  1. He didn’t call a team toothless, no fight, no talent dogs. Toothless dog fight is COMPAREing a game to a fight between 2 dogs with nothing to fight with.
  2. Being 3-0 doesn’t mean you’re not bad. I’ll guarantee you that it could’ve just as easily been 0-3 with a difference of preseason scheduling. Coach Haynes did a good job putting together a schedule conducive to winning. I’m also pretty sure that Hardin was in a district last year that didn’t win a single playoff game. I need to double check but I think I’m remembering that correctly. So that’s not a good argument for you to make.
  3. First of all.. I wasn't talking/referring to/about you. I was talking about the guy that accused another guy of "trolling 16-18 year old kids" for simply referring to this game as a toothless dog fight. However, if you must know, you're wrong. Being 3-0 doesn't make you a good team. As of right now you guys haven't beaten a single team that has won a game. Not one. That may not change after this week. It does matter how good/bad the competition is. Fact is..Hardin MIGHT finish 4th or 5th in a district that never gets past round 3. I'm sorry to say but that doesn't equal good team. I have no doubt that the kids play hard and that they are suprising some people. But the suprise went from "they'll finish 2nd to last" to "they will likely get 5th..maybe even 4th". Don't take it personal. They're exceeding the pre-season expectations but still not considered a good team.
  4. It is possible to say that a team is bad but not be pointing out or talking about any individual players. This PC crap is infecting everything.
  5. Sure there are many characteristics along those lines that play into the willingness to be great. Another is dedication..work ethic. Those kinds of things seem nonexistent. Have you ever read 'Culture Defeats Stragety' by Randy Jackson? It's pretty good.
  6. I like this thread too much not to chime in: Great program?: Genetics/athletes for starters, transfers (winning and facilities will draw people), consistent coaching (not a new AD every time you have a bad year), community support (is vital), favorable size/classification (that's a big deal in football), steady homelives (it's hard to win with kids that are in constant survival mode), and sometimes having a good game when another team (better team) doesn't. Make no mistake..every single school in the state is aspiring to win as many games as possible and every coach in the state has a goal of winning it all. Not everyone gets to. Most don't, in fact. There are definitely some qualities that consistent powerhouses possess and I listed some of them but not all. Sometimes you don't need every single thing listed to have success. Sometimes it takes what was listed and more. I was pleasently surprised by some of the comments on this thread by the way. Maybe people are starting to realize some things..
  7. So do I. Don't get me wrong.. I appreciate a good spread game as much as the next man but misdirection and/or pound it will always be my favorite. I also understand displaying and using athleticism when you have it..but I'm a fan of clock control. Call me old fashioned I guess
  8. Yeah there are a bunch. There are still many teams winning state titles running the slot T or variations of it. It really is a great offense.
  9. There are more than just those. Slot T is very difficult to stop when done correctly. When you combine either a really good defense or an offense that could also score quickly if need be...you almost can't beat it.

  11. Worst start to a season I've had doing this. Trash.. smh
  12. I literally copy and pasted a definition off of google to show that technically...what was brought up by someone else...was technically accurate. Every week there are 25 games posted in the pickems. That's 25 winners and 25 losers. See..does that statement mean that I just called 25 teams a bunch of losers? I didn't call anyone a loser and this is stupid that this conversation is happening.
  13. I see you picked and chosen two different statements and didn't put the info in between. That's fine. By the way the only reason I put the definition of the word loser was to show what it technically means. You're the one that brought it up. If you must know...yes in every single contest there is a winner and there is a loser. That doesn't mean that the word defines them. That's one of the things sports can teach us if done correctly. SP wasn't doing it correctly. Nice try though. I'm glad you're through with it because you did a poor job of making feel any differently or have any remorse for what I typed whatsoever. Don't take it personal, though.. There are several schools I feel the same way about. We just happened to be talking about Sabine Pass at the moment.
  14. I didn't say the kids in the athletic department don't work...I said they DON'T HAVE TO. I also didn't say you could walk in and be valedictorian or salutatorian.. I said there isn't as much competition to do so. Are you implying that being valedictorian at Sabine Pass is more difficult to do than being valedictorian at a school with 4 or 5 times the enrollment? or more There's not one single thing that I typed that is "ripping or dissing" kids from anywhere. I invite you to go reread anything I typed and see for yourself. Perhaps you're getting so defensive because you realize that there's some truth in what I'm saying.
  15. I'm not sure how this went so far out into left field...or why you're seeming so butt hurt... but I didn't call anyone a loser and certainly am not hating on kids. Maybe you should go back and reread all of my posts so you can understand what I'm talking about. Or maybe not...who knows. I've said this whole season that they need to fold football for various reason.. like to prevent injury for starters. It has nothing to do with David vs Goliath. I wouldn't want a 3A football team to play a 6A football team for the same reason...or a JH team play a HS team. After that I offered my opinion on how small schools lack providing competition...which is true...and which is important to learn in life. (above example) I also think it's funny that you're under the impression that I may be...reliving some type of glory days scenario?.. That's too stupid for a response because I can assure you that you don't know anything about me and are obviously so far off that I'm literally laughing about it.
  16. los·er ˈlo͞ozər/ noun a person or thing that loses or has lost something, especially a game or contest.

  18. I attacked them by saying that schools like Sabine Pass don't require much effort to make the team?... Maybe you're either delusional or don't understand mathematics. If there are only 11 kids on a football team...everybody is a starter. 20 kids...there's a high liklihood of being a starter. 30 kids...a little tougher to be a starter. So on and so forth...catch my drift? So yes. When there are few kids on a team...especially a on a bad team...everybody is probably going to letter in football. I didn't call anyone a slacker, I just implied that they COULD BE at a school like Sabine Pass. If you have a problem with that truth..I don't care. Life's tough and sports is supposed to be one of the first lessons that there are winners and losers. There are starters and people that ride the bench. There is a varsity and there is a JV. Kids need to learn that when 900 people apply for a job...there will be 899 losers.
  19. Just that one part? I guess it's a start ; )
  20. Care so much about them that you're willing to let the majority have a serious risk for real injury and all a definite risk of embarrassment for the sake of a few (maybe) who pull the shoulder pads that care? The Little Giants was just a movie, bro. That's not real world. I made an argument a couple years ago on this site that I thought that all schools with an enrollment of less than 400 should either close or consolidate (or both).. I was attacked for that opinion of course. From most people on here. I have changed my mind somewhat but still feel that the idea remains justified. Kids no longer learn how to compete for anything, which can be detrimental when they get out of high school. Your statement is a good example of just what I'm saying. If a kid truly wants to play football and is willing to do what it takes to become a better athlete, compete for a spot, and be held accountable...then yes. They should get to experience the Friday night lights..as you put it. However...at schools like Sabine Pass all you have to do is show up..maybe not even that..and you can get you a letterman jacket. To me that's quite a disservice to most kids around the country who have to work their tails off and earn a spot on whatever football team they play for. Or any other activiy..even valedictorian/salutatorian.
  21. The schedule they were playing could possibly be the weakest schedule in all of Texas 11 man football. Even so..there are only so many private schools you can get in preseason to make an actual competitive game. Then you end up having to play another local school from the class just above you.. this year is was HD. HD aren't world beaters but they could've beaten Sabine Pass 100-0. Then comes district.. and even though there are other teams that are also sometimes very bad (Burkeville, Colmesneil,.) there are still teams like Evadale, Grapeland, Lovelady. Who know that they're only going to get a half to rack up as many yards/points as coach will let them. That.. is how bad players on bad teams get hurt. Seriously hurt. Sabine Pass has no reason to play football.
  22. I'm not trying to seem argumentative...but I'm count this as a half truth. Especially to what's implied (I think). I'll concede to the fact that they definitely have a best player and the kid you're referring to is probably him. But being the best player on that team and being an "All-District type player" in that district doesn't necessarily make him a beast. I would bet that most..if not not all..of those players are lucky to be playing at Sabine Pass or they probably wouldn't be getting those minutes. It's sad for the kid that he won't get to finish the season but honestly.. as a school they have zero reason to attempt to field a football team. I'm surprised they aren't getting a kid or more hurt every game.
  23. What you would probably get is 10 different 30 year old Athletic Directors. If you’re ok with that..persuade you board members and community to save 300-400k over the next 10 years.
  24. Is that worth having an incompetent AD during that decade? Knock 30-40k on the AD salary and you’ll never have an experienced or proven head coach ever again.
  25. My worst week in a while. Sheesh.
