I have to disagree. Yates players were trying to intimidate Silbee's players after the HJ game. I am a witness. I watched the whole thing. Four guys from Silsbee were conversing with a HJ fan. The lady asked Jordan if he thought they could be Yates. He said that he did because he feels like that can run with them and  he felt that they have a deeper bench then HJ. All 12 or 15 players from Yates starting taunting the players from Silsbee. Jordan laughed and that big guy with the mohawk started to approach him. The Yates coach was standing with his players and allowed this to happen.  (He was actually laughing when they hurled insults at the players from Silsbee, SMH) The HJ fan told the kids from Silsbee to leave and they complied. I have lost all respect for the Yates team and coaching staff. In my opinion Yates is good if you like a run and gun team who has alot of great athletes. I thought they were very frustrating to watch as a basketball purist. They are not fundamentally sound, they dont run an offense, they can't shoot from the outside. Their big men cant even hit mid range jumpers which is detrimental, because in college at 6'7 they will post likely play the forward position. All they want to do is dunk. I never thought I would root for Silsbee in any game, but I hope they beat Yates,

I can absolutely respect everyone's opinion but all the whining and crying about transfers... who's legitimate, level playing field has to stop. It's starting to sound like bitter children on the playgrounds. I WILL NEVER TEACH MY KIDS that just because whomever is on the other team that they won't be able to compete. It's just basketball not a test to get into NASA and when you establish a program that wins YOU DON'T HAVE TO RECRUIT kids will find their way there. It's the same as when HJ was winning Ships...Lincoln...and Silsbee or Kountze...

Now to the game I've said numerous times that Silsbee could beat Yates because they are one in the same.?..Silsbee just the smaller version of Yates...Silsbee uses the same tactics as Yates... Silsbee plays aggressive talks trash, fouls hard etc etc...so don't act like Silsbee is at a disadvantage and that they are the cinderella darlings...Silsbee will handle the pressure just fine. Boxing out will be key...as Yates is long and athletic...As for the assumption Yates can't shoot don't believe me just watch..lol...they can get hot in a hurry and the game will be a blurr..and their style is not for you to like or anyone else for that matter it fits the talent they have..Does Silsbee not play the same way..c'mon...we are forgetting that will probably go down as one of the greatest games in high school bball history or it will be like watching the history channel..*shrugs*...Coaching is about even...so that leaves the players WHO WANTS IT MORE ?

I'm glad we agree to disagree.  I was there also and your facts are not completely accurate.  Which Coach are you saying was standing there with these players and pretty much approved of what you said happened?  Can you describe which one this was?  Our principal and the HISD officers who were present were handling the situation to see if anything further needed to happen.  We would love to pass that information along.  I'm glad to know that a single strange fan from HJ was able to merely say move along and the boys from Silsbee simply shuffled along.  We respect your sound skills assessment of our team, you did a great job, maybe you should have passed that information along to the HJ coaches and the outcome would have been in their favor.

I'm sorry, you don't approve of our particular style of play.  Now, if you think that we're not capable of and don't already have the skills needed to compete against a team who plays the slow tempo, 4 corners, set it up (in other words the ability to run plays) we can, we have and we do.  We have played several teams we had to play that way.  But in the end, we control the tempo of the game, we will play our game, not theirs.  But I'm sure a basketball purist like yourself understands that.  Yes, dunking is a tool in our tool bag, are we ashamed of it, NOT AT ALL!! BTW, we got maybe 30 points from the dunks, how do you account for the remaining 89?  Maybe you should encourage your teams to add a few more tools to their current toolbox and maybe things will work out in their favor.  I'm sure If I asked you what about the team you respected prior to the other night, it would take you a moment to gather your thoughts. You can't please everyone and we know this.  I'm sure Yates is not the first group of people, participating in a sport who's guilty of trash talking and I doubt highly they will be the last.

After the Silsbee and Kashmere game, ALL of their players along with and adult (can't say it was a coach or not, so I'm not going too), came up the steps and started hurling remarks at our fans along with messages that they wanted Yates and to tell our boys what was going to go down. We didn't run down the stairs or any of the foolishness that should have went along with it.  We weren't offended either.  It did show us that SILSBEE is ready to play also.  Most athletes and competitors are going too at some point.  So don't wag your finger at our kids as if this is something that you have never witnessed before.  Me personally, I'm glad nothing came of the situation that couldn't be corrected.

So while I respect your opinion, I highly disagree with it. However, love us, like us or hate us, It doesn't matter at all.  We are here in this area to play and we are playing to win.

You ever hear of waking up a grizzly bear with a stick in your hand the size of a small twig? That's what Silsbee just did! Not smart...now instead of getting beat by 30, Yates will likely put 45-50 on them!!  ;D

I see u like playing with Yates " basketballs" get off ur knees dick vitale !! Yates ain't nothing ....win or lose, will still be proud of them ...

WOW!!! Did you say Yates is nothing. Excuse me "ain't nothing". You sound like Honey Boo Boo. The players will decide it on the court Tuesday evening and by the way, the JY fans will be in the building. I just want to see a fair game called by the refs. It seems like we have to play against the refs as well. HJ had an extra man on the court with one of the 'refs' making some horrible calls. It is very rare that a ref calls a 'tech' without prior warning.

Love it, man. Silsbee, be careful of what you ask for because you just might get it. In fact, you did. It didn't matter who we played. We are playing to win, against whomever. Lace up your sneakers folks, it will be a great game.

The Silsbee fans were probably hurling insults at the Yates players, because they found out about the Lions players taunting the 4 Silsbee kids at the game. What they did is wrong and I can't believe that adults on this thread are trying to condone their behavior. The fat black coach was the one encouraging the players to try and  intimidate the kids from the Tigers team. I would say that the yates defense is okay, but their press is not impossible to break. ???
