Ozen 38 Vidor 17 [/quote] I like your confidence, but I think this will be much closer than you think.  Vidor has a tough speedy secondary that have proven they can play.  This is a game that will come down to who can make the fewest turnovers and big penalties.  I don't know alot about Ozen other than they seem to have one heck of a QB, but its going to take more than one guy to beat Vidor.  We have a strong ground game on offense, we showed last night that we can throw the ball successfully.  Vidor 28 Ozen 21

But, alas, it is a another in the loss column. Hats off to Nederland front four and Linebackers. They did a great job. As far as Faircloth....well many questionable play calls. Like how many times will you try a shuttle pass to determine that the linebacker is all over it every time! This is going to be another big game for the Pirates.  Ozen seems to be the real deal this year. 

It wasn't a pretty win but a win is a win.  Lots to work on this week to get ready for Ozen, but we got the right coaching crew to get the boys ready...Way to go Pirates!

By the way, I've never felt like Vidor has a true rivalry but the Nederland and Central games are the ones I look forward to the most.

It has been very interesting to see such strong responses from Nederland.  The funny thing is the most recent version of this debate was started on another thread by a Nederland fan two weeks ago.  It has been great entertainment ever since. Coach Mathews has built a respectable program in Vidor, but I realize that to take it to the next level will involve beating the "Big 4" you mention.  As a lifelong Vidor fan, I can tell you that its nice to finally be at a place where we are putting a competitive team on the field that has a fighting chance against these teams.  I'm not sure how this game is going to turn out, but I think its going to be a great game and I hope Vidor comes out on top.  Good luck to both teams!

[/quote] This was a positive thread created to pay respect to a man who has done a lot for the community of Vidor and the entire athletic program here, not just football.  It was somehow hijacked by GoDogs27 who started a debate on whether Vidor/ Ned was a rivalry or not.  Real classy post by the way.  Anyway, back to point of the thread.  Jeff Mathews means a lot to this town and our kids, and I hope we have him around for a very long time.
