Perkins graduated HS in 03 I believe. -
I think he was being sarcastic.. I have definitely seen before when Silsbee fans claim to not have had enough recognition after dominating an All District selection. I may be wrong, but I think that's what he's eluding to.
-
That's fantastic.

True enough. And it inevitably happens every year.. for some districts, the picks will come out and I think to myself how ridiculous it is. Only to blame political correctness, parents, and small districts. Oh well.. it never changes and likely won't. I applaud the schools that try to do it right and congrats to the kids.. because they can't help it either way. I can't help but think back to not too terribly long ago when very few teams were "successful" (playoffs) in districts that were much larger and very few kids got accolades.. making it more meaningful. But that's just me. Rant over.

I don't understand your comment. I know it's football.. I was eluding to it seeming as though everyone makes all district. At least sometimes it seems that way.

Goodrich 4 Dallardsville Big Sandy 79/FINAL

There are a few schools in the SeTx area that surprise me every year that their doors remain open. Oh well.. I won't express my opinions on it, because it will start an argument. I digress. To hear that they'll be exceptionally bad is troubling. I just don't see how it does anyone any good for a school to get their brains beat in every game. That's not even remotely competitive.. 4 points? Sheesh. Whether Big Sandy is good or not is irrelevant. -

When's the last time they had a respectable year? I think this has been happening for quite some time. Btw (replying about a different post), Goodrich has always (I think) not suited out very many. -
Based on what I've seen the last however many years... if they started on offense or defense, they'll probably make All-District. Or is that a basketball thing?

LOL. I have know idea if these kids are football players or not.. but I've heard they aren't bad. Possibly better at basketball than they are at football. If you can believe that. -

It definitely makes that more possible when a group of 7th graders play under the same HFC through graduation. -

That's the point that needs to be understood. Perfectly said. Btw.. like you mention, the slot-t wins a lot of games every year. Some teams simply need to rely on misdirection and/or easy to understand blocking schemes. It drives me nuts when the sideline coaches start in on who should be playing where and what needs to happen offensively/defensively. I mean.. so just become a coach if you're hell bent on doing things differently. Either that or let the coaches do what they were hired to do. -

That's the first step to the creation of a favorable culture. Trusting that the coach is doing what's best for the program.. and that little Johnny would happily fill whatever role is needed of them. -

Angry? Not even close.. I actually couldn't care less nor do I have a dog in the fight. I just don't really like reexplaining simple concepts. The team will overcome the main issue at hand (a losing culture) with a consistent head coach that is allowed to implement his program without parent interference. That.. is the real trick. -

I have no idea.. and yes, I would think even an average to above average coach could figure out what system would suit whoever he has in the program. -

NONE.. but that's the point. The offense that they end up running will likely be the best one suited for their players. According to the coached hired to do the task. So, making comments like.."well..a great coach could blah blah blah spread.." WRONG! It takes a specific type of skill to pull off an offensive scheme such as spreading a defense out across the field and using speed to gain yards... unless the talent is just so overwhelming to the other team that it doesn't matter. Case in point: Newton and WOS could undoubtedly run whatever offense they wanted to and still dominate their respective districts and even a few rounds deep. Lumberton can not. I can already see this turning into a nightmare situation for the next coach. Oh well.. seems to be the norm with teams that don't win consistently. -

A smart quarterback with the ability to hit a target.. and fairly fast, good route running backs and receivers that can catch. The best spread coach in the world can't beat Alabama with a group of junior high girls. -

Even a good spread coach needs at least a portion of a certain type of clientele. -

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Coach Babin. Based on what I’ve seen and where he’s been.. he’s definitely a quality coach. But make no mistake, had they not dropped there would have been NO success in football. Keep that in mind. I’m not certain that they could successfully implement a spread style offense where they are now. They go back up to 5A it’s gonna be an immediate struggle. Comments like the one you just made: “A great coach could win at Lumberton using the spread”.. is the reason that the school struggles with consistency in the coaching department. I feel sorry for whoever gets the job knowing that there are fans with unrealistic expectations. -

I would like to think that coaches use whatever system fits the talent or lack of... of the kids they have. I know that a coach is considered a bad coach when they don't win but none of them are trying to lose on purpose...even the bad ones. It's very possible that the kids currently at Lumberton just don't have the personnel to spread it out and sling it around. I understand that's what all of the sideline coaches want their hometown teams to do but let's be real. Everyone wants to go no back with some run/pass option but come on.. Why risk a 70-0 loss due to 3 incompletions and a punt every possession without burning any time. Even the offensive coordinator from Austin Westlake will NOT be able to do whatever he does at WL if he came to Lumberton. -

It's laughable to think that a coordinator from LT or WL would make the difference. You mentioned two schools that have kids with unlimited resources and a community that NEVER has to discuss what kind of coach is needed to make the difference. Literal D1 athletes and future pro players. Plus.. I'll bet good money that their coordinators would rather stay where they are than take on the head gig in a historically failed football program. -

I have no idea what kind of resume they’ll get. I’m just saying that staying open minded at a school with a poor football history such as Lumberton. I’ll wager that they probably go with the best resume every time. How has that changed anything? I’m not saying that a coach’s experience shouldn’t be a factor, because it certainly does, but maybe other details should be taken into consideration as well.
