That 8th grade kid is something special. Next football star at Silsbee. Don't think he is ready for Friday night 7:30 ball just yet. Particularly at RB. As you stated, might see him late in the year.
-
Ready to be told by the resident Debby Downer of how many Astro players need to be released and that "if" they continue to play like this ONE game they will miss the playoffs.
-
Astros have claimed infielder Logan Davidson off waivers from the A's and have optioned him to AAA Sugar Land for the 40 man roster.
-
The Astros put pitcher Brandon Walter on the injured list with left elbow inflammation. They now have a major-league high 18 players on the IL Brandon Walter had a 3.35 ERA across 53.2 innings and nine starts for the Astros. He'd gone at least six innings and allowed two or fewer earned runs in six of those starts. A consequential loss.

Being that I am an Aggie, I have heard the light bulb joke many many times. It has always been 3. Never ever heard it told as 100. Carry on.

Call up pitcher Alexander gets the start tomorrow for Houston. Believe it will be Houston's 12th different starter this season. That's very above the norm.
-
The Astros will call up Jason Alexander to start tomorrow against the A’s. Nick Hernandez has been optioned.
-
102 games played for the Astros and that was the 96th different hitting lineup for Houston. Talk about piecing together a season.
-
Altuve and Smith are getting the day off today.
-
Houston has now won 13 straight Framber Valdez starts.
-
Ok, so I'll say you are due. But if they lose, your Daikin Park privileges are removed for the next 3 years. Good thing I don't bet on baseball.
-
I tend to agree.

Astros have placed Lance McCullers on 15 day IL with a right finger blister. Houston has recalled up RHP Nick Hernandez from Triple A Sugarland. McCullers was scheduled to start tomorrow's game at Arizona. This makes 17 players on the IL for Houston. Most in MLB.

Definitely for Silsbee. One could argue he is the best athlete in the district along with HF's Pirtle and Reed. Johnson will also be the man on the basketball court. Him moving to QB will help Silsbee tremendously. Had a really good 7 on 7 season.
-
For Silsbee or the district?
-
Johnson will move from WR to QB. It will give Silsbee a little more versatility at the position. Dual threat. Silsbee will need someone to take a step forward as RB. Got two or three that will play but needs one of them to be the "man" on a consistent basis. A couple got some experience last year. Need to improve on taking care of the ball. WR core will be just fine. Probably doesn't have a game breaker within the core, but solid group. As mentioned above, Silsbee's offensive strength will definitely be their O-line. Will be the best in the district and one of the best in the region.

The Houston Astros are bringing up IF/OF Shay Whitcomb and 1B Jon Singleton from Triple-A Sugar Land to join the team today in Seattle.

Another bad outing for McCullers. 2.2 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 3 BB He has the worst ERA (6.90), worst WHIP (1.74) and worst walks per 9 innings pitched (30 in 44.1 innings pitched) of all the Astro starters. 11 total starts and only 44 innings pitched. Currently, his salary is what is keeping him in the big leagues.
-
Walter with a good outing going 6 innings, one run on three hits, 7 K's. Astros with just one run on four hits. Lost 6-1. Lead is now down to 4

Joe Espada said the initial rotation list (Valdez on Sunday) was a typo and the plan was to give Valdez extra rest and have him pitch in Arizona.
-
Saw where the Astros made a pitching change to their rotation for this series. Originally it was Walter, McCullers and Valdez. Now it's Walter, McCullers and Brown. Valdez will not pitch till Arizona series. Must be an issue with Framber because he has had plenty of rest since last start (7/12). Will be over 8 days rest if he pitches the first game (Monday, 7/21) at Arizona.

Just depends on the position. Teams always carry more pitchers than field players. When Pena, Meyers, Alvarez, McCormick, Rodgers, Melton and Dezenso come back, you will see the Matthews, Hummel, Trammel, Corona, Whitcomb and maybe even Short sent down to the minors or even outright released. Pitching will be entirely on what the team needs at the moment. You currently have two starting pitchers on IL and four relievers. So who comes back and when will determine what moves on the pitching staff they will make. I believe the Astros have handled all these injuries (and lets not forget they lost two very good position players to trade and free agency) better than any team has in baseball. To be 5 games ahead in the division speaks loudly to all the other teams in the AL.
