Idk. My issue with Yates is the system they run plays to Silsbee’s strengths (I.e., guard play). The press is extremely vulnerable on the back end and Silsbee wot be forced to even shoot it well if they attack the basket like they should. On the offensive end, I’ve never figured out what Yates is trying to accomplish other than jack the first open shot they see. But silsbee has also not made the best decisions on offense a lot this year. Having said that, if Yates does shoot it well, they could beat the Tigers. But to imply Yates is a clear favorite is a bit optimistic and biased on your part imo. To me, this is a game that could go either way but gun to my head I would absolutely take Silsbee. But there is a lot of basketball to be played between now and then and I don’t think either team should plan on coasting to the regional finals.

[Hidden Content] Kevin has shown that a one and done can still have a meaningful relationship with his school. Came back every offseason until he earned his degree. A true credit to our university. I expect Mo to do the same.

Memorial is better than Atascocita imo. Westbrook might be. Agree on the other 3 you mentioned though.

Talent-wise, I would say they are definitely a sweet 16 type of team. Once you are in that group, depends how you play that weekend whether you are a Final Four team. But to be either, there a few kids who need to get their priorities and focus in order and “buy in” quickly. Otherwise, they may end up being a bubble team with Final Four talent.

Kind of, but I get what he’s saying. In basketball speak, a dog is a kid who will do whatever it takes to win. Rebound, defense, loose balls, etc. Some would say a dog is a dog because he’s “hungry” (and not satisfied). You could fairly characterize most, if not all of last year’s seniors listed as dogs. Every championship teams needs some dogs. So while you can argue that the most talented Tigers from last year’s team returned, they need some of them to start playing like dogs.

And to be clear, I agree that there is nothing like playing for your school and hometown. I’ve heard AAW speak many times about playing for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back and I completely agree. I don’t know what it’s like to win a HS state championship as most of us don’t. But I’m sure there’s nothing the summers can offer than can compare with what Silsbee and WOS experienced last year and Newton this year. But I think too often we do brush aside what we think we know but really don’t. I can offer examples of BlkMamba, bradyb (who I know worked with Hefner in summer’s past), and winwin as 3 guys in this area (and on this board) who donate their time each summer to work with kids and most certainly are teaching them how to play as a team (in addition to fundamentals, etc.). And I can name a few schools in this area who have definitely benefited in the fall/winter from their efforts.

I agree. Good post. I agree with Colin most of the time in CFB. And he constantly says that Bama is the gold standard and the rest of the SEC is largely overrated. Top heavy conference with a bunch of mediocrity. Couldn’t agree more. Thanks for sharing!

Not only a ton of talent but some outstanding leaders in that group as well. Intangibles are hard to measure but are often greatly missed. Very good post though and I agree completely. If the focus and effort is there, no reason Silsbee can’t get back to the mountain top. It’s just going to “look different” but that is always going to be the case with different teams.

Stereotyping is always dangerous. Like most things, depends on which program. MANY would obviously surprise you. I can say that I CAN’T say where he developed and learned those qualities because he certainly already had them when I first saw him about a year or so ago. I’m sure it starts at home because his parents are incredible people. I’m sure it was developed in the Nederland school system because that’s the way those kids are coached. But I DO know who coached him in previous summers and those guys absolutely promote team basketball.

My guy has been to bible study (By the way, i think it’s hilariously ironic that we can agree that one thing we do know, is that we don’t know!)

Probably one of the top 10 most impressive kids I’ve seen thus far this year. He was a beast throughout the PK80.

I have zero doubt you are out of your element in this argument, as virtually everyone has known other than you. Indeed this has become a ridiculous, tired line that you’ve taken throughout this “crusade” of yours. Of course there are a variety of ways to earn scholarships. But for basketball, certainly the best recipe is playing high profile summer ball. But don’t take my word for it, ask the guys that have those schollies to give. And I’ve been to multiple events in the past few years with scores of those guys. One such event routinely has 300 plus D1 coaches under 1 roof. Let me know the next time a “Big 3” game gets say 10 percent of that number, maybe even 1 percent of that number. But for someone who always seems focused on points alone, it is nice to see you mention being a teammate. Because unselfishness and being a great teammate happens to be one of this kid’s biggest strengths.
