) in a row including:

20-4A District Champs 2010-2012
Bi-District Champs 2010-2012
Area Champs 2010-2012
Regional Quarter Finalist 2010-2012
Regional Semi-Finalist 2011

There are plenty of great coaches out there who never make it to Austin.  Many are, what I call, turnaround artists ,and Mr. English certainly fits in that category.  There are other coaches who do well but always assume the reins at an established program and get some credit that came from whoever preceeded them.  In the many years that I have been watching basketball in this area, I would bet that if you gave Mr. English a losing program to turn around, there would be few if any who would do a better job over, say, a five year period.

The YMBL Semi-Final game could have gone either way (much like Friday's loss to Ozen). Central made their FTs in the end which secured the win. I expect Friday's game to be every bit exciting and intense.

Disagree-  The best talent in Beaumont left several other schools to attend the magnet school, hence a considerable head start vs a school who has an "established poor program" which is something Mr. Boutte never experienced.  I forgot nothing.  I fully understand who had the deepest hole to dig himself out of and you can rest assured it was never Mr. Boutte.

The players may well have come because of Coach Boutte, which is quite a compliment to him.  But the players did come, and quickly.  That's a fact. 

And now in Bmt the players are spread around more, and there is no clear "best coach in the district" any more since Boutte left.

I have to agree with Nash on that ,the team Boutte had that won state in 2001 had been playing together since they were in elementary ,after that year they depended on Perk and KT .wasn't the same team since those years ,yes the talent is pretty much spread around.

Let me add, off of the team that went 36-0 to win state ,not one of the seniors on that team got a scholarship ,focus was on one player we all know who that is. ;) ;) ;)
