These 2 teams are a lot closer than folks realize.EC is nowhere near where they have been the past 4 or 5 years and Buna is actually quite a bit better than they have been.Both clubs have 2 pretty decent big men and neither has real good guards so this will look like they are playing in a mirror.EC has a little better club but Buna has the home court advantage.Gotta go with the Bucs by 6. The situation with the officials is just plain numbers.When the scheduler starts making the calls there just isn't enough bodies to give everyone 2 top notch officials.The only way to level the playing field for the girls and guys is to let both varsity teams play at the same location,limit your JV to guys OR girls,not both.You would have to start your games 4:30-6:00 and 7:30 and it would hurt your JV programs but it would solve a couple of issues.It would also make your officials call 3 games which is tough.As far as the quality of the officials go it has a lot to do with the quality of the teams.The good teams whether it be boys or girls are easy to call.The bad ones are tough to call.Anyone who has ever complained about officiating needs to call 2 bad teams.You will have a different perspective when you get back in the dressing room.

That's not frustration, it's YOUTH.The Pirates are very young and playing an OT game on the road.They will be OK.This district is gonna be to close to call if HD's big guy is hurt.

Hardin is starting to play a little better ball.This puts Deweyville back in the hunt.I think they will go in as the 3rd playoff team out of this district if they keep winning on their home floor.Score looks like this was a pretty competetive game.Congrats to the Pirates and keep your chin up Hardin,this season will make next year alot sweeter.

Sounds like the SeaHawks let one get away here.They gotta play smarter ball from here on out or the conference schedule is gonna be tough.

I heard the used actual peach baskets back then AND had a big net draped around the court...... ;D She would drape anything she could find around the court to keep from chasing the ball and we couldn't afford peach baskets ;D ;D

I don't mind the officials letting em bang.The calls I was referring to were traveling(no calls) and phantom possession calls.One right in front of the LU bench in the 2nd half and the other on the LU base line in the 2nd half. Both stopped play and gave the ball back to the team in possession which was LU but killed a scoring drive both times.

I've been watching LU since the early 70's and I would hand the ball to Alvin Brooks if I were looking for a PG.Mike Oliver was the best pure shooter I 've seen wear Cardinal red.If I'm not mistaken I think he was a pretty high draft pick in the NBA.Nos mentioned Terry Long who was probably one of the most underated guys at LU.He was a 6th man early in his playing days and could take a game over off the bench.

Whew !!! bees85 there are some straight up players on your list.I gotta agree with Kountzer about Anthony Manning and James Brannon from Kountze,they could flat out play.They also had a kid named Shaw,I think his first name was Wesley who could fill it up.These were all old school players.

For the first time in years you may want to broadcast the girls game in this match up.I think Kountze (guys)will win this one big.That being said EC will have the toughest district foes out of the way after tomorrow and will have a great shot at the 3rd playoff spot.

I'm probably biased but the best I ever saw was Coach Sims at HJ and I saw her ALOT.She averaged over 32 pts a game in a 4 year high school career and is currently 2nd on the all time scorers list at LU.Had there been a 3-pt line back in the day I don't think anyone would even be close.Girl could pull up from 20 ft and shoot the prettiest jumper you ever looked at.There wasn't a womens pro league at that time or she would have had a different proffession.

I 've seen them both play also and I have to go with Kountze.EC is by far the most improved team I've seen this year and should easily take the second spot.Both these clubs could win a couple of playoff games and even make it to the regional tournament if the bracket falls out right.

I hope the crowds pick up.This type team feeds off the crowd and can turn it up a notch with the long ball when they get pumped.Was it just me tonight or was the officiating as bad as it looked?It didn't favor anyone just looked like a really weak crew to me.

The 3-3 record the last half of the season didn't have much to do with Villamez.Hardin lost to Kountze at Kountze,to an EC team that was starting to peak and to a Warren club that they had beaten by 3 at Hardin.I think the loses were all on the road.Why isn't he playing this season?

I gotta agree with CATMAN.New Waverly was barely out of football when they beat Kountze earlier this year.Kountze has always beat people with their press.This year they are pretty small and the athletic clubs (NW and Newton) won't turn the ball over against them.They aren't real strong in the half court game and I think they will meet up with NW before the regional tournament.No disrespect intended to Buna but if they make the playoffs the UIL needs to change the format.

I expected Buna to win a couple of district games this year but I didn't see this one coming.This may seriously cripple Deweyvilles chances at the 3rd playoff spot.EC may be the frontrunner now for that last spot.

How can you put a list from Kelly together and not put J Covan Brown on it.Like him or not he was the best player to ever play for the Bulldogs ;)

I think they are the favorite out of this region this year.They have a ton of atheletes and are well coached.That's a dangerous combination.

Kountze will get EC's very best effort.Unfortunately for the Bucs that will just keep it respectable.EC will slow it down some and try to let their inside game keep em close.Kountze wins by 15. Kountze-70 EC-55

Now there's a surprise. ;D ;D Just kidding I know you Kountze guys are going to stick together.Dawg,I know you have seen enough of the GREAT Kountze teams to know this one is good but are a long way from being great.I stll think Anahuac will win the the district in a playoff game at the Montagne.Kountze held serve last night just like I thought they would.Anahuac will win at home at set up a seeding game.The rest of this district is just plain crazy.I never dreamed D-Ville would get beat at Buna,fact is any of the remaining 5 teams could beat each other.I still don't see a threat in the district this year to New Waverly or Newton.

They may have a shot at beating Buna at Hardin,after the close loss to Warren last night I don't think they have many more chances to win one.Villimez didn't help them much last year but why isn't he playing this year.If he isn't hurt I can't imagine a coach letting him take a year off and then come back when his buddy gets well.Also anyone that thinks Davis isn't a player has either never seen him play or doesn't know much about the game.He would probably average 20 this year but with his supporting cast they still would be in trouble.The 3-7 teams in this distrct this year are pretty even but not very good :(

There were some very good teams in this tourney last year.Logansport,Brookeland,Warren and Spurger played in the trophy games last year and both were good games.I would have liked to see Logansport again,they had a good club with lots of depth,not sure what size school they were but they suited about 15 players that could all go.
