  1. THAT would be a phenomenal hire. And he would be appreciated there.
  2. No one is talking about Girola. I don’t even know who that is. And don’t assume what I know or don’t know on the boys’ side. Maybe you are the one who is clueless there.
  3. Ok, ok. You did at least do some research to get the correct records. I still suspect you’ve seen zero of their games over the past two years or seen KJ coach a single game. I wouldn’t expect you to, it’s 2A girls basketball. Not like it’s televised. But from what it sounds like, it came down to a couple of guys that actually wanted the job and your administration hired the more experienced. I’m sure they wish they had more interest in the job. And speaking of the boys job, I wonder how much interest they would have gotten there too. You see, when the local “experts” run off a historically GREAT (not just good) coach, word tends to get around and the more qualified guys (and gals) may shy away. So KJ could be the best women’s coach since Hyden there and I suppose it’s possible your comrades still won’t be satisfied. Tough gig over there.
  4. Yeah if they were going to hire someone with no HC experience, they have one on staff who has been an OF kid all his life and coaching basketball at various levels there. One thing about it, Smalley has proven himself to be as good an AD as a football coach and he’s one heckuva of a football coach in my opinion. He truly cares and supports ALL the sports, boys and girls. They have had an incredible year winning district championships in boys and girls sports and sending multiple kids to state in individual sports. Just like with Jake, Erickson, Ragsdales, and many others we could name, I’m sure he will hire the right guy.
  5. Silsbee definitely has a better chance to get to state. I think the ceiling for BU is the regional tournament. If Silsbee does make it to state, their ceiling is probably whenever they play the DFW representative.
  6. Joubert had a 3-20 season recently. So he won 3 games more than zero. Fantastic. I’m sure he momentarily forgot how to coach that season. But thanks, by omission, for admitting you know nothing about Chilton girl’s basketball other than what you found on MaxPreps. You don’t know a thing about their personnel or their opponents. It may be “silly” for me to assume this, but it seems pretty obvious to be the case. I, unlike you, can tell you that during the season where the Lions won 3 games (according to MaxPreps - like you, have no idea if that’s accurate because, well, MaxPreps), his team was pretty bad (and that may be kind). I saw them play more than once with my own eyes. If they did only win 3 games, that doesn’t surprise me.
  7. It’s always close, but if I were betting, it would be that we stay 3A. I think our numbers might be lower than last realignment. In fairness to Josh, he’s a much better football coach than mathematician. And I only say that hoping it gets back to him 😂🤣
  8. He’s great at it also.
  9. And to be clear, the guy you few were arguing should have been hired would only have more experience than someone with ZERO experience. Think about that.
  10. What kind of talent did Chilton have compared to their opponents. Since we know what kind of experience it was, you must be able to let us know their strengths and weaknesses compared to their opponents. So when Kountze was god awful for a couple of years, Joubert forgot how to coach for a couple of seasons?
  11. It’s as dumb politically as it is in practicality. It never ceases to amaze me how truly out of touch with reality these idiots are who govern us.
  12. This issue is beyond stupid. I can’t even believe it’s a thing. Change your sex or whatever all you want. But you don’t do it and expect to compete against our daughters. That’s lunacy and a good way to push swing voters to the right.
  13. LCM pays better. And he will have better players there overall on a consistent basis. Would love to have him but pretty sure he wouldn’t be interested.
  14. Maybe so. Have no idea honestly. Nor do I know if he would be interested. Looks like his training business is starting to boom. For good reason.
  15. This. More so than ever. Teacher’s in higher demand than almost any profession. Wonder if there’s a way to solve that.
  16. Certification is easy assuming he graduated Lamar. As you know, it’s not like getting certified as a peace officer, etc. Essentially pay some money and pass a test. They hire people all the time (at OF at least, with understanding they will get certified in whatever time frame grace period TEA or whomever dictates
  17. 2 deepest runs in school history two (both third round). Those two teams each had a historically good player for Orangefield which always helps. But he probably had the most 6 year tenure of any coach in program history. Good guy too - wish him the best.
  18. Thought about Weisbrod. Personally would love that.
  19. A lot when moves significantly up or down.
  20. It wasn’t you, it was Johnny in the post quoted. But it sounds like what I suspected, there wasn’t a ton of interest in the job and it came down to two people. The job was given to the only one who had head coaching experience AND the only one with GIRLS coaching experience. Hardly an out of left field hire if that’s the case. But your points are well taken and fair enough. We both want the same thing. The girls to have success and be guided by someone with character who will positively impact their lives. I believe that is KJ, you have your reservations and I’m not saying you are unreasonable to have them. But I truly believe you and others will be pleasantly surprised. I will say that I’ve posted more on the girls basketball board in this thread than I have the whole board since I’ve been a member! Go Lady Cougars!
  21. P No one acted like that. You act like Buna women are the equivalent of UConn. To you and @gogo173489, sorry they didn’t hire someone with a whole one year of boys’ assistant coaching experience, none as a head coach and none with girls (other than “helping” from the bench at boys games). Since we are only discussing these two, tells me a lot about who was interested in this job. They didn’t hire someone that is from Buna. That’s why you guys are upset. I get it. As stated, I wish Remi all the best. My guess is if he was willing to switch to girls to stay in Buna, he will still be available in the future. Maybe he will get the boys job when the next coach gets run off.
  22. Was supposed to be there in July for a basketball event. Got switched to Las Vegas. You can imagine how happy I was, for many reasons.
  23. Wondering if anyone realizes (they didn’t when they were complaining about Tic on this site) that Price was the third most successful D1 basketball coach in Lamar’s history behind Tubbs and Foster. But don’t let facts get in the way of narratives.
  24. A) He was never a GA at Lamar (student manager) and let us know how that went? Making it to the conference tournament semi finals his last year? Or how he was exceptional at his job? I guess since you guys are experts, you have done more than look at MaxPreps to see what kind of teams he had? B ) The RC Hyden days aren’t likely coming again. I like the Connell family too but it appears that you all are advocating for hiring someone who also has limited experience coaching high school basketball, and not on the girl’s side. THAT would smack of local politics. C) In the end, if he doesn’t work out, you can move on. It’s girl’s Hs basketball. Not like you had to lock him in to a 10 year deal. Let’s wish him well and see what he can do. He’s a bright, energetic young man who knows the game. Give him a chance. If you do, I think you will be pleased.
  25. I think you guys will be very pleased with Coach Johnson. He will be great for the program and the community.
