Big difference in playing styles in this matchup and moving forward. China Spring guards must be able to handle the pressure consistently in order to make this interesting. HJ's defense against guards is ELITE! How deep is China Spring? Depth will be a big issue also especially with the pace that HJ plays at. HJ goal is 90+ possessions a game. HJ's ultimate goal is to play at a fast pace not to just score 100, it just has been working out like that lol.

4th round matchup between HJ & China Springs. China Springs defeated Mexia 40-35. HJ averages at least 50 points at halftime. Either way, you should never underestimate a team. Ready for round 4! Good luck to the Lumberton Lady Raiders and the BU Shewolves in the 4th round!

This is actually correct. The uil allowed them to make their own rules. It’s a double-edged sword - we often b&jch about the uil not being flexible and then do the same thing when they are. As stated before, as long as no other schools were negatively impacted by the initial rule, I don’t have a problem with it being changed for the BENEFIT OF THE KIDS. But if one school was already forced to play under that rule (ala the Vidor Pirates in our district here), then you can’t change it. I’m assuming that’s the not the case since we haven’t heard of it. So LET THEM PLAY and have a great, healthy game tonight.

I was about as close as anyone buying a ticket could be and I didn’t see anything that warranted a suspension but I don’t make those decisions. I did find it curious that only one player was suspended for fighting. I have a few scars of my own but never got one shadow boxing.

All things considered, there is only one highly probable outcome. HJ goes to the next round.

HJ will not have as many possessions. They're going to hold the ball and slow things waaaaaay down against HJ. I don't necessarily think China Spring is any better or worse than Silsbee, but their style is much better suited to keep the score reasonable against HJ.

Really cant explain other than the right person in the right place at the right time. Kinda like the guy that walks into a store on a certain day and buys the winning lottery ticket . Idk. He has two years left on his contract. This year has been a mess for a lot of teams. I will say that if he scheduled 6 NAIA teams (like McNeese), his record would be better. As for recruiting, he has one of the best freshmen in the conference and one of the best recruits Lamar has had in a long time in Kasen. And I think this is only his second losing season he’s had. If you’re going to buy someone out, you better make sure the replacement is going to be better. “Taking a flyer” on a HS coach who has never coached at the collegiate level would definitely not fit that bill.

That’s his Achilles heel imo. That’s the thing I like about Arceneaux - he lets the game come to him and rarely forces anything. Griggs is that score-first point guard that doesn’t always make the best decisions with the ball. He is supremely talented but that the one knock I have on him.

If Silsbee did play and beat a "Yates Lite" team, I assure you I would take no joy in it. It would feel like a hollow and empty win. As I've said before, they have seen far worse than Yates this year in having played United twice. Maybe that experience will help them out a bit. Just go out there and play and let the chips fall where they may already.

Heck there is no guarantee we would beat their jv. And if we did we may have the exact same thing happen to us the next week. Unfortunately that is life right now. I dont like what covid has done any,ore than anyone else.

Exactly. Actually I understood the rule in the playoffs because you have to keep the bracket moving. The rule made by this district was just lazy, unimaginative stupidity.

That’s because the UiL let’s the districts police themselves. That’s why Lancaster can have 2 in-season move ins immediately eligible to play and HF can have a kid who has lived in the district several years switch from a private school to his zoned public school and not be allowed to play. Makes no sense? You got it. And @SportsJunkie32 is right. Yates isn’t doing anything those guys up in DFW haven’t been doing for years. They create a couple of super teams per division and take them to SA with sweeps on their minds. JY (and some others) is simply fighting fire with fire.

If that’s never been bettered, then by its very definition, yes. It was only the second playoff win in school history I believe. Has nothing to do with being loose with terminology - it was a historic win for the school.

Average compared to whom? Yates? Then I would agree. But that is a senior-laden group who play very well together. Can they compete with the big bad Lions? Likely no. But they also draw from a population base of 8k compared to 2.3 million. That’s right, you have roughly 287 times the population base of Bridge City from which to recruit. I understand it has been a down year recruiting for Coach Wise but your student body of athletes is still one any coach down here would salivate for. So when you denigrate a team by calling it average, just remember you are the 21 year old playing in the park with middle schoolers. Congratulations I guess??

I'm hoping this is a good game. It would certainly make a huge splash for Crosby to bring one to the area.. especially off of the Aledo machine. However, I'm inclined to think Aledo gets another one. As much as I like Cinderella stories, you have a group of kids/coaches on one sideline that just seemingly doesn't know how to lose. Experience is huge in these situations. Having said that... give em hell, Crosby.
