  2. Kountze’s depth along with the defense they play will cause 95 percent of teams serious problems. It’s the 5 percent that have elite guards where it falls apart because it leads to easy buckets on the other end. Then the question becomes how good is your half court defense? As often as not, it’s relatively weak due to reliance on the press. This is why relatively few teams do this at the next level and the ones that do, use it to eat shot clock vs causing turnovers Having said all that, Kountze could win every game by 20+ until they play a Hitchcock and then they could get beat by 20+ if they are unable to adjust. In terms of Orangefield, Scales is probably the best ball handler I’ve seen there in the almost 30 years I’ve been following (and only a sophomore). This will definitely be the most interesting matchup of the district imo

  4. Taso and UIL response Fitch explained, "TASO has a very rigorous Conflict of Interest (COI) Policy." "Simply living within a school's attendance zone in itself is not considered a conflict. Imagine if every official living in the DISD attendance zone was excluded from officiating any DISD game," Fitch wrote. "This would significantly dilute the pool of very qualified officials. After our inquiries, we have determined that the Line Judge has not violated any of the items in the TASO COI (Conflict of Interest) policy," Fitch noted. University Interscholastic League Athletic Director Ray Zepeda responded to Elizalde in a separate letter. "It would be impossible to preclude someone from officiating a game for a school simply because they live in that city or town," Zepeda said. "For example, officials that live in the city of Dallas called four out of the five rounds of SOC's playoff contests prior to the 2023 state championship game," Zepeda noted. "In conclusion, the game between Dallas South Oak Cliff and Port Neches-Groves was a very well played, well coached, competitive game that featured two very storied programs in Texas high school football," Zepeda said. 5. Mr. Babino was a great player, now a very good, proven defensive coodinator at a top level 6A program. Better yet he knows what it takes in all aspects of football & life to be a great influence\role model to students.

  7. This outlines how incredibly stupid the grievance was. DISD didn’t file grievances about the Dallas-resident referees that reffed 4 of their 5 playoff games on the way to state. But suddenly they get a ref that isn’t from Dallas and it’s the end of the world. And, it makes clear what a lot of us already assumed, which was that South Oak Cliff had all the information needed provided to them in advance. This was just a pitiful attempt to gripe about losing.

  8. it's also worth noting that since they started playing in 1956, Orangefield has NEVER seen the third round, as best as I can tell, although I may have missed one somewhere. From 1956 to 2012, OF made 12 playoff appearances. In the last 10 years they've made 9 playoff appearances. So yeah, the slot-T has been an overwhelming success for the bobcats.

  9. sometimes that's the ceiling, or close to it. You know how many local schools would absolutely love to trade their last ten years for orangefield's?

    WOS at Silsbee

The last game for both of these two teams was against Jasper. WOS won 100-39 and Silsbee won 108-52. First place in district is on the line in this matchup. Will Silsbee keep their district dominance? Will WOS be able to keep up with Silsbee’s constant pressure? Will Silsbee be 100% back? Will the weather affect this game? Will there be standing room only? Will the concession stand run out of nachos? These questions and more will be answered Friday night in the Tiger Den.

  20. She really should have had her facts straight before writing a formal letter. They got their info off of social media and went with it. I bet she was wishing she could get that letter back to do some editing, when she found the ref that made the PI call wasn't the same ref.

  22. unfortunately this site doesn't have the technology for me to bust out the crayons and draw you a picture so that you can understand what I'm saying. No, I'm not saying they are a bad team. You basically are, though. The point I'm making is that there are MANY, MANY local teams who ARE BAD who would have loved to field the teams and have the results that Orangefield has had over the last decade running the slot-t. Ironically enough, two of the local teams who would gladly trade places with Orangefield over the last decade both had success for a couple of seasons each WHILE RUNNING THE SLOT-T, only to fade back into nothing when they switched offenses.

  24. In short, proof is in the pudding that (Orangefield) historically operates the best out of the slot t... records show that.. for whatever reason that may be.

  27. Anyone who thinks Orangefield has the personnel to run the spread, and be successful is sadly mistaken. OF historically has been bad at running anything other than the Slot T. The Slot T helps when you don't have good lineman to protect a QB who is trying to read a defense to make a good throw. There are not many lineman bodies walking the halls of Orangefield so the Slot T is the way to go if you wanna continue to be successful in OF. You can't change my mind because OF saw instant success making the switch from the Pro I to the Slot T and they have been way more successful ever since then.

  30. You guys do realize that Coach Terrier will retire in the next year or two, and this new hire will most likely have the inside track to becoming the new AD once he retires?
    1 point
  31. He pulled off one of the best coaching jobs I have ever seen in his first year at Harmony. Watched film of them early in the season that year and thought there was no chance they could even be competitive during the season. I predicted 0-10, They ended up turning it around and making a SF appearance.

  33. I appreciate you sharing the numbers. Interesting stuff for sure. I can tell you in our blowouts, Scales and Wrinkle both set most of the 2nd half, and by most I mean at least a quarter in a half out each. Im not sure how Kountze runs it but Kountze is deeper and going to their bench probably isnt as much of a drop off as we see in OF. There have been several games where we could have gotten 100, but we back off the gas and let the bench have fun. Sometimes the numbers can be misleading though. Last year, we lost to EC by 16 and 18 (if I'm not mistaken), Kountze split with EC in very close games but none the less beat them once. Oddly enough, we beat Kountze pretty decisively both times we played them. I guess that is why it is called a sport, and on any given night, anything can happen.

  35. Totally agree, Coach Whitmire is great and we are glad to have him. Joubert's resume speaks for itself as well. I think Tuuesday will be a lot of fun as well!

  36. Coach Whitmire has had alot of success against Coach Joubert in the past 7-8 years. It’s going to be a lot of fun watching what these two have planned. Two talented teams, and two very good coaches. It should be a lot of fun.

    Nick Saban retiring

If Lanning is really out of the race (I'm still skeptical), I like the idea of a DeBoer hire, provided he finds a better defense than what he fields at Washington. There have been whispers of Glenn Schumann for the HC job. I find that prospect intriguing, but he's not my first choice. I think Schumann would make an outstanding DC under DeBoer. I would also be very comfortable with Scott Cochran in that role.

  43. SPE no special requirements. Pass the TC test and you can teach SPE. Other subjects such as math, history, chemistry, etc. you need to have so many accredited hours (basically a degree in that field/subject) and then pass the TC test for that subject.

  45. Could go either way. Many of them have revolving doors with AD/HC combined as well. I think it is a good transition for a potential HC candidate that is currently a coordinator. They get full control of the team without having to deal with the non football issues
