What a crying shame for those kids. As with so many changes, this wouldn’t have happened 30 or 40 years ago. Covid? The medium age for Covid deaths is somewhere in the 70’s. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Coach Babin. Based on what I’ve seen and where he’s been.. he’s definitely a quality coach. But make no mistake, had they not dropped there would have been NO success in football. Keep that in mind. I’m not certain that they could successfully implement a spread style offense where they are now. They go back up to 5A it’s gonna be an immediate struggle. Comments like the one you just made: “A great coach could win at Lumberton using the spread”.. is the reason that the school struggles with consistency in the coaching department. I feel sorry for whoever gets the job knowing that there are fans with unrealistic expectations.

I got some further clarity on the 10-5A-I situation from both Coach Morgan and Matt Stepp. 1. They did continue zone play. Last week's Manvel/Richmond Foster game was the district championship game. 2. Manvel will be the #1 seed out of 10-5A-I. 3. Richmond Foster will be the #2 seed. 4. Hightower has clinched a playoff berth. 5. Paetow and Angleton play this week for the final playoff spot. 6. If Paetow wins, they will play Hightower next week in a #3 seeding game (winner #3 loser #4) 7. If Angleton wins, they will concede the #3 seed to Hightower and enter as the #4 seed.

Yes! Yes! Yes! The community, just as much as the players and coaches, have to be a part of the culture. Yes, a good coach will have the team in the right offense (and defense) to suit the personnel. It is just that the offense very might be the slot T. No, it is not a favorite of mine either. But it is an offense that, if run correctly, can be very explosive. Ask me, I know, Pleasant Grove gashed my beloved Mustangs, who are known to have a decent defense, for 41 points in the 2017 title game. Liberty Hill has won titles with it. You can score and win with it. Running it is not an admission of inferiority. It doesn't mean that you don't believe you have the athletes to win. It is run because that is the best fit. I have been told to win in the spread, your quarterback needs have around a 60% pass completion percentage. Does Lumberton have that type of quarterback? I don't know. If they don't, a change to the spread like so many desire here would only guarantee that your defense will see a lot of time on the field. 3 plays that take only about 20 seconds off of the clock can do that. If folks here in Lumberton don't trust the coach to institute the offense that best suits the players, then it would behoove Lumberton ISD not to hire that coach.

That's the first step to the creation of a favorable culture. Trusting that the coach is doing what's best for the program.. and that little Johnny would happily fill whatever role is needed of them.

I expect to see a great game. CS will be the best team WOS has seen so far this season. It should be close, at least early and up until halftime. But we have the coaching and the athletes to make the adjustments. By the time we raise 4 fingers, I think it will be out of reach for the cougars.

That's because Coach Smith refused to play at ancient Abe Martin in Lufkin. Said he would never play there again if he had the choice. Word is that he almost had Carthage talked into playing in Silsbee.

I’ve never been inside a Scott Surratt locker room, but from interviews and tidbits over the years I can tell you that “locker room wall” and/or “bulletin board material” is not needed for this program. They are always motivated just to go win the next state championship. Every class that comes through there wants to win one just like the classes before them and they work for it everyday. If you play in the Carthage program and don’t win a championship, you are nearly in the minority since Carthage wins it more often than not. No one wants to be one of the teams that didn’t.

The UIL might of done Silsbee a favor moving HJ and HF over to Huffmans district the next two years while Silsbee rebuilds.

I’ve heard even the NYT has said that mail in voting is ripe for fraud. Everyone knows it. You can bet that, barring some miracle, the Dems will win both Senate races in Georgia. Do I think the Dems cheated? Absolutely. Same Party trying to get Californians to move to Ga to vote on the above Senate races. The Dems have kicked out God so they have zero morale obligation to do the right thing. Evil has no rules.

You think everything is going to happen in 2 seconds. Trumps team is gathering evidence. That's the way it works. If you keep an open mind you will see that there is tons of evidence piling up. Come on -- even you can't think that all of this was a legit election when at the end of election day Trump was up 700,000 votes and then a couple of days later he is losing by 40,000! Even you would have to question this. That's why Pennsylvania was one of the states that stopped the vote count. They had to find the votes. The Dominion/Smartmatic couldn't keep up with the fraud needed. I trust you have been paying attention and know what Dominion/Smartmatic is?

I remember looking up to big Randy in my Woodville days before I moved to Jasper. He had a great personality and was fun to watch play baseball. Prayers for his family.

This is the second huge loss we have taken in as many years. Thanks to everybody for the condolences and RIP Coach Randy aka Big Dawg. Thank you for the memories and the thousands of lives you impacted over the last quarter century. I know you’re up there living it up with Reggie as I type this post.

The outcome, i dont think it will be as lopsided but this year it would have to be an upset if the Tigers were to win.

I think this is gonna be a good game. I like the Pirates chances (the ones from DV). I said last week that if HD and DV get past WS and Cushing, they’ve got a clear path to the regional semi’s. The Bobcats couldn’t pull it off but WS will stroll past Sims Bowie by 20+ points. The battle of the Pirates will be closer but i think The ‘Ville brings home a close victory. And if that does happen, they’ll catch Tenaha or Bremond who aren’t invincible this year.... especially a week after they beat up on each other. (I honestly think Tenaha turns it into a track meet and takes Bremond to the woodshed) Good luck Deweyville from HD!!

Coach Babin is a very nice well respected person. I have really like him and he worked extremely hard at Lumberton The majority of the players liked him and he increased the number of participants in football. He will do well in his next position and I surely wish him well However he was not very successful at Lumberton. He had a couple of playoff appearances, but if you look at his record it is slightly below .500. That should give everyone a good idea of how tough it is to win at Lumberton

I would like to think that coaches use whatever system fits the talent or lack of... of the kids they have. I know that a coach is considered a bad coach when they don't win but none of them are trying to lose on purpose...even the bad ones. It's very possible that the kids currently at Lumberton just don't have the personnel to spread it out and sling it around. I understand that's what all of the sideline coaches want their hometown teams to do but let's be real. Everyone wants to go no back with some run/pass option but come on.. Why risk a 70-0 loss due to 3 incompletions and a punt every possession without burning any time. Even the offensive coordinator from Austin Westlake will NOT be able to do whatever he does at WL if he came to Lumberton.

So very true. Do those coordinators have to deal with: 1. Community and athlete "buy in" 2. Limited resources 3. Average to below average athleticism 4. Lack of commitment 5. Small, inexperienced staff etc........

If I had to keep up with the bi-district as well as our district, I guarantee you I would be making this post stone drunk because that would be what I would be driven to.

It would be nice to know potential playoff opponents for the 1st round. Dist 8 is in a whole other region and has no baring to either PA or United. And the Chronicle hasn't been doing a great job like it use to of certain Houston area schools......

Hopefully, next season, Dist 10 5A D1 will be covered instead of Dist 8......

I had to throw a little shade when I said that just in good fun. Vidor knew they were big underdogs, but I thought Vidor had a decent shot at beating this Lindale team and I know the players thought they could too. They gave Lindale all they wanted tonight, I can promise you that! lol
