Coach Brazos, Coach Carmen Stewart, Danny Thomas.  They were all at Lamar Fleming when I was there.  My cousins kept me up to date on them when I went back to Silsbee.
Somehow, I'm just finding it hard to entertain my idols Frankie B. & C. Stewart in the same conversation with Silsbee, Texas. ;D ;D

Back in the day Kashmere played Silsbee for the first time that I know of.  The game was played in Silsbee, at the old SHS gym.  The new high school hadn't been built yet.

Silsbee had this guard, I forget his full name.  His last name was White, if I recall correctly.  Anyway, he had a breakaway lay-up.  He had a nice touch on putting lay ups off the back boards.  He couldn't dunk so he laid it up.  Out of no where Karl Godine flew up and slapped the ball off the glass at least a foot above the rim.  Needless to say that brought the house down.

Silsbee hung around, but Kashmere ended up winning by double digits.
Actually, Coach Brazos, Stewart, & Yates were at E.O.Smith first, the feeder school for Wheatley. Danny attended Smith maybe one year and went to Fleming Junior.
Gary White. Was a true point guard and as quick as they come. Good guy.

I don't know if you knew this, but Coach Brazos was the SOLE REASON my father left Madison to go to Kashmere to coach. You know he was like a father to my dad...He told him about his pancreatic cancer, and asked that he come back to the north side and get that program where it needed to be, because it was in "bad shape"...My father never told anyone outside of family why he went there...Coach Brazos passed in September of 1999, and Stewart died last year...
Man, we could start a whole new thread on these people. Last time I saw Stewart :'( was in high school.  I'll never forget after he became a counselor,  he showed me a wad of money. He said "son, just stay in school." I stayed in school but still ain't had the money he had. ;)  And Frankie B,  :'( the man was like a God among basketball coaches.

Hey man, when Coach Brazos was still coaching at Kashmere, my sophmore season, we were playing against them in a tournament in Fort Worth, and I had hit four threes by halftime and had 16 points, but I don't think I took a shot after about the 3:00 minute mark in the 2nd qtr....This man CAME IN OUR LOCKER ROOM at halftime and started first fussing at my dad for not getting me the ball at the end of the half, THEN fussed at me about not taking over the game!! He said, "nevermind being a 10th grader, son, you need to KEEP SHOOTING the ball, BOY!! What is wrong with you, son? SHOOT IT!" I never forgot that moment, and I never will... ;D ;D
