I don't think there is anything wrong with Nederland.  There are some small things that Nederland can improve on but sometimes the shots fall for you and sometimes they don't.  Look at Ozen for example. They almost lost to PNG because they couldn't get there shots to go down.  There is a lot of basketball left. Anything could happen!

Also IMO, the BMT schools should be the top runners in the district in all three sports. Football, Basketball, Baseball.  You have 100K + to choose from with a open enrollment with a 5A school already in the area vs the rest of the district with 16k that have 1 school. I think Ozen and Central should be playing 5A. IMO, i think if you have a area with 5A numbers and a open enrollment, you should be playing 5A. Or close the open enrollment and make them go to the school in there living zone. I bet there are some 7 graders and 8th graders right now playing together from different zones in BMT debating on what school they should all go to when they get to high school. Other schools in the district don't have this luxury.
Using your example, Worthing High , Davis, Sterling, YEP, etc all should have good basketball programs in Houston because of the population advantage, but they don't.  #2, there isn't a school in this area who can compete in 5-A playoffs against Houston schools. But 4-A is wide open- no dominant teams.
Do those schools have open enrollment? Sure there is! Ozen and Central would compete just fine in 5-A.  If i am not mistaking but Ozen has won some state titles in 4-A already in there short school history.  I know it will never happen but i think both schools belong in 5-A.
So you want Ozen with its 1200 students and Central with its 1600 students to compete 5A? Your whole thought pattern is flawed. Once again meaningless...
The open enrollment is why i say they should be 5-A.  The Hunter boys could transfer to Central if they wanted or all the starters from Central could have chosen to attend Ozen. Some of the starters from WB could as well.  Yeah that's real fair for other 4-A schools in the district.  ::) Close the open enrollment and make kids go to the school in there school zone and i am good with it.

Really? So Nederland sports have never benefited from Port Arthur transfers? And none of what you're talking about has anything to do with how UIL classifies schools.

Actually, Nederland does have Open Enrollment. We like to fly under the radar and work the program through Open Gym on Wednesday's and Sunday's during off periods. Lot's of good looking athletes from Beaumont, PA and other towns come in for a meet-N-greet with the coach, community and players. We hope to attract transfers through this program at a young age. Preferably, they make the jump going into 9th grade when it isn't so noticeable. The program has not been successful the last few years, but we were able to nab a good freshman this year.  :D

I think this is the bottom line.  There are a few schools/fans that feel that basketball superiority is a sacred right that cannot/should not be challenged from anyone outside of the tight knit fraternity.  When an "outsider" approaches with reasonable credentials, they must come up with a reason for this "anomaly". Hence, open enrollment, weak schedules, illegal financial dealings, yada yada yada.  Interestingly enough, though, if anything such as the aforementioned is suggested for a school like Yates (part of that "frathernity") the wagons circle and the response is "you are jealous" and they adhere STRICTLY to all of the rules.

Why bring Houston Yates into this argument? No one has even mentioned them this entire thread...Nederland has an excellent coach that has gotten about as much as he can out of the kids in that program...When order is restored in Port Arthur (and that will be very soon, by the way ;)) It will be back to normal in Nederland..Meaning victories will be few to none against the Memorials, Ozens, and Centrals of the SE Texas basketball world....I think you guys must face the reality, that program has reached it's plateau...Great run though...But they have SEEN their best basketball days over the past few years. Cherish it..

No, my man..I just know what it is...Been around this thing for a long time, and I know what this is about...Problem is with the claim after 2011, is that I didn't claim it!  ;)...Question: Do you think that ANY kid would have left PA Lincoln in the early 90's to play at Nederland? I didn't think so either...Well, which brings my statement about "order" soon being restored in PA in...Once THAT happens, the basketball landscape in that area will TOTALLY change....Trust me when I tell you....Just remember I told you guys this would happen. ;)

Just like everything else, this stuff runs in cycles.  So, the next time Pt. Arthur has a good year or two, Dickie will be on here saying " I told you so".  I will now boldly predict that it is going to rain one day.  When it does, I will tell you how smart I am.
Yes it does, but the PA Lincoln dominance was NOT a cycle. It was a program that was a cut above....Nederland is going through an upswing over the last few years, but it has been a REASON for it...Coach English is the area's best coach in 4A/5A being oneof them...But he has done about all he can do there..You will see what I am talking about soon enough..

Question, what players currently playing for Nederland are from Port Arthur?
They have had a few throughout the last few years, and the Jr. High schools are getting them now....That's about to end...But that is not the only reason that I feel Nederland has peaked, its just one of many.

So am I understanding you correct? The team that used to be bullied isn't anymore, and that's a problem?

Btw, it's not like the under-levels at Nederland are terrible.. Brian has helped change the culture for young kids in Nederland.. They all want to play basketball

Yes he has, no question about that, but when two areas that are thisclose to one another are competing for kids (and yes they are in direct competition for some kids) All it takes is for one of the programs to have a couple of really good years, and that competition is over...Coach E., has done that...However, when PA comes BACK...Its going to be trouble in the city...I can promise you that! ;)
