They had one heck of a season! That’s a tough one to go out on, but they gave one of the best teams of the state all they wanted and more. 20-6 and a trip to the regional tourney is quite an accomplishment for a 2nd year program that went 2-19-1 last year.

Dez has his shortcomings, but if he ends up with a good qb somewhere he’ll be good again. Dak killed his career in Dallas. For Dez to be Dez he needs a qb that can be at least semi-accurate farther than 12 yds down the field

Huffman wins! 3-3 (5-3 SO)

3-3, going to a shootout. I’m glad I stopped. I got a whole game’s worth of highlights in 45 minutes of game time

Bob Hope scores with 4:46 left in OT2. 3-3 2 goals in 80 minutes of regulation, 4 goals in 15 minutes of OT

Whoa. The Bob Hope goalie just tried to roll a ball out to a defender who was right next to him. But the keeper was 10 yds off his line, and the guy he rolled it to had a HH player next to him, who intercepted and rolled it home to put Huffman up 3-2 with :34 left in the first OT. I’ve played soccer 30 years and can’t figure out a better way to explain that play. 3-2 HH going to the second OT

A minute later Huffman scores on a free kick from 50 out (yes, 50). Great ball sent in that a couple of guys missed but somehow found it’s way into the corner. There’s a strong wind blowing that way. 2-2 with 2 min left in the first OT.

Bob Hope scores 3 minutes into OT to go up 2-1

Bob Hope got an amazing look with about 5 seconds left but skied it over. 1-1 going to OT.

Got out of my meeting early and had to pass the stadium to go home. Stopped in to catch the last 30 minutes. It’s 1-1 with 20 minutes left. The crowd is awesome!

I was hoping this would be later. No way for me to make it in time.

Coach McDermand is a buddy of mine. He’s done an incredible job over at Huffman. He started a new program there last year, and they went 2-19-1. In his second year he’s got them at 19-5, and at least three rounds deep into the playoffs. I don’t know what criteria they use to decide these things, but I’d argue that he has a very strong case for state 4A coach of the year.

They took their time starting the 2nd game, and now we’re in a lightning delay. Tied 12 minutes into the game, each team has had a good chance. I’m going home.

Jasper up 3-0 at the half. They’ve hit the post a couple of times as well. They’re very impressive for a 4a girls side, especially considering the size of their town. Their turns and first touch are really good, and they’re basically just wall passing up the field around Huffman.
