Once again another Silsbee fan picking HJ to lose!!! HJ has proven that if they do not show up to play they can be defeated. This game is not for another two weeks and after the Xmas break. I hope that is when HJ turns their game faces on and prepares for district. i predict HJ will go back in time and lose the games they've already won, making them 0-17. that's how bad they are this year. ;D

after hearing the arguments, this is my opinion... lamar should come first when it comes to their facilities, but if they're going to choose to host tournaments not involving lamar sports (and i assume make a decent amount of money while doing so), then they should be willing to host the tournament responsibly and fairly, which means giving teams a chance to celebrate a win before they're booted out, allowing time for a medals ceremony, etc. etc. Now i don't know anything about a possible date change by the YMBL, but if that's the case, then i can't place much blame on Lamar in this situation. Obviously next year they need to coincide the tournament with an away weekend for both lamar teams, or if not, the YMBL needs to find another place to play.

i was considering going pro on the hardhead circuit for awhile, but after almost losing an eye and three fingers in a nasty finning accident, i decided to give up on my dream.

Southeast Texas has had some deep runs in the football playoffs this year, so some of your basketball fans may not have switched gears. also, it seems like the basketball boards pick up after district play starts. these games don't mean much right now, but once we get a couple of close district races i'd be willing to bet we have more traffic and MUCH more debating on here.

You are right... running it up is bad..... running your offense and defense is not though.... offense can have limits..(passes, time, etc.......) absolutely... and if you MUST work on the press, even with a big lead, there's nothing to say that a team can't pull the ball back out after a steal and run their regular offense rather than making layup after layup.

i SAW a monster 10-point while driving back from East Texas just past San Augustine this past weekend. It's a shame that those pesky game wardens frown on shooting deer with handguns from moving cars...

I never stated that HJ was better than Silsbee. At this point in time I believe that Silsbee is better and I would be willing to say that yall are a stateworthy team. i agree. that being said, both teams' results against Central are pretty irrelevant, and will be even more so when district starts. i'm looking forward to seeing these two teams face off head to head.

different situations dictate different actions. up 20 against a great team capable of scoring bunches of points in a short time, keep the press on. up 20 against a weak team in a low-scoring game, take it off. if you're going to give your bench players some time, i'd say it's okay to keep the press on, but at some point the game is out of reach and it becomes a matter of showing a little class and calling off the dogs. there may not be anything in the rule book about being sensitive to the other team's feelings, but at the HS level, where kids are playing for the love of the game, it's important that we don't take the joy out of the game for teams who may not be as good as our own. at this level a win is a win, and running up the score and demoralizing your opponents serves no purpose.

HJ was ranked too high going into this season, and everyone from this area knows that. you have a lot of people who aren't really familiar with HJ's situation when making these rankings, and they're basing them on the fact that HJ won a state championship two years ago, and followed it up with another very strong season last year. Those same people don't know the details of HJ's wins this year, they just see a very good 13-3 record, which is why the Hawks are still so high in the polls, even though some of their results don't seem impressive to those of us from SETX. Silsbee should be higher than them at this point (Silsbee should be top-3 IMO), but those rankings are meaningless anyway. The hawks this year are very young, and they've lost some very important players, so they're going to have some hiccups along the road. It's very encouraging to me that the Hawks have rebuilt well enough to have a very nice record right now, despite the players they've lost. That being said, IMO Silsbee is the clear frontrunner in this district. They've got a ton of talent back from last year's fantastic team, and there's no doubt that they go in as the favorites against HJ, both home and away. If Silsbee gets a good run together, I honestly believe they have a very realistic shot at a state championship. BUT... HJ has some fantastic players who can take over a game, and if Silsbee comes into either game against the Hawks and overestimates them, they're liable to walk out with a loss. Teams improve throughout a season, but I think the improvement we'll see with the Hawks will be more noticeable than many of the other teams in the district as all of these young players gain more experience at the varsity level under an amazing coaching staff. Silsbee might be the best team in the district, but don't be surprised if we have another rematch deep in the playoffs for a trip to state. I'm not saying it will happen, but it's not a stretch to say it might.

There's been some talk about having a setxsports meet and greet, but what do you guys think about a fishing tournament? i think it would be pretty cool. we could either make it a saltwater tourney, or go up around the lakes area and have a bass tourney. a modest entry fee would cover any costs incurred to put it on.

I Think you guys are pretty hypocritical when your hecklers(although very entertaining) can't even spell the word class either on the threads or certainly in the stands. The problem this year is imma and granny23 although loud are accurrate...as indicated by deafening silence from everyone but a couple of you and you aren't even defending your team your just dogging imma and granny23 i had a talk on here with a couple of hecklers last year. i've got no problem with people thinking or saying that silsbee is the best team in the district this year, as i agree. it's just a matter of the tone of the posts. there are ways of saying that the tigers are better that don't include insults.

yeah, in the past there've been a couple of posters from HJ who were pretty bad, but Silsbee's had their share as well. It seems to me the only thing that the HJ team has done to disrespect your team over the past few seasons was beat them. It's hard to hold that against somebody, but i understand that it's tough for you to let it go. As for you trying to justify making classless posts full of arrogance and insults, why bother? Quit making excuses for your behavior and take responsibility for it.

i don't really understand all of this... it seems like a huge overreaction for what was a pretty minor comment. i realize he'd had some issues before, but it seems like players of all sports make comments worse than this on a pretty regular basis with little or no punishment at all.

any time anybody pays a compliment to a team that isn't silsbee, you tell them to "get off their knees". yeah, you're a model of class and respect.

no way to tell until things get started... when i played there we had four different coaches in four years, and it seems like there have been a bunch of different coaches since then. until HJ gets a coach with a soccer background who sticks with the program long enough to build it up they'll likely continue to struggle.

get off your pedestal well i like the view... its must be pretty good for you too, you know... being in Silsbees shadow and all it's certainly a change of scenery
