PNG has been in 5A (which was 4A until the addition of 6A) since 1988, besides a brief stint in 5A (the current 6A) in 1994 and 1995. Sounds confusing, but they’ve been primarily in the state’s second highest class since the late 80’s. Of course the UIL then added divisions of the classes more recently.

One transfer in but basically had their whole team back and most believed they were poised for a run this year. The addition of that transfer put them at another level. '6"5 guard from St. Pius that can really score.

Name another high school football team that's gotten a shoutout from the Governor AND the Speaker of the House over the last two months.

Two of United's biggest threat in the region is two teams that are in their district, #3 Summer Creek and #21 Atascocita. Other teams that BU will have to contend with in the region are #4 FB Elkins, #13 Pearland Dawson, #14 Katy Seven Lakes, #15 Cypress Creek and a good Dickinson team. I agree, had they stayed in 5A BU would have only two, maybe three teams in the region to contend with in order to get to San Antonio.

United was lights out with their free throw shooting last night. Keep shooting FTs like that will certainly help them in close games in the playoffs and district. Silsbee just needs to focus on getting better with each game from here on out.

They also beat 4A Carter by 4. Yes, Carter is #1 in 4A, but I think the #6 team in 6A should wipe the floor with them. United beat the #2 5A team by 7, and if this was 5A again this year, I'd give them a very good shot at returning to state. I just don't know about that with all of the quality 6A teams in their region that @AggiesAreWe mentioned above.

Funny how Georgia got out and voted for Kemp over Abrams and there was no fuss now they vote Warnock over walker and it's the moderates fault lol Kemp distanced himself away from all the negativety of election fraud and ran on a platform other than "they stole it" and won, walker ran on being an election denier etc and it cost him... Man that gym was packed last night. Standing room only on the Tigers side. Not a place to be if you're claustrophobic. Of course I wake up sick this morning, but it was worth it I guess. Tigers will be fine eventually. They looked rough last night. Some of that had to do with who they were playing The other half needs to start improving and getting better pronto. I didn't see Boulwen play either to go along with Williams or Harper. I think BU could have won 5A again this year. It's a shame they got moved up to 6A by only a few kids. They still got a chance, but 6A is a completely different beast. Watching their JV play it looks like they got a bunch of little point guards who can shoot the ball really well. Not sure if they got any good big kids on the rise or not yet.

Hello PNG fans , LH fan here .True Indian93 I hear you and I have thought the same thing many times . It still amazes me but this system Coach Vance brought here yrs ago has given the kids away to be competitive and they and the whole town bought into it . They run slot T from peewee league up through high school and now it's became LH's football identity . I think you got it right with they are quick .

Fellas, Silsbee was two games away from the title game and lost to a very very good Cuero team. That is a great success in 99.9% of the programs in the state. When you get to that level, the little things tend to rear their heads and cause teams to lose. Discipline, heart and experience usually tend to be the difference. Otherwise, we would never see a team like Liberty Hill continue to have the kind of success they have against clearly more athletic programs at this point in the year. Silsbee should celebrate the great year they had and work on fixing the small things that created the difference in the game. As far as experience goes, now they have that. Discipline can be created during the offseason, and heart must be brought by the players.

There are three marquee games tonight that I feel deserve to have their own game threads. Beaumont United at Silsbee Beaumont West Brook at Nederland Barbers Hill at Hamshire-Fannett I will post these game threads later this afternoon. Also, when district play begins, I (or hopefully someone else) will be posting individual game threads and/or game threads for a whole district. Right now, I am just lumping all non district and non tournament games into one thread.

With only one team left from SETX, Mustang nation is in full support mode. Jump ship... I cannot. I've sat on yalls side at marching contest. Just didn't feel right. If I could I'd be there Friday. Early enough to get good seat in the middle of that sea of purple.
