Halfway thru district play assessment
TxHoops replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Agree on both counts. However, I always feel a little silly when I get surprised about a Coach Boutte team playing well and above expectations. You know? -
Yes he is. Heās a very good sophomore. And if itās hyperbole, I get it. But people are getting a little overhyped after a win over a Buna team that struggled with Kirbyville last game. And he wasnāt even the best player in the gym when Kountze got donkey punched earlier this week.

Same and most Silsbee games Iāve been to, Iāve rooted for the other team (because it was one of my kids or another Orange County team they were playing). āGet him off of him!ā is the one I hear over and over that is like nails on a chalkboard for me. āUmm, heās playing good defense maāamā (or sir!). However, Iāve always rooted for Silsbee when Iāve seen them play in Houston, or out of this area. The irony is that on those occasions, it seemed far less fouls were called on Silsbee yet I heard far less whining from the fans of Silsbeeās opponents.

That goes from basketball too and it annoys the heck out of me. Some schools are the worst. i will say that for a while (and I donāt know if he still does), a particular Hs Coach was using an out of area chapter and those honestly were some of the best officiated games Iāve seen. However, they were also the most annoying because people were screaming for fouls (in the opponentās fansā section of which I was a part) on every single possession. In reality they were just witnessing great defense and the officials werenāt calling every touch (as they shouldnāt). While I do believe a great number of the officials in our area are admittedly subpar, many of the fans are worse to the point it makes it cringy to sit and watch a game.
-
Thatās my issue. Why is it so bad in our area? Even the ones that are supposed to be the best veteran officials are mediocre at best. I donāt expect them to be college officials that I am used to seeing. But I donāt see why they are so much worse than almost every other HS region Iāve seen. I understand Houston has more people to pull from but they also have more games to cover. And I donāt expect them to be perfect. I doubt there has ever been a perfectly called game in the history of basketball. But at least be competent and know the rules.

Kountze 47 Orangefield 70/FINAL

Couldnāt agree more. Kid was two assists shy of a triple double last night. Triple doubles are rarer at the HS level than Bigfoot sightings. -

Good call. And good win by the Bears. Even impressive. May just need to not look past opponents in the future. Sometimes hard to prevent with athletes in general, more so when they are a bunch of teenagers. -

Chuck has been dropping truth bombs as long as I can remember. I remember when I was a very young man, people lost their mind over his āI am not a role model commercial.ā This is a 60 second clip that a LOT of people on both sides of the aisle probably need to hear. Also, San Antonio does have a lot of fat women

I donāt know why they are so bad in SETX but they just are. Not all, obviously. But the overall product is embarrassing. When I am in other venues (which is a lot) and hear complaining about the officiating, I always say, you should go watch a game in SETX. And worse, one of our 2 chapters is way worse than the other and the other may be the second to the worst Iāve seen (overall). On the other hand, last week I watched a D1 crew blow a 3 pt call (calling a shot a 3 when the shooter was 2 to 3 feet inside the 3 pt line), in a game that ultimately went to OT and the team that would have won lost. All 3 collegiate officials missed that call. So it may not just be on the HS level. The problem is, itās a job not many people would want.

In the last 18 months, we lost both Norm MacDonald and Barbara Walters. Most in the world would probably consider Walters the bigger loss. Give me Norm. Hereās an appearance on The View from over 20 years ago where he almost makes Walters and a couple of her cohorts lose their mind. Itās vintage Norm and they only let him stay on air for less than 7 minutes. If you like funny (and trolling liberals - no, not any of you!), please watch and enjoy. Happy Saturday.

Certainly nicer lol -
Come to think about it, do they still have that section of crystal beach where that sort of thing is encouraged?
-
Yeah SEC coordinator job probably pays way more too I am guessing. Good for him.
-
Either way, no one wants to see him nekkid. Maybe his lovely bride but thatās her cross to bear.

I thought this was a thread about @AggiesAreWe losing a rare bet in high schoolā¦

Heās now making about 1 out of 3 (has only shot about 30 this year) which is the equivalent of shooting 50 percent from 2. Not elite but itās definitely āgreen lightā numbers. I agree with you about his energy off the bench and the kid seems to make big plays. And in terms of last yearās team, I liked his game more than some of what was run out there. Admittedly, I havenāt watched anything more than highlights of Aggie basketball this year.

The Tale Of Two Football Cities: Port Neches-Groves And Nederland
TxHoops replied to Reagan's topic in High School Football
Thereās no argument. The S is silent. And I only call it The Groves. -
So happy for Hayden. He seems to produce when given opportunities. He finishes 3-3 from the field, all 3s. I never understand those box scores. If I have a kid who has taken 3 3s and made them all, Iām going to find ways to get him shots until he shows me heās no longer hitting them. Great night for the Houston Defenders. Jabari Rice (who used to have his way with them when they were freshmen) made some huge plays down the stretch to lead the Horns to a big win over Hefnerās longtime summer teammate Eddie Lampkin and TCU.

Yes. It really is genius

Big congrats to Unitedās Wesley Yates on his nomination to the McDonaldās All American game. So well deserved and couldnāt happen to a better young man. We are all proud of you!
