Hmm... can't say I disagree. Seems like anyway. I don't know for sure, maybe he is a fantastic coach and I'm sure he is. But.. did he drastically turn the program around or get players than can play?

I wouldn't agree that this makes you the best coach either. There is no doubt that any coach is judged on wins and/or titles but there much more to it than that. Every single year.. the coach that wins the state championship does not necessarily mean that he/she is the best coach in the state. No more than just simply beating someone else doesn't make you a better coach than them. There are a lot of variables. It could easily be argued that Kevin Foster is the best varsity head coach in the area currently. I'm pretty certain that he doesn't lead in wins and I don't think he has any state titles. But.. he is consistently successful each year with small-averaged sized kids. They don't ever have any D1 type talent.. The coaches in the area with state titles, how many titles have they won withOUT D1 talent on their teams? Not to downgrade any accomplishment.. But then you get into the "well Big Sandy gets to start practice in August".. which certainly doesn't hurt. So I don't know.. all I know is that there are coaches who get the absolute most out of what they have and then there are coaches who get really great players.

Everybody wants a good head coach until a good head coach has to do good head coach stuff.

The cities with populations of several million have multiple schools going from a few hundred to a few thousand. There is a solution.. schools with similar school enrollment play each other. It's unfortunate that cities have the luxury of apartment complexes where families can change their permanent address at the drop of a hat, but there are still zoning restrictions along with the PAPF. That's the best solution available.

You do realize that the TOWN population of the largest school in the state is only 100,000 or so, right? So according to the idea of classification based on town size Allen would no longer have to play Dallas ISD schools. Brilliant. Also.. the population of Aledo is barely over 4,000. That's half the size of Bridge City. See why school populations matter?

Fact. A good buddy of mine that used to coach used to say "I'd drive across the state for a win but I won't walk across the street for an a$$ whipping." Seems logical to me.

Especially considering that football won't travel to every opponent every year for varsity sports.. they alternate each year. Whereas the other sports will travel to every opponent every year. Playing two games a week.

Agree 100%. Like I said.. just do it the same with them all. Football, basketball, baseball, volleyball.. and just sent two big school and two small school. Could possibly go back to 8+ sized districts which would be great in my opinion.

Or.. just do away with divisions in football and make the basketball/football/baseball districts the same, but in football send two of them to a big school bracket and two to a small school one. Go ahead and do that with baseball and basketball too... big school champ and small school champ. I don't know. I'm sure there are plenty of flaws with that theory that I'll get bombarded with shortly.

It's weird that Hardin was moved out of the district.. being that they're pretty much in this exact district for football.

Winning cures everything. If Lumberton was losing every game and not a playoff contender then there would be a problem with "yelling" or whatever else a parent could come up with.

Not that I necessarily agree with both sides of the argument, but I do realize that complacency could trigger many "the grass is greener somewhere else" feelings. Especially considering that most teachers that do a lot of complaining (I'm assuming) can remember a time when conditions were seemingly better. A time when if a teacher had issues out of a kid all they had to do was walk outside and three on the backside would fix it. A time when expectations of their job was probably much lower. So in that regard, I understand why they are making the argument.. ya know.. "we don't get paid enough for this". Like you say and I agree with, it's not difficult to do something else. I also think that the teachers' salaries are reflective of the amount they have to deal with in regards to school size. It's true that you won't get paid the same in a tiny school as you would in a huge school... but you also won't have 40 kids in a room that may or may not include gang members (embellishment). So yeah.. maybe the grass is greener somewhere else and maybe it's not. Go find out if it's that hard to deal with. I think a good number of educators are ok with their job and are perfectly happy with the reward vs. risk. Just my opinion based on the friends/family I have in the profession.

Are you assuming gender? Totally kidding.. Sometimes I guess I'm perceived as a jerk, but mostly I'm really just trying to be funny. I guess that's why my career path veered away from comedy.

Maybe true.. but even though people are just getting random degrees then becoming certified through alternative plans, there are still significant shortages every year all across the state. People aren’t even becoming teachers and then falling back on their degree.. They’re skipping becoming a teacher altogether and teachers that have been so for years are leaving the profession in mass numbers.

I'm told regularly from my many friends in education that there is a mass exodus concerning both coaches AND teachers from the profession. Not just BISD. I also have a friend that words in the education department at SFA that tells me the number of students they're having in the education program lately is scary low. I'm not sure if teacher pay would correct the issue or not.. people can speculate but the reason may not be money. Like you said..."despite having one of the higher paying districts in SETX".
