Honest Abe
First, I want to say I'm not new to the site, just new to posting on the forum. Hope I don't offend anyone. Central's center should dominate Weisbrod everytime. Too long & athletic, not knocking Weisbrod cuz he's a Coaches dream. That kid plays with his heart & soul, sacrifices his body. If better talent throughout the district played as hard, many Colleges would be calling(not saying any names). For Nederland to even be mentioned for a Championship in basketball is a Credit to the Coach. English gets every ounce of talent & skill out of his players. Central & Ozen are both very talented & athletic. Nederland guys are very fundamental & disciplined. Call me crazy but I'll take latter of the two cuz the last I checked, this not very athletic team has been winning district. Sort of like Cinderella @ March Madness. So to answer the question of which team wins, I say central, but 20 years ago when I Played @ the Bee Hive I wouldn't entertain such ridiculous questions, but nowadays I must answer so I think central wins. Give English a couple of these athletes..... I'll let the Dogs fans tell you guys how he would do. Thanks for the forum to freely agree to disagree. Campbell 1990Mighty Bumblebees
As 5 on 5 mentioned earlier, Wileridge got the best of Weisbrod last game. He scored at will, blocked shots, and dominated the glass. He is a beast!Weisbrod does leave it all on the court, and I have seen him dominate kids who have superior talent over the last two years. Heart is something you can't coach. Hopefully he (and the team) can slow Wileridge or get him into foul trouble. It will take great team defensive effort to slow him down. Sometimes, however, it takes more than just effort and heart to stop a kid like Wileridge. ;)

Prep schools are allowed to recruit bc they are privately funded. Public schools should not have that option.

So, they do NOT play in the North end. 8)
majority of those bball players i bet are from the north end. ;)
And several of those players were originally going to go to Ozen ;)
And Ozen has some players that were originally going to HF....
Not true. One player originally went to HF High & transferred. The other was originally recruited by a prep school but decided not to attend. The Central soph. players I was referencing had verbally said they were attending Ozen and changed their minds that summer before entering as Frosh. ;)
Beaumont is a district of choice, so until school starts those freshmen are free to chose where they want to go. And what is the difference in being recruited by a prep school and deciding not to attend, and being recruited by Ozen and deciding not to attend?
Maybe I should have made myself clearer. I don't care if the kids went to Central. Just the thought if they had attended Ozen........ ;)
I agree, that would have been a great combination. But Ozen did get Boyd, what happened to him?
Boyd is on JV and will probably be moved up to varsity in a few days
baddog
Wrong Soulja. Dove mentioned shuffling players around Beaumont, so what else could that lead to? Hey, when you get the right combination of talented players and the coach that everyone loves, you could have a championship caliber team, yet you mention PA players on our team, when our district lines jut across Hwy. 365.Back onto topic now. I am finished. Sorry Abe.
Honest Abe
No apologies necessary. 8)Unfortunately, about 1/2 of all meaningful threads on the Bball forum turn into a discussions about recruiting. In order to win Tuesday, Dawgs must slow Wileridge, limit TOs, and control the boards better. We can't get down by double digits again and have to play catch up all game. We got as close as two points last game with about 2 min remaining, then TOs killed us in the end.
Bigcam2903
Forgive me for getting in on the recruiting topic late, but i must say when all was good in Beaumont (winning district titles between Central & Ozen) no complaints, but now other schools are developing programs, i hear recruiting statements. Guys, kids have been shuffling through different schools for years either by the parents, Coaches, friends etc. Dont quite know how that works these days, but back at the Bee Hive, we could care less if a player left because we had plenty of guys to fill in. I guess being perennial State Champs keeps the poachers at bay LOLI guess i'm trying to say let's quit crying and play ball. You guys sound like that no good Lane Kiffin who does things, but when others do it to him he cries foul. I'll say again, Nederland has no business competing with the likes of Central & Ozen every year, but Kudos to those kids for showing how fundamentals are forever, being athletic is temporary. Oh and by the way, where were all of the Panther fans on Senior night?? Central, I was @ senior night when Gully played and it was awful also. I see Nederland fans. Let's show support to the kids whatever the teams records are. Mighty Bumblebees
Baller 93
I hope I'm wrong, but this talk about recruiting sounds a little like an early excuse being concocted prior to a defeat. Again, I hope that's not correct since my self personally have never said anything the about the pa kids on the district championship teams...
Please enlighten me on these pa kids you speak of? James Mosley
In order for the Dogs to win they need to turn English loose and let him rain in 3's,,,,,,little partial to watching this kid shoot the ball. Hope he rips twenty 3 point attempts.....

When you can maneuver players from an entire city with enrollment enough for 3 high schools, playing against 4a schools seems a bit slanted now doesn't it?
What's the difference between a Beaumont eighth grader choosing to go to Ozen or Central and a Port Arthur eighth grader choosing to go to Nederland High School? If he lives in PAISD, he goes to PAISD. If he lives in NISD, he goes there. Huge difference.
