Not against a law of any kind to have a camera in or around a locker room or restroom where kids change clothes? Well then...I hope they start doing that in every locker room in the country. I for one wish we could turn back time and put cameras in all of the locker rooms my kids used growing up. We certainly can't have kids stealing stuff out of lockers.

Dallardsville Big Sandy 73 Evadale 77/FINAL
oldschool2 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I doubt anyone from Big Sandy knew there was a football game going on. But yes...they missed one of the great ones of all time. -
WOS hasn't had a competitive game all year. If they took PNG or Memorial's spot they would have at least had competitive games all the way through the year/playoffs. That's the point I made earlier. It's not that they couldn't beat any of them...it's the fact that they would have to play them all back to back to back games...They haven't even had to use their starters for an entire game a single time this year. Last year they played a good team in a higher classification and took it on the chin. The last time WOS had to play competitive games all the way through the playoffs they didn't make it out of the region. I know this isn't the same WOS team...but if you can't see the difference in every playoff game being a dog fight, and every playoff game being a cakewalk then I don't know what to tell you. It would make things different.

Hardin officially parts ways with Stark
oldschool2 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
What will they do if the great Larry Haynes shows up, decides during 2-a-days that it won't be as glamorous as he thinks, and decides to "retire" again? Or just walk away...Hasn't that happened once or twice since the last time Hardin ran him out of town? Just curious. I think he's probably a good enough of a coach to see how tough it's going to be to climb out of an 0-10 group in Hardin. Especially knowing he can't change the schedule this year...and some of the beatings Hardin took (50-0 ish) had nothing to do with coaching. -
Now see...some of you guys force me to be the jerk. It's not that I enjoy it...but someone has to be realistic. WOS. VERY good football team. No question that they are the best team in this area and more than likely the best team in all of 4A. No doubt the best team in 4A D2...but probably the entire classification. Does that mean that they would win the whole thing if classifications were still the same? Possibly. We'll never know. I even think they could give Aledo a good game. Does that mean they would make it thru the 5A playoffs to the title game? NO. It does not. WOS hasn't had to play a single game this year where they've had to keep their starters in for an entire game. Including the playoffs. It's a little bit different when every week is a dog fight. Now making this list is an enormous honor. It means that their season has not gone overlooked by national standards. And definitely, won't be forgotten. But making this list does not mean they are on the same level as 5A and 6A competition. I mean...come on.

Wouldn't matter if it was Bill Belichick -
Not on paper. All that matters

Those kids and coaches wouldn't be at those schools if the facilities weren't top notch, have huge community backing, and high coaching salaries.

I'm surprised nobody is noticing the connection of my previous question and success. I asked what schools have coaches that have been there a decade or more. Any sport. Boys or girls. Every single response I got was a consistently competitive school in that sport. I'm not saying it's the ONLY thing that contributes to success. But it's an awful funny coincidence.

I have a theory or 2. But before I share. Name the schools in SeTX that have had the same coach for 10+ or so years. Any sport..boys or girls.

Split JV team aside.. Boys Harbor, High Island, Sabine Pass. WHY is a 4A school playing in a tournament with those schools? -

oldschool2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
So Sabine Pass freshmen team gonna get a lot of district games this year? If that's a bet I would lose then it sounds to me like that whole district has the same problem. Bottom line...if you aren't good enough to be on a JV or varsity at a 2A school (ANY 2A school) then you probably won't ever contribute. And they need to go to offseason because if they aren't good enough for 2A JV then they probably need to be stronger or faster. Or both. No sense in keeping more kids than you can use to run team offense or defense with during practice. If you have enough to have about 7 or 8 on JV and no more than 10 on varsity...that's MORE than enough. Everyone else is in the way. -

Here's what it says to me...Sabine Pass will let any person in the school with a pulse play basketball if they want to. Having too many kids on the floor during practice time will not be good for whoever is on the varsity team. Limited goals, limited reps, limited coaching attention... They need to let some of those kids loose and make sure the kids that will actually contribute to varsity competition get all the reps they need. I'll bet money that no other teams in that district will have a freshman team. If they aren't good enough to play JV or Varsity at Sabine Pass...send them to offseason. -

Good grief. What in the world was Hamshire doing in this tournament? As soon as I saw the tournament bracket I would've used the entry fee money to just buy a trophy...and stayed home and practiced. -

And funny story...true story. None of my teammates ever had anything stolen either. Maybe it was because when coach assigned us our locker and gave us our lock he said "If you don't keep it locked and something gets stolen, there's nothing I can do" Imagine the insanity. -

Well, you would think. 4 years of high school ball. Football, basketball, and baseball. Even kept things in my locker all through summer. Then 4 years of college ball....never once had a single thing taken out of my locker. Of course, I had the locker locked at all times... I don't know. Call me old fashioned I guess. -

Just out of curiosity...what can be done? Give the kids a means to keep their belongings safe. Keep the locker room locked when nobody is dressing. If it's still a problem...then it's a police matter. How do you know he wasn't told that by the administration? I'm not saying he was...I don't have a clue. But the locker room was obviously not kept locked up...because I read a comment on here saying the camera did indeed catch the thief going into the locker room. -

It was sarcasm. Because you implied that he wouldn't be going through the crap he is now if he were at Vidor instead of Westbrook. I'm simply pointing out that...no, he'd be going through this at ANY school. Because putting a video camera in or around a locker room is pretty high up there on the list of things that may get you fired. -

They allow coaches to put video cameras in locker rooms in Vidor? -
West Brook's Flanigan Placed on Administrative Leave
oldschool2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
I don't suppose you've been reading my posts on the subject. Did I say locks would prevent something from being stolen? No, I did not. I just said that providing a lock is the extent of the coach's responsibility on this matter. -
West Brook's Flanigan Placed on Administrative Leave
oldschool2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
I don't guess you understand what I'm saying. I'M NOT DEFENDING THE THIEF. I'm just saying that the coach's ONLY responsibility is to provide players with a way to keep their belongings safe. If he does...and they don't do that...then they are NOT preventing their things from being stolen. Therefore should not be surprised...or upset...if their things are stolen. No, it doesn't make it ok. Yes, the thief should suffer the full extent of the rules/law if caught. But it is not the coach's job to catch the thief. Just to make an attempt to prevent things from being stolen. If a kid tells me they had something stolen out of their locker the first thing I'm asking is "Was your locker locked? If not...what am I expected to do? Put up a camera and maybe get fired or arrested because players didn't prevent things from being stolen...?" The answer is no. -

oldschool2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
But you kind of proved my point. If you wouldn't leave your house and car unlocked... why would you think it's ok for kids to leave lockers unlocked? I don't even know the situation. I'm just saying give the kids a locker and a lock. Beyond that, nothing else is necessary. Unless you want to risk losing your job. -
West Brook's Flanigan Placed on Administrative Leave
oldschool2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
I keep my doors locked on my house every time I leave. And I have security cameras facing every entrance. And I have insurance. And I have a 600 pound fireproof, floodproof gun safe where I keep my valuables. Does that mean it's impossible for someone to break into my house and steal something? Of course not. But precautions were taken. If a coach is using precautions (lockers with locks)... then that's all they are required to do. Of course, I'm not placing blame on the kids... but if they weren't keeping their stuff locked up, then they weren't using proper prevention. Do you seriously leave your house unlocked? Better yet...would you drive to the mall in Beaumont, leave your car running with the door open, and go into the mall for several hours?
