AggiesAreWe Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 Students will be getting out of school at 1pm Tuesday. This will allow students, staff, and admins time to travel to Huntsville for 6pm game against Yates.I did hear there may be some buses for Tiger fans to travel on but have not received confirmation on this yet.
Skip Bayless Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 Will you message me and let me know if you find out about the fan buses Aggie ?

bobbymcgee Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 Is this within UIL rules? I am pretty sure you can't have an early release for an athletic event. Ozen's Jeff Nelson was suspended for having a practice during normal school hours. How is this any different? Kids are getting out of class for sports.
rawrpower Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 Silsbee students were also let out early for the football playoffs . I think the school knows what they're doing .
bleedmaroon Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 The early release is.because the school will need to run the bus routes and get students home so that drivers and buses will be available for the various groups heading to Huntsville and other places for other events, such as baseball, etc...
AggiesAreWe Posted February 25, 2013 Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 Schools can have early release for whatever reason as long as the school completes their required school days for school calendar year.bobby, you are reaching. ::)
Castor27 Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 For reference:http://www.tea.state.tx.us/index2.aspx?id=7085Schools may have early release up to 6 times a year for a set list of reasons. Playoff is one of the listed reasons. So if they don't have 6 already on the calendar then they are fine. If they have 6 on the calendar (I have no idea what the school calendar looks like) they will have to change one of the scheduled ones to a full day.

Did you contact the UIL and determine that it's against the rules? Did you contact any of your contacts in YOUR LOCAL school system and get their opinion? What, bobbymc, what? It happens regularly in all school districts - so apparently ignoring the UIL is more widespread in Texas than any of us ever imagined. S T R E T C H and S T I R, bobbymc. ::) 8)
