  1. PNG could become the Southeast Texas version of Katy. I see y’all going to state a lot more in the future. Administration did a good job hiring Coach Joseph.

  3. Ok SETX family Leaving for Dallas. I say thank you again from the bottom of my heart. I truly hope someday that each and every one of your communties get a chance to play for State. Teams like WOS, BWB, Nederland, Crosby, Dayton, Newton, San Augustine, Bridge City, and other communities that have made it to State have the chace to do it again. I make this promise if at all possible I will be there to support you. WOS please continue to lead the way. SILSBEE you are so close. Keep plugging away you will be there soon. Dayton our purple brothers and sisters its past time you returned back to the Dayton of old. Beaumont and Port Arthur you are both loaded and capable of making state. I look forward to the day it all clicks and you are there as proud communities. The one thing I have learned is it takes a lot to make it to the SC but one important factor our coaching staff has taught me is that you have to believe that you came make it to state. Another thing WOS has taught me is that to make it ti State you have to have a good defense. I wish, hope and pray that each and every SETX schools has this opportunity some day. Know that the support from our big community has been noticed by the PNG community. You all have been amazing. Thank you again. Lastly I would like to say thank you to the Nederland community. So much support from you shows the bond of playinh for 100 times. The really cool shirts you have made honors us. We welcome all of you to the game and appreciate all of your support. Win or lose we are so thankful for you all. Thanks Setxsports.com for your coverage and dedication to our kiddos in the coverage area. You are an amazing bunch. Lastly lets go Indians. Thank you all and God Bless.

  4. No. Great coaches don't change their scheme based on 1 player. You put that player in the right spot within the scheme in place...

  6. I will say I don’t think Glenn Rose was that great… that region in general was super weak IMO… I think Bellville, Jasper, Silsbee, Cuero, Gilmer, Carthage, PG, Wimberley, and maybe others all would’ve won that region. From a lot of things I’ve read I think several Gilmer fans are underestimating Bellville still… I’m still seeing “Bellville hasn’t played anyone” which is baffling lol either way I wanna wish good luck and safe travels to the Gilmer fans and team @lostaussie

  11. Go Indians!! This Bulldog made it to the last 3 games but I have a wedding tomorrow so gonna have to miss this one but hopefully I have time to watch online! We are on way to Dallas area as well and love seeing all the purple at Buccees and on the road! Win it all PNG!

  12. It's been posted because action need to be taken. No one is held accountable anymore for anything. I have told multiple koff people congrats on a great season and that they were the better team last night. Jones is a great player and led his team well. But wrong is wrong and was the ultimate sign of disrespect. I start one of these years ago when a riesel player did the same thing. And we won that game so it's not about winning or losing its bigger then that.

  15. Carthage also has the special talent many other schools don’t. Athletic talent. A great coaching job at HJ or Liberty would be the 3rd or 4th round. Reggie Samples, Claude Mathis, or Gary Joseph could come to Beaumont United and a great coaching job would be to get 2nd or 3rd in that district. Some people live in reality, others fantasy.

  16. If a young guy can't taking orders from a basketball coach he is not going to make it anywhere. Nobody will give you a job. The military won't take you. You can try and live dirty but they will unlike you very fast.

  18. That got a lil heated. The topic is OF job opening. They're not getting any elite coach no matter whose or whats definition one uses. They'll be doing good to get an assistant from a local program.

  19. Do you think Surratt’s are everywhere? You start gauging coaches off of what he’s done, and no one’s job will be safe. Do you think Deweyville, or Evadale is gonna compete with Mart and make it to state?

    A Tale of Two Cities

This is the most ridiculous statement I've ever read on this site. And that's saying something. Talent is a key ingredient for a successful football program. Having talent isn't important so much as being able to make the most of the talent you have. The best coaches are the ones who utilize their players' talent and abilities to their full potential. Coaches like Coach Todd and Coach Joseph are very good at developing the talent they have available to them. The proof is in the pudding; West Brook's talent level didn't magically evaporate when Coach Peevey left. There is no coach anywhere in the sport more capable of maximizing his players' potential than Nick Saban. If he were coaching at West Brook or United, Beaumont wouldn't have enough trophy cabinets to fit all the accolades he'd bring home.

  26. Back in the 90s when Vidor was 5A and playing North Shore, WB, Central, TJ, the Baytowns and getting our brains beat in week in and week out... all we needed was a new coach?!?!? Dang

  27. Buna just hired one in girls hoops who had a very poor record at his previous school. He wasn’t a popular hire for that reason, understandably. I contended he was a very good hire because I know the young man, his passion, his character, and his tremendous knowledge of the game. In his first year, I would say he’s done a very good job by virtually all accounts. And it will only get better as he and his girls grow. So sometimes, those Ws and Ls can be misleading. in point of fact, Nick Saban has a losing record in the nfl. What a hack 😉

  28. Agreed, no question. Basketball, for reasons stated earlier, is obviously the easiest of the major sports to find success quickly with the right coach. At any level.

  33. I can't emphasize enough the talent leap from 6A to 5A D1 to anything else below that..... It took PAM 8 years after being combined to be a constant fixture in what was 5A and that peak was 2011 semifinal appearance losing to Steele. After that we fell off until dropping to 5A which the game change to who dropped down with us while we still had our "big school" team speed. Now, its region and 1st round dependent on how PAM does since divisions were created. Of couse, with people having attention spans the length of gnats, they forget losing starting QB twice in what y'all refer to as 1 round woes. So, when they shuffle the dominoes in 2 month, we'll see PAM's chances to win the region on paper because there are high expectations for the next two years based on returning experience

  35. Unfortunately for your thoughts, no school is going to hire an 0-50 coach. More likely that would get you fired. Although this coach might be the nicest guy in the world.

  36. I’m glad we get some more clarification 😂 the more you write, the more you prove to readers on here how you are so out of touch. You don’t realize you’re the site laughing board, but there’s no teaching old dogs new tricks, and I was mistaken to think I could help educate you. Football is football, Texas or Louisiana or Ohio, Tapps or UIL, high school or college; helping kids and changing lives also can make someone elite, and each story and town are different. It’s wild you can’t understand that, and I’ve seen firsthand how people have tried to show you but you stay stubborn—add me to the list. From our brief interaction, at least I can say I can walk away learning one thing: Reagan is an idiot and you guys are right, it’s pretty comical. Keep doing you man. Enjoy life in your parents basement or whatever

  39. Who do u think is elite? Find one to prove your point. I've been there. Done the research. And realized for the most part it's proven sooner than later if the coach has what it takes. Of course there are always exceptions to the rules.

  45. I've noticed a similar change in the dynamic among the fans, too. Y'all know I went to Alabama. At Alabama, there's immense social pressure to never rush the field or go overboard in response to a win. The crowds will get very involved at key moments in the game, but after the win, it's three rounds of "Rammer Jammer" and then we exit the stadium in an efficient and orderly fashion. The general response an Alabama fan will give you if you ask about it is something along the lines of, we don't get overly excited about any one win because we always expect to win. Perfection, competing for a championship perennially and consistent, disciplined execution are the norm there. Whether it's an out-of-conference game or a national championship, winning is our business. We act like we've been there before because we have been there before, we're there now and we know we'll be back there again a bunch more in the future. It's nice to see that culture shift take hold at PN-G.

    A Tale of Two Cities

Why then, did PnG get obliterated in the 3rd round in 2021 (we could barely make a tackle), bring back most of the same key players, and go straight to state the next year? And then, with a new crop of guys, we go straight back? Conventional wisdom said the Mid County schools had no hope to recreate the success of the 70s. Look at us now. The main variable that changed was the coaching. PNG went from a team that couldn’t even sort of hang with the best, to a team that could beat the best. Coaching is the most important factor, most of the time. I refuse to believe that West Orange suddenly doesn’t have good players. What - was there a chemical leak in the hospital nursery exactly sixteen years ago? Did the gene pool change? What about Hampshire Fannet? They went from bottom-dwelling nobodies to a disciplined, smart, tough, athletic unit - They just happen to have good players now?

Talent > Coaching. There could be several reasons for WOS struggles but talent is the overwhelming greatest factor for ever.
