Bridge City (28) @ Lumberton (7) - FINAL
bullets13 replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
I haven’t seen anyone on here that hasn’t acknowledged the improvement. Y’all should be proud of your boys. These guys showing up out of nowhere demanding respect, claiming jealousy, or asking for relevance are what have been getting me going on here. It reminds me of the old L-train posters when they finally had a decent season way back when. Certain posters seem to think that everyone should be as excited and impressed as they are. I have no reason to root for or against BC. I don’t care one way or another if they go 10-0 or lose their last 6 games. They weren’t a threat to my team when we were in the same district, and they certainly aren’t now. I just get tired of some of the goofy posts. -

I literally care nothing about bridge city sports. My only issue with yalls success is the posters coming out of the woodworks trying to make what they’ve done into something it’s not. And “fled” is a perfect description of what happened. -

What are you even talking about? I edited one of your posts TODAY that probably should’ve gotten you a suspension and I didn’t even give you a warning. -

did you miss the part where I was quoting a BC fan who said “ I would love to see them compete against Silsbee, WOS, Jasper, and HF. They would have a shot in any of those games.” if a BC fan is making a claim that BC would compete with the top 4 of the district they fled from this year, everything I said was a “valid argument”, as well as relevant. -

And Jasper is far from certain. They’re down some, but they beat lumberton by basically the same as BC, and had a couple of brutal matchups scheduled this year. Blew the BU game, but could’ve easily scheduled a couple of cupcakes instead CH and Carthage and have a nice 4-1 record right now. Won’t find many 4A schools with a tougher schedule in the state this year. -

BC might not get blown out by all of those teams like last year, but Jasper is the only team they’d have a realistic shot against out of those four this year, and they look worse than they are because they somehow ended up scheduling 2 of the best teams in the state. I’m confident Jasper would be 4-0 with similar results had they worked their way through district 10-3A in their warmup games. Silsbee isn’t that down from their team that beat y’all by 4 scores last year, and WOS appears to have improved significantly from the team that beat y’all by 14. Jasper and HF beat y’all by 35 and 49, respectively. Yes, y’all are better this year. But (Some) BC fans are on here getting worked up about “sarcasm” and a “lack of respect”. the reason y’all are getting it because there’s a healthy number of y’all that think that a 4-0 record against a mediocre 3A schedule and an 0-4 Lumberton team that has fallen off the face of the earth means y’all would be competing in 9-4A. y’all opted up for a reason, and it wasn’t to play against a higher level of competition. If y’all had stayed put, there would be 3-4 reality checks coming down the pipe. So absolutely enjoy the season and the success y’all will have, but try not to let it go to your heads. -
No, but HF looked a lot better against them, or at least against their defense. That said, Silsbee had several key pieces out. If they’re healthy by the time they play HF, I expect a close game. I THINK HF is the better team, but not by so much that a win is a foregone conclusion.

You come at me with this and then do it yourself a post later 🤦🏻♂️ that was the point I would make, though 😉

Sure hope so. There’s stupid and then there’s senseless. This was both.

I figure I can suck all year and as long as some people forget to submit once in a while I'll climb up to a respectable position -

From what I know, the driver is a good guy. but even if the other guy wasn't paying attention, it's still the boat driver's responsibility to keep him safe. I'm hoping that the injured man makes a full recovery so that the impact on both families here will be reduced.

17 1/2 years for me. been a long time. Sometimes I wonder what happened to some of the guys as active as us that just quit showing up one day and never came back.
-
had someone get killed when their boat hit the same bridge back in may. it's a dangerous spot. this bridge is about 2 miles from my house, and I cross it all the time. I was pretty shocked with the media coverage. They had about 5x as much information on it as usual, which i appreciated since it was local.

the thing is this: it's not a great district. In fact, it's a bad district. Lumberton, who's been the "really good" team of the district the past couple of years has exactly 3 playoff wins in 3 years, and now they're way down even from that level. having said this, there's absolutely nothing wrong with fans of a team that hasn't had a great deal of success in the recent past being proud of their team winning a bad district, or even just doing pretty good in that district. If BC has improved enough to beat Vidor, Huffman, Lumberton, LCM, etc., and can finish in the top 3 of the district, they have a lot to be happy about. I'm just having a hard time with the BC fans who have the "we're being disrespected and overlooked" mindset when they haven't even beaten a 4A school yet this year.
-
9-4A teams (the district y'all ran from) scheduled teams like Hitchcock (twice), Carthage, Nederland (twice), Newton, La Vega, Episcopal, Chapel Hill, various 5A schools, etc., and you think it's funny nobody is impressed with y'all's schedule? Most of 9-4A's easiest pre-district games are against last year's playoff teams from your new district. Lumberton and LCM are "tested". They made a real schedule to prepare for district. It is what it is. Enjoy the easy schedule and improved team and quit trying to make it something it isn't, or make y'all out to be something y'all aren't (disrespected).
-
they've taken a big step back to what they were a couple of years ago, and are in the right district to have a good shot at making the playoffs, maybe even make a run at a DC or top-2 finish.
-
that team isn't on their schedule. LCM is as close as it gets, and they've already shown they'd be no better than 4th or 5th in the district you guys opted out of.
-
they've played a 3A pre-district schedule and are in one of the weakest districts in the state. The 3A schools they've beaten are mostly down from last year, and they aren't exactly playing Hitchcock or Columbus. What kind of credibility are you looking for? I think plenty of people are giving Bridge City CREDIT for showing a lot of improvement, but nobody is gonna start acting like they're one of the best teams in the area if they beat a depleted, winless Lumberton team to start 4-0 and give them the credibility that you're looking for. So having said all of that, it's important that BC fans sit back and enjoy what should be one of the best seasons y'all have had in quite awhile, without trying to demand that everyone pretend that what you're doing is a big deal. BC was smart to opt up, and it should lead to them doing better in district this year, but they would've finished no better than 5th if they'd stayed put, so you guys are gonna have to pump the brakes on wanting a bunch of credibility or being considered "tested" or whatever it is you're looking for.
-
Lumberton is 0-3, and lost most of their main pieces from last year. So no, they will not be considered tested after this game. But as VPfan said, it will give us a decent idea of what to expect from them in district this year.
