From The Files Of "That It's All About The Coaching!"
oldschool2 replied to Reagan's topic in High School Football
It is a fact that a bond (voted for by the taxpaying citizens of Allen ISD) was passed in order to build a 60 million dollar football stadium for their school. I am speculating that a parent would rather have their kid play football there than...(insert North Tx school district). I have close personal friends that coach in DFW and it is explained to me in full detail that when a player doesn't like their current situation for whatever reason it's nothing to simply sign a lease contract with an apartment building in another district and change teams. It could be something as simple as not liking their current position or even their English teacher. And if you don't think that's happening in every big city in the state then you're too naive to understand. Coaches don't have to recruit.. facilities and high paid teachers/coaches are a recruitment strategy in itself. -

First .. the only recruiting being done at Allen is by the taxpayers of that community. Their decision to build the nicest facilities in the area is what inticed those parents to bring their kids there. Second .. you’re opinion is somewhat irrelevant. Remember that one time you tried to convince everyone that Allen always wins because of enrollment/recruitment/home field advantage?? Well.. we didn’t. All of those ^ excuses were not only proven wrong by numerous examples, but proven way wrong THIS YEAR. Smh.. the irony of someone from East Chambers complaining about another school getting football transfers. -
I think the original points that were made regarding the schedule was that last year and the year prior Hardin scheduled a tougher preseason schedule than this year. By quite a stretch. And it seems as though the year's outcome is going to be identical. Tied for 4th at best. The preseason schedule didn't help them last year just like it didn't help a few other teams in the district this year. I also think that the 32 - 6 foul count was in reference to the first time that they played. Not this time.
-
That may have had something to do with it also. In small school games, one player can make all the difference in the world.
-
Gotcha. I wasn't aware they played similar styles.. my apologies. It was more of a knee jerk reaction to times I've seen that comment made previously by fans looking for something to blame a loss on. Not saying you were doing that. To add to points made by both of us. Wasn't Warren missing some players in that first game? I thought I read that. If so. I don't know how deep Warren's bench is but it may be possible that Warren had kids on the floor that "would not know how to position themselves defensively to avoid fouling." Correct?
-
I hate when this is thrown out there, by the way. This can be attributed solely to the style of play. I've seen from several posters on here several times that Hardin slows the ball way down and plays very slow, half court basketball. A team that does that is not going to foul a lot in the first place.
-
Gotcha. I agree with that. I know that when I was in college we spent about 20 minutes of every practice working strictly on situational basketball. I know it's a lot different when you throw a shot clock in the mix but my point still remains. Have to learn how to handle those situations somehow. Most kids don't watch basketball and when they do..they aren't watching it for learning purposes.

I haven't seen them play..so take my opinion for what it is. An opinion. But..I would think that having a lead of 4 with less than a minute actually does take a fair amount of basketball IQ to hold that lead or worst case scenario.. make sure it at least goes to overtime. It takes basketball "know how" to play with a close lead just like it takes basketball "know how" to play from behind. Even if you have a lead by 4 and give up a 3 within the next 10 seconds you still have a 1 point lead with 50 seconds. It takes a fair amount of basketball IQ to hold on to the ball without turning it over or taking a stupid, rushed shot. Chances are they get fouled and maybe go to the line. Let's say HHS misses the front end or both or just makes one.. worst case you still have a 1 pt lead and have to play defense for 45 seconds. Did Warren hold for the last shot or did they go down and score right away? Or did they get fouled (low bball IQ)? It should've at worst been Hardin's ball at the end of the game down by 1 shot. How the heck did this end up a 6 point loss? I can only speculate that some bad decisions may have been made.. Or some silly decisions/turnovers/rushed shots. Very possible that a 10 points swing in the final minute of the game was a result of kids that don't really know how to play basketball. Even if they're scrappy. Is that what's meant by low IQ, possibly? Again..I wasn't there.

What happened to Anahuac basketball is what's currently going on with Kountze basketball. Can't win a horse race with a donkey.

I hear a while back it was coming.

If that ^ was the case then I doubt anyone would know who either of them is. -

Just gonna ignore my question? That's alright... I could make you a list of all of the football coaches that won state titles and never even came close afterward...but I won't. Think whatever you want to think. -

Oh I gotcha... so coaching only matters in football? Alright, then how about Cornell Thompson? Why didn't WOS win state this last year? Come to think of it...they didn't even get out of the region. Is he not as good of a coach as he was? Scott Surratt? -

Well, people already claim that they should at least be winning a playoff game by now. Not me..people. But ok. What about Kountze Basketball? He's been there over a decade...that long enough? -

Players or coaches? Here are two examples for you that are relevant. Barbers Hill Football. Is it the players...or the coach? Kountze Basketball. Is it the players...or the coach? -

TODD PAINE NAMED NEW HC AT KOUNTZE
oldschool2 replied to urban_meyer's topic in High School Football
I doubt very seriously that he'd give up the AD title voluntarily. Right or not... I'm willing to bet that he "and others" feel as though he has earned the right to be the Athletic Director of Kountze High School. Regardless of the sport. True that they won't get a seasoned football guy without that title and money that goes with it. I would hope they can somewhat negotiate on how to find the new person a salary relatively deserving of a Head Football Coach without piling a lot of other sports on top of it to do so. You might be surprised. There are a lot of young, hungry football coaches out there that really want to get their start. No matter what happens I'm sure it'll work out fine. Certainly, it'll be much better for Joubert not having to deal with that extra headache. Which also makes me certain that he'll try to hire someone that will be capable of absorbing some of that stress. -
Nobody is calling his ability into question. I just think that he may have outkicked his coverage. Even the hardest working of individuals can bite off more than they can chew.

TODD PAINE NAMED NEW HC AT KOUNTZE
oldschool2 replied to urban_meyer's topic in High School Football
Probably because up until this year basketball was the best game in town. Why take over a program that has never been in any good just to give up a program that's a consistent powerhouse? -
You and I can both agree that Joubert was the best person for football. However, if you try and tell me that he or anyone else can successfully devote the time/energy required to do Head Football AND Head Basketball in the same season then we will have to agree to disagree. Just like I don't think it's possible to do Head Basketball and Head Baseball in the same season. It is very possible and even likely to stretch yourself too thin. Eventually, a choice has to be made which one to give max effort to or a choice has to be made to split your effort between the two. Just one small example.. when he was doing Head Basketball only do you really think he cared if his kids decided not to play football and to go in the gym every day after school? So what do you do when you take over football? Convince them they need to play football and help the football team even though it may hurt the basketball team?.. See what I mean?

SMH about yeah he will? Or SMH about the experiment running it's course?
