Who will be the new Chief of PNG?/Jeff Joseph named lone finalist

I would just like to point out that PN-G packed the Dell Diamond for the state championship in baseball in 2017. Grapevine appeared visibly rattled by the size and rowdiness of the PN-G crowd. Attending that was one of my proudest moments as a PN-G Indian.5 points -

One could argue that failures in sports don't really have much to do with their being an asset to the area. hundreds of thousands of local kids have gotten an affordable education from a college respectable enough for them to get hired into jobs. that's Lamar's biggest asset to the area for me.2 points -

I guess TD’s comments in the PA News answers your question. I don’t have no reason for emotions to take part in anything I say. He will meet through Skype and email. I believe his comments say everything you need to know. Like I said before I’m sure he can help find some good coach’s. May be a good $20,000 spent. I just don’t understand why they didn’t get the guy they wanted from the get go. They let social media and angry people get in the way. They had a guy they wanted and should have done whatever it took to get him if they wanted him that bad. People were pissed when they let Burnett go and got BF. BF got here and brought excitement back and won pretty often. People eventually will get over BF being let go. I’m sure every board member and the Supt wants whats best for PNG. And I dam’n sure don’t think any of them would do anything to hurt PNG. People are on social media bad mouthing these people and wanting them booted out. Everyone don’t know the reason’s BF was let go. It seem’s like for the last several years I was hearing he was gone and it didn’t happen. I heard at the end of last season he was gone and he would be replaced and then seen the other guy was hired somewhere else. And the firing never took place. Hell I was upset when they didn’t hire Kyle Green and hired Coach Carter as the baseball coach. All Coach Carter did was win a State Championship and is a top notch guy. So I’m sure they will find the right guy again. Hiring TD as a consultant will certainly help them find the right guy.2 points -

Their qb Jakoby Banks will be back and they have a running back that's pretty good when Banks decides to hand him the ball. Their two big D1 receivers are gone but I wasn't real impressed with Banks passing numbers for the year anyway. He's committed to UH to play in the slot and does have elite track speed though. FB Marshall is a transfer destination for the HISD kids close them so who knows what type of athletes they'll acquire over the offseason? More than anything else, their defense will be a problem for district teams. BH was able to beat them up at the line of scrimmage last year, I don't think anybody in the district will be able to replicate that though. Not to mention James Williams is no slouch on their sideline. Pretty simple theory though; Win district and if you can figure out Liberty Hill's slot-T you're going to play for a title.2 points -

Coach’s reaction today when they find out Crosby is in their district: [Hidden Content]2 points -
No. My time table and raised bar is only for football. And there are two reasons. One more than the other. The lesser one: The community as a whole is not that much concerned about sports that are below football. When's the last time someone requested a "Freedom Of Information" concerning who has a applied for the volleyball coaching job at, say, WOS? Or the Golfing job at PNG? Or do towns "empty" to go and watch when a local school plays for State in tennis? You know, like they did back when PNG played for State in the 70's and set an attendance record at Texas Stadium. Probably not. Now, the main reason: When you have the taxpayer expenditures like you do in football, well that's a different set of responsibilities. The HC is getting paid big bucks. So, yes, the time frame and high expectations are there. Now let me say this: If a school was paying the tennis coach as much as the head football coach, then yes, the time frame and expectation would then extend there. As I've said before -- the more you make, much more is expected. Especially with taxpayer dollars!2 points

Dodge was 1-2 vs. PN-G. 1978 SOPH: 34-13 Indians at PAISD Memorial Stadium 1979 JR: 26-14 Indians at The Reservation 1980: SR: 14-13 Jackets at The Reservation Statistically, Dodge did not have good games vs. PN-G. He would have been 0-3 but for his defense bailing him out and stopping the Indians' 2-point try. The 1980 Jacket offense gets the hype because of Dodge, Duhon, and Bruce Miller, but the Jacket defense was no slouch. Don Holloway at LB. DLs Terrell, Wallace, Hancock, Kip Cooper, and I bet I am forgetting some. Good times...good memories.2 points

On the one hand I see this as a great CYA move by the Board. On the other hand, no doubt TD has inside scoop on many good Coaches in Texas. I hope it’s not just CYA, but that Dodge will pick a great Coach to return PNG to statewide prominence. Only time will tell.2 points -

Dodge announced his retirement to start in May. If he has put in his paperwork with TRS, then he cannot draw a salary from any school district in the state of Texas. He would have to "sit out" a year before he could draw a salary from a Texas school district. At least, that's how I understand it. He could have put off the retirement in order to be hired or his hiring is under an independent contractor. Not really sure how all this works for a coach or admin. My wife retired last May as a teacher and she could only work as an independent contractor for a Texas ISD and it had to be a job where a regular employee could not do. Otherwise that person would be considered an employee of the school district. She will have to sit out a year and then can hire back into a Texas ISD and be an employee and receive a salary and benefits. Not sure what Dodge will fall under.2 points -

Not a parent’s priority….which is fine but don’t complain later (years)when your kid is in hs and the team is averaging 20 something points a game. It has to start at the youth age and parents have to teach there kids proper mechanics and skills…..most parents don’t know these. also don’t tell your kid to get his….team will never win with that mentality2 points -

That’s part of the problem but not “the” problem. Newton has less enrollment and Kountze doesn’t have much more. Then you got schools like Orangefield who compete pretty well against schools with twice the enrollment on the regular. Nobody in the district is twice the size of Warren1 point

2022 Season
DLivingston reacted to hitman009 for a topic
hear is the realization and then I'll stop. College ball is not what it is cracked up to be. D1 and down.. Workouts at 530am, day filled with school, 2pm meetings, practice till 730pm, and mandatory tutorials. Its a 530am-9pm a day job. No time for socializing and and enjoying the College experience... a player really has to enjoy the process to be happy. Hence why so many return after the 1st year. Here is the real truth that parents need to hear from ALL coaches.. high school-select(and be wary of anyone who is requiring money for services and tells you different..): College is only allowed 11.7 scholarships to give out to a 35-50 man roster. Most colleges will bring in 70+ (12 catchers) in the fall and let some go by start of spring.. Its a cut throat business.. Most kids, if they get any kind of athletic scholarship, are lucky to get 20%-30%. Very, very seldom does a player receive a full ride. If you are a parent or player and are spending all this money for travel ball, lessons, and exposure as a investment for school... then really just save that money and put into savings or investments for College costs... you will come out way ahead.. and your kid will be happier enjoying the college experience. If you are doing these and spending the money to: help you kid's skills to help him become a better player and teammate, for the kids enjoyment, better understanding of the game, to help him learn life lessons, family fun.. really anything other than the expectation that your child will receive a college athletic scholarship.. then by all means do it.. I would also stress the importance of GRADES to your child.. grades, class rank, SAT are EXTREEMLY important.. academic scholarships along with grants for low socioeconomic are the deciding factors in recruitment. Sorry, all this talk about baseball college recruitment has got me fired up.. so many do not understand the reality and there are many who take advantage of that situation and it is upsetting.1 point -
