Yes 2 teams from each district make the playoffs but there is only 16 districts, so that is 64 teams in two divisions.  Currently there is 3 teams from each district and there is 32 districts, so that is 96 teams in the playoffs.  There will actually be less teams in the playoffs.

That sounds good! I always thought it would be good to limit it to 2 teams from each district. But, maybe have some wild card spots. Now, I never thought through it enough on how those wild card spots would be determined.

Wrong.

4 teams will make the playoffs out of each district even after they split the divisions.

Currently in 1A and 2A with split divisions, 3 teams make the playoffs from each district. That number will go to 4.

With four teams would the playoffs start a week early?
no, why would they start earlier?
More games to play?  The fourth place team in a four tem district will just cut into the basketball season another week....If you finish fourth you need to land the plane...  ;D

Heard Padilla put out some interesting stuff today about 6A, maybe way smaller in numbers than most thought.
That was the hunch that I had about the new 6a. I thought it would be used to isolate the powerhouse 5a schools, but the uil is so unpredictable that it probably won't be quite like that.
So basically, the District games are like pre-season games for the playoffs since most teams will be in the playoffs.

There are not really more games to play.  Instead of the 1st place team having a bye, they would just play a 4th seed.  Same amount of time

also, now that i think about it 21-6A could very well look like this:
im thinking cutoff around 2060-2069. 2069 would be my guess for 6A.

If 21-6A looks like that you got 6 teams off the bat that could challenge for a playoff spot.

That would b lower than the current cutoff for 5a, so I'm a bit curious as to why you would expect it that low. I think it won't be any lower than 2200.
In any case as an SC fan I'd be happy with them being in that district rather than the one the 5a humble isd schools are currently in, definitely.
Look at Highland Park enrollment. What ever their enrollment is, add +1 or more.

Yeah I got the joke, but there are a plenty of schools in 4a larger than Highland Park. The largest is Mission high, with 2084

I foresee our local 3A (4A) districts to be something like this:

Division I

Bridge City
Silsbee
WO-S
Huffman
Splendora
Cleveland
Jasper

Division II

Hamshire-Fannett
Hardin-Jefferson
Orangefield
Liberty
Tarkington
Coldspring
Shepherd

I expect Buna to drop down a classification
Thought I would put the last UIL official enrollment figures to the divisions (data from UIL website) for everyone's enjoyment ;)

Splendora    969                        Tarkington    585
Huffman        962                        Liberty          575
Cleveland      928                        Hardin-Jeff    570
Silsbee          822                        Coldspring    540
Bridge City    773                        Ham-Fan      534
Jasper          729                        Shepherd    534
WOS            686                        Orangefield  520
