This makes me question the character of HD more than the character of the officials.

By Coach Fortune's own words, it ain't modern, it ain't great, BUT IT IS THERE!!! And Mike will be there to bring United Timberwolves' Football to you tonight. THAT IS ALL!!!!

Looking at the records there's not a Great team in this district.... I by no means think the Dogs are something special. However, after seeing them against a far more talented, and much bigger Lufkin squad I like what I see. Potential and heart. Something that's been a lil scarce the last couple years. We definitely have the waterbugs on offense to put up some points. The potential is there, lets see if we can put it all together and make it work.

I'd only mention that Jacksonville made it really, really easy. Vidor might have a better throwing QB than Jacksonville, and that's saying something given how little gametime practice throwing he gets. But this thread isn't about Jacksonville, so I'll concede you're correct that Nederland beat the snot out of them. I think it means Nederland is a good team. Maybe not a great team, maybe not even that good of a team. PNG has had years and years of absolutely decimating weak teams (2014 comes to mind) with record-setting performances only to get a wake-up call against Nederland. I will say PNG has faced three weeks in a row of playing only bigger and faster competition (all either 5a2 or 6a) in close games with a lot of adversity (a lot of it self-inflicted). Nederland has had one tough game against a good team, and a tune up game against an awful team. In that way, PNG is "older" in the season, which may provide an advantage. The key will come down to the defenses. It isn't clear to me that we should say that Nederland definitely has a better defense than PNG -- Against their only good competition they gave up a whole bucket of points about as quickly as a team can give them up. So they may be in the same boat as PNG, defense-wise. It's looking like it will be another one-score game. Also, if ya'll see an adult-looking kid step in at QB or RB with a strong resemblance to Roschon Johnson, pay no attention. That's our new freshman, Joshcon Rohnson. Just moved in.

Alright boys, we are gonna set the record straight on the officiating for the Deweyville game. Here are the official stats for HD Offense vs. Deweyville Defense: HD had 92 Total yards before penalties on both sides were assessed. H-D had 95 yards in penalties offensively, and should have had more considering they were false starting on the majority of their plays (Only 5 were called). They were also called for illegal formation and delay of game. Deweyville had 40 yards in penalties defensively, leaving HD with 43 total yards of offense. Overall, Deweyville had 6 penalties for 60 yards. HD had 14 penalties for 125 Yards. 5 of HD's penalties were personal fouls with 3 being unsportsmanlike conduct. Can't drop the F-bomb on the ref or throw your helmet. After all penalties assessed to both sides, Deweyville had 445 yards of Total Offense. Hope this helps clear things up. Peace

I haven't heard of any transfers from BU to the Fruit. Do know that we had a kid from Doby that's on the football field that should make us bigger and better on the court. What I like about Wilson is that he recruits the hallways and does it with our kids that are already here. I've seen a lot of coaches come and go here at WOS but haven't quite seen one that works as hard as him. He continuously has his athletes do weight training, jumping and skills. The Proctor kid that barely played last year has gained 20 pounds of muscle, now 6'6 and is dunking with ease. I asked the kid the other day what have you been doing and he said coach makes us jump and lift. I think people will be surprised what we have building under Wilson.

This one definitely did not turn out how I expected....Longview played really well in the second half and limited BWB to 1 score...that was definitely a great second half...I hope the Lobos continue to build on it...we only have 2 good teams in our district so I hope we keep up the work...Good luck to WB the rest of the way...if they can figure out some defense, they will be a hard out.

Last years team was very hard to evaluate. If you looked at the team that went to Dallas during Christmas break it had Bush, Briscoe, Cartwright, Gilder, Harper, and Baltrip on it. That group had the potential to be a contender. At the end of the year Briscoe and Cartwright were gone which greatly reduced the offensive threats. It left much of the offensive work for Bush. He was great but could not do it all. I think the team will be better this year. They may not start off as good as last years team but I expect them to challenge everyone by the time the playoffs open. I would not surprise me if they made it to state again. I am not sure what caused the lines but here it is clear.

I will say this. Longview’s o line is dominating. Hang strong , Brook!

No... he was the real deal. I was kinda glad that my kids/nieces/nephews got a chance to see him in action in his later years. They were aghast. He yelled (about Obama) “YOUR PRESIDENT IS A BLUE-GUM “n-word)” at the Thanksgiving table one year. Then he repeated it a time or two in case anybody missed the gist of his sentiment. But those people are dead or dying at this point. Hate to see them go, but it’s good to see those old attitudes and beliefs disappear.

Excellent point. A coach does not just stumble up on 760 wins. If it was that easy every coach would reach that level. A coach can't just roll out the ball and let his payers run then go into the office & mark off another day toward retirement. Sigler had to manage attitudes & egos, on & off the team. In the stands. He took what he had and adapted his talent to his system. He sells his teams on playing defense. He gets a team full of relatively short runners he gets them to trap and press. Defense is consistent. Kid rolls in with a good but streaky jump shot. Homemade shot developed on the concrete at 21st, or Waldo Matthews, 9th street, when I was a boy. Mom ain't got no $thousands to hire a shooting coach. The player hits his open shots beautiful. When he is missing, defense. Trap and press, all the way to regional finals, all the way to SA. All the way to back to back state championships. I'm watching a APSU game early in the season last year. Player on the opposing team throws a cross court pass. Jay Adams breaks on the ball and takes it the other way for a lay up. The player from the other team hadn't watched Silsbee basketball video. Probably never heard of Silsbee or their coach. Adams gets loose the rest of the season, hits jumpers. Runs beautiful lay ups. Makes a name for himself. The influence of his high school coach played a part in all that.
