This sounds like profiling to me. I know of another local team that did something similar during a school day. Not going to name it but I think most of us know which one it is. But anyway the rule is total BS and another case of the UIL's selective enforcement.
I bet if you look, Katy and some of the other top teams in the state probably have strategically placed "inservice days" scheduled sometime during the final weeks of the playoffs haha

No It doesn't sound like a witch hunt. It sounds like he was on probation and broke a rule. If a normal person is put on probation they can't go in a casino, period. You cant use the excuse that everybody else did it too. Everybody else isn't on probation.

I'm sorry but this is so petty. Really UIL? Do you not have anything better to do? And shame on the whistle blower. I'm sure it was because a "little Johnnie" didn't get to play the week before and the "little johnnie's" momma was upset. We need to back to the days that peopl. Teach their kids that not EVERY one wins. Sometimes you lose but its how you deal with the loss that makes you a winner. Some sports leagues don't even keep score for a 10yr old basketball game so they don't hurt the other teams feelings.

I'll just say this. How many people are lining up for that Ozen job. You have disadvantaged kids in dire straits who's only opportunity to change the direction of their lives before reality slaps them in the face is the gridiron. I was at the game he over-practiced for and what I took from it is that the kids played extremely hard for four quarters and there was intense passion on the sidelines coming from the coaching staff. I'm not going to say "if you ain't cheating then you ain't trying" but we used to leave school to practice in the Dome and what do you know, there were other teams there too. I want my coach pushing my son to the limits of legality, otherwise I would feel he's being cheated. I put Nelson right up there with Claude Mathis in getting the most out of kids in a difficult situation. I don't live in the Triangle though so someone let me know if I'm off base with those thoughts, I just know what i saw last year.

UIL suspends Ozen head football coach Jeff Nelson for 2 games and school is now on 3 years probation after participating in illegal workouts during school day.

This right here is a joke.  Every school does this during the playoffs.

You hit the nail on the head Cougar14, you're dealing with disadvantage kids, some from single parent homes, some are being raised by grandparents. And sports are the only way to deal with hardships in a positive way. I'm not a coach, and i think that it's a tough job trying to motivate kids, and teach them how to live a good, productive, honest life. Not just at Ozen, but all schools, coaches are trying to do whats best for the student athletes. I truly believe the coach made a honest mistake, and was unaware of the U.I.L. rule.        go panthers !!
