On a glorious afternoon in Lubbock, Texas... Years later, still makes me laugh [Hidden Content]
-
Haha! I am guilty of impatience with ol' Greg too!
-
Major Applewhite could have told him that...
-
Ole Miss said they are coming into that tackle box and beating that Aggie behind. Then they are going to charge the field, beat up some pseud-gi joes, and tear down the goal posts. Then they are going to ram it in the 12 man Tech style. That's what they told me anyway.

I have been rooting for Bo. Love his passion. But don't think he's going to ever be able to get the Huskers back to where they belong.
-
Stop listening to/reading Phil Steele. He's a jinx.
-
I think he has you confused with me, Tvc. Just because TVC is very bright, doesn't necessarily make him a liberal democrat :D. In fact, he is far from it. He just has a greater understanding of the laws in this country (including the constitution) than 99.99999999999999999% of the population. Up that percentage a bit for this board.
-
And he does truly believe that. Not something he would say in a presser, but something he is not afraid to say to his circle.
-
Doesn't concern me a bit. If you've ever met a guy like Charlie, losing is never a forethought for them, even when it should be. If anything, that gives me optimism. All the great ones are like that.
-
Smu would instantly get better recruiting classes than anyone in the state not named A&M, Texas or Baylor. IMO
-
I gotta agree with you OldTimer. But try and convince Charlie the season is a bust. He thinks this team can win out. I don't but admire his optimism. This should also tell us plenty about Heard's readiness or lack thereof.
-
Wanna bet whether that contract gets fulfilled? Fox can and will get appeased. The Big 12 will not last, Texas will join the conference it wants which will likely be either the ACC or PAC 12. The ACC has 2 of the other "Public Ivies" in UVA and UNC. The PAC 12 has one in Berkley and another top institution in Stanford. Like it or not, or believe it or not, the academics side of affiliations is of paramount importance in Austin. They don't need to join a conference for $. Whatever conference they join will reap the massive financial awards being tied to Texas brings.

A few notes: The consensus among the coaches (and really the players will tell you the same) is that Heard is simply not ready. Swoopes gives the team a better chance to win and throwing Jerrod out there now will hurt the team and, quite frankly, Jerrod. Barring a huge jump in practices or an injury, he looks to be a redshirt. Second, a lot of talk is circulating about pulling the rs off Duke Catalon. He is believed to be, by more than a few coaches and players, to be the most talented back on the team. He continues to amaze in practice. The staff really wanted to redshirt him due to having M Brown and Gray already toting the ball. But with Daje dinged up (hasn't practiced this week yet), they need his explosiveness. 50/50 whether we see him this year. Third, apparently Strong wanted guys like Bergeron, Estelle, Harrison, etc. gone long ago but let Patterson (who is very much feeling the heat) talk him into second and third chances (with rehab and the like). Strong isn't big on multiple chances and the players were mostly okay with letting go of their non-compliant teammates. Finally, Charlie said to hell with it, they're gone (with the two OTs most recently and notably). This was undermined with conflicting statements released out of Belmont which didn't make him happy. Ultimately, he put his foot down and said "Enough! This is my team." The players will not be back and, ironically, the big wigs are supportive of Strong and more mud is on Patterson's face. Finally, the only guy in the program with more heat on him than Patterson is Watson. When Strong announced he was bringing him, there were a lot of double takes. Patterson hitched his wagon to Strong and his defensive genius. But Charlie was told he could spend 7 figures + getting a top named OC. So everyone was a little leery when Watson was his choice. In comes the Wickline hire and the belief that he would be calling the plays (but he hasn't). Watson either has to turn it around quickly or he will be having a short stay in Austin. Strong is not going to be afforded the opportunity to exhibit loyalty in the same manner Mack was with Greg Davis.

You can bet that. Love that it's a night game. I am quite certain that the 12th Man will do their part.

I enjoy that show in small doses. Mostly for Finebaum, who is one of the very best at what he does. He knows the callers make his show and he lets them perform. He's built a heckuva career on the backs of those hillbillies. By the way, that is exhibit A of why I am glad Texas would never join that conference. When you lay down with pigs....
-
I am with you there. I don't know how many times we had a series where brown or gray were chewing up yards and we pass on 1d and get in a hole. Daje needs the ball a lot too and hopefully he will. I am hoping it was just a 1st game back thing. He needs to be returning kicks too. I hoped Wickline would be calling the plays and still do. Charlie obviously is a defensive guru. But he's going to have to find someone who matches him on the other side of the ball. With a blank check, there is no excuse not to.

Heard this Saturday. He will almost certainly get it. He will return, Jonathan gray will return for senior season, and DT Malcolm brown will almost certainly enter draft.
-
Fwiw, I have been told by a current player (defensive) that Heard is very talented but not ready yet. In their practice reps, he says there is a significant drop off between swoopes and heard. Let the coaches coach.
-
I bet you would. You could lose out and still win that bet!
-
I would have been shocked if they weren't. Home field is worth several points in Cfb, probably worth more at Kyle than most venues. I think the Aggies win this one. How close will depend on which defense we see. I will say 45-28.
-
Not sure defense will let it get that far out of control but this definitely looks like another game for the gamblers to make some easy money. I would say 20-24 pt range for a final with Texas with 7-10 pts. I will say 31-10.
-
I love Mike Leach. Might be my all time favorite coach. He's not the best, but his teams are always fun to watch and no one is funnier.
-
Yep, the good news after yesterday is that if you win out, you still easily make the playoff. The bad news after yesterday is you have to figure something out defensively or you will lose at least twice more.
-
Been trying to get someone to believe him since before the season started. I think he's finally succeeded.

If this is more appropriate for the political forum, I apologize to the mods. I choose not to post over there because I find it an exercise in futility. But I found this very thought provoking and we might have some interesting discussion here. Thoughts? [Hidden Content]
