  1. Venom, that was exactly what I was told on the sidelines last Friday night by a couple of WOS coaches. I asked why the different helmets and that was the answer I got. These were players that were JV last year, not necessarily this year. You were ON the sidelines talking to WOS coaches during a scrimmage and you are a DIE HARD Silsbee fan? Am I the only one that thinks something is wrong with this picture? LOL I was doing work for this site. But, contrary to what some think, I do have friends at WOS, including a few coaches. I made sure I kept my place there on the sidelines and didn't get in anyones way. At least I was on the Mustang sidelines instead of the Bronco sidelines. Oh, and I did donate $20 to the kitty for Mustang Athletics. Just ask Coach J. H.
  2. Short, if you are just factoring the last 10 years like you said in the beginning of your post, then I would say Newton has been the most powerful in football over these last 10 years. I don't think the question was how these teams would fair in head to head matchups, but how powerful and successful they are in their own sport and classification.

  4. According to this poster over at 3ADownlow, those weren't JV players on the defense. They were last year's JV players. Here's the post from 3Adownlow by member WOS1: I have to agree with you Matt. No one knows if they are a title contender at this point or not. All I know is they lost their 2 best players from last year, Green and Dugat. They do have a few guys back from last years defense and they look to be better there (which they needed to be). They have a nose guard who may be the best I've seen. He is a monster! It's exciting to do so well against a 4A team that went to the state title game last year, but it needs to be kept in perspective. We don't really know, yet, how good they are. However, it's much better and more impressive than doing that against a 2A team that didn't even make the playoffs last year. One more thing, 87, I think you are getting a few to many updates from the "homer of all homers"... LOL . Dayton scored against our, potential, number 1 defense. I'm sure you were told by Mr homer that they were JV because of the white hats. That only means that they are underclassmen who have not yet earned their Silver, but that will be your defense (with a little tweaking). The bright spot is that they got better every series and did show some good potential. Dayton will be a good team no matter what and though they may not be a state contender, they are definitely a district title contender in 4A and a lock for the playoffs. This was also explained to me by a couple of WOS coaches to be the case. They were players that will be on varsity but haven't earned the silver yet.
  5. You can't be any further east than Orange, Texas. As for north, Silsbee's plenty north enough.
  6. Well this person's job is not a voted position, it's a hired one.
  7. Kirbyville's defense looked very good, particularly since they had so many starters from last year graduate. Their offense will be good with Ford and Rhodes in the backfield. QB still needs some seasoning. Silsbee did not look bad, but they are still needing some work on the offensive line. With the skill players that Silsbee has, their offense will be exciting. Silsbee's defense IMO played very well except for 2 plays. Kirbyville's Ford ran a 65 yarder for a TD on their very first play, but after that, the Tigers played very well, only giving up around 50 yards of offense the next 22 plays up until the last play of the scrimmage. That's when Kirbyville threw the "hail mary" type pass on the last play and scored. It was a 45 yard pass play. I look for both these teams to play very well in the next scrimmage for each team.
  8. People are leaving the school district. This is just as much a reflection from last year as is this year. Sign of times to come. Several of the LaMarque athletes have moved to Hitchcock and other surrounding schools. Would not be suprised to see LaMarque go 3A, not this realignment, but the next in 4 years.
  9. LaMarque is not the LaMarque of old and it doesn't look as though they will ever be back. Many things going south over there and this info came from a prominent LaMarque backer.
  10. That's some great ideas, liltex, but let me clue you in on something. Folks from the Lumberton community can raise as much money as possible, but they will not have a say on how it is spent. A few years ago some folks in Lumberton had raised money to buy a new scoreboard for Lumberton. When they approched the school administration about it they were told that they could donate the money but the administration(actually one guy, we know who he is) would see fit on how that money was spent. It would not have gone to a scoreboard, to say the least. Needless to say, the money was never donated.
  11. According to this, it's Friday night: [Hidden Content]
  12. I thought this was a Friday night scrimmage?
  13. The quarterback. I had to do it, admin. ;D
  14. What's not to like about a military school? ;D
  15. I totally agree with this assessment. Good post Bleed.
  16. I didn't see that, there were a few where the Dayton DB's weren't even close. We just straight up dropped the ball. I didn't think the Dayton pass coverage was all that good... no offense... I thought the Dayton front was awesome. You hit it on the head, Gas. Dayton's front 4 were really good but the secondary wasn't all that good. WOS dropped several wide open passes.
  17. A sub 9.6 100! WOW!! Can we expect a sub 19.0 200 in the near future?
  18. The new page looks good. To bad I cannot say the same about the broadcaster on the right on that pic. J/K ;D ;D ;) Oh Soulja, that hurts. The reason that hurts is because the only other person you can compare me to in that pic is Gabe!! I am devastated.
  19. A couple of good looking pics on that homepage, particularly one of them. ;D
  20. This is an old message but I had to say something here... The Memorial Head Coach will not be defined by his first game!!! No head coach is. Lets give him a body of work of about two years before we judgew what kind of coach he will be. Totally agree with that one Short. Tell that to SFA85. ;D
  21. I agree Gun. The Mustang recievers has to improve on their ball catching skills. QB Garrett is getting it to them, but he can't catch it for them. Speed is great, but it does you no good if you cannot catch the ball.
  22. I agree. Just basing solely on what I saw at Kirbyville's and Diboll's scrimmages Saturday, I believe Kirbyville will have the better team. A lot of things can happen before then, teams can better or get worse. But right now I would have to give Kirbyville the edge. Hey Aggies, how did Diboll look in their scrimmage? I know they're young this year with only two returning starters. Just like K,ville they'll have a new qb leading the team, but from what I hear their sophomore Rb is the real deal. It seems Diboll and K,ville are both in a rebuild season, so that opening game should answer alot of questions for both programs. First of all, the playing condition of the field that Diboll and HJ scrimmaged on was not very good. It is a new practice field for HJ with the sod just being laid a week ago and it showed. It was very slippery and it was difficult for both team to move the ball down field. Diboll looked okay. They do have two good looking players in the QB and RB. They also have two huge offensive tackles but I was not impressed with their blocking abilities. The Diboll QB had to do a lot of roll outs to complete any passes. The HJ defense is very salty. Diboll looks okay on the defensive side, has good size with some speed. This was just the first scrimmage and with the playing conditions, maybe it is not fair to assess either team in that scrimmage. I still say Kirbyville takes that opener and I don't see Diboll making the playoffs.
