Van Wade with the Orange Leader had Baltrip with 12 boards as well. A lot of balance in those numbers. I don’t think this is a bad effort from the Cats though and as DJ says above, they have a great shot at making the playoffs.

He can be limited in scoring. If you have an elite on-ball defender, he will struggle to score the ball just with his size limitations and athleticism (or lack thereof). We played him once this summer and he was held scoreless. But he’s one of those kids that does all the little things that he will hurt you even when he’s not scoring.

That’s the problem with playing Silsbee. Even without the supremely skilled, seasoned players they’ve had the past several years, they still will athlete you to death. And with the numbers Sig throws at you, it’s hard not to eventually just get worn down.

Lumberton 62 Little Cypress-Mauriceville 46/FINAL
TxHoops replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I don’t know about that but I stand by my earlier prediction that LCM has a better chance of missing the playoffs than winning the district. I do think Lumberton can challenge Silsbee based on McClure and coaching. Silsbee is still the favorite. -

McClure is on a different level. The Co-Offensive MVPs last year was like giving Larry Bird and Jerry Sichting Co-MVPs... -

Kasen might already be the best player on the team team. He is next level distributing the rock and is an ELITE on ball defender.

I’m guessing half time wasn’t very pleasant for those Longhorns 😂 -
My wife never buys that one 😂

Mine is. I remember folks laughing and laughing last year. “Get back to me when they beat Silsbee or HJ” they said. I did. In year one. Oh and they also beat 30-2 Huffman to bounce them on their ear out of the playoffs. All with their best player on JV. One of these days I will be wrong on a HS basketball prediction. I mean I assume. Has to happen eventually. But I could be wrong. Livingston appears better than we gave them credit for. Huffman could finish 4th.

I think 20 points may be defined as a close game relatively speaking with this United team. When you have the #2 ranked kid in the Greater Houston area 2022 class in Arceneaux (who was #1 until Griggs moved back) and the #1 ranked kid in the 2023 class, and they aren’t the only D1 kids on the team, the talent level is through the roof. And they play well together. I’m not sure the last time our area had 2 or more high major kids on the same team. -

We’ll see if he lasts. He’s approaching he last-rodeo status and I’m not talking about age. -
That Gary guy can apparently play.

Silsbee 63 Beaumont United 109/FINAL
TxHoops replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Hmmm the “defensive effort” argument could be made in other spots in this thread. Sometimes when you carry the water, you pick your spots. You undersell him defensively. If you know Tic, you know you don’t play for him without performing on that end. I know Josh gets on him on the defensive end. I also know Joe has gotten on some of his “stars” on the defensive end. Brock rebounds the ball way above the mean on the defensive boards and has above average feet. His defense is fine. But if you are looking to nitpick his game, you’re right; that’s the spot. Same goes for Mr. Bush. -

Not arguing that. (See comment above.) But I also remember some comments last year after that statement questioning its accuracy. Needless to say, I couldn’t have been less surprised he was the only other kid in the district to end the year D1. -

This is very true. McClure last year was clearly the next best prospect in the district behind Bush, at least in my opinion (and I guess Tic Price’s). But there was also a next best to Secretariat each time he raced as well... As you stated, Bush’s (and Secretariat’s) don’t come around very often. -

I remember last year I said McClure was the best player in the district not named Bush. I remember that drawing some comments and skepticism. Can someone remind me how many players in that district ended last year with D1 offers/signings and which conference they were signed to? I can’t remember. -
Aldine Nimitz 68, Livingston 46
TxHoops replied to Lions Pride 2021's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Yessir. Took them to the playoffs back when only 2 got in. Think he left for Barber’s Hill maybe and then Nimitz later. Been at Nimitz a while now. His son Tyler played at Nederland with Weisbrod and could shoot the piss out of the ball. Great guy too.
