Steven Avery Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Is Kountze 3a? They should be loaded with two sophs throwing 85, you dont see that at many 5a schools...plus one is a lefty. Nice!
Guest basketball2012 Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 ok so he prob hit 85 a couple of time and people wanna say its he is consistent at 85??? he prob is around 81-83!! When I hear about all of these pitchers throwing in the mid 80's I go watch them and they are sitting at 80-82. LAst year I went to go watch howell because everyone is telling me he was sitting at 88 and I go watch 2 games last yr and he was at 83-85 whole game. If its a jugs gun u take 5-6 mph off, stalker is the most consistent gun.

Perfect game had him at 86 during the summer and he has been working harder than ever for the past few months and it has paid off. I was a catcher in college and I catch Ethan quite often. I know what upper 80's looks like
Guest basketball2012 Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 On perfect games website they had him top out at 86, and it shows his range is 82-85 mph. I see know 88-89 on there.
OLDGREGG Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 86 was last summer. Now he throws 88-89
Steven Avery Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 I disagree on the comment about the Jugs gun. All summer at perfect game tourneys I sat and watched a jugs gun and stalker gun be withing 1/2 mph of each other with sometimes the stalker being higher. Clipped this from a article about the radar guns:The radar gun technologies appear to have small differences. Jugs guns pick up the ball one foot out of a pitcher’s hand, said Jim Speciale, head of the company’s radar gun department. Stalkers pick up a signal immediately after the ball leaves the hand, said Paul Hataway, a company salesman

Should be fun to watch with still two more years on the bump.
UTfanatic Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 I love how the thread strayed off topic.
Guest kountzemania Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 Agreed...I would also have to consider the Howell kid from Deweyville...signed with Lamar strong right handler should be upper 80's
UTfanatic Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 Do you think that velocity is overrated?
TLB0 Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 Velocity with out accuracy is. Alot of kids out there can throw hard but cant throw strikes.
longball24 Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 Lets be clear there are 3 things college coaches and scouts are looking for #1 is velocity #2 is Bat speed #3 is Base path speed 7.0 60 or less. You will be recruited on these factors alone. most of the kids that have these tools simply are not seen by anyone other than their highschool coaches.
PhatMack19 Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013
Velocity with out accuracy is. Alot of kids out there can throw hard but cant throw strikes.
College coaches all think they can fix location. You can't teach 90+Admin will tell you a story of a kid some years back from SFA I believe. Kid had one of the best arms you've seen but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. At the Babe Ruth World Series in a blowout game a pro scout saw the kid warming up and asked if he pitched. Admin put him in the game and the first pitch was halfway up the backstop at 96 mph. All of the scouts came running to a kid that couldn't pitch but had an amazing arm. He signed a pro contract on the spot without any college scholarship offers. In HS velocity is overratted but as far as scouts go, that is the main thing they look for.
Guest kountzemania Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 I would have agree about not being able to teach velocity. It is something a kid is God given. Yes throwing strikes is important but most college or pro organizations will all tell you they can fix touch and release. I will go with that for the most part. In high school Velocity with ball movement is tough to beat and left or right makes a big difference.
UTfanatic Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 there seems to be some differences of opiinion.... 8) 8) 8)
