  1. No way he leaves Jasper and the familial proximity he has to enter into that dumpster fire at BC.
  2. Yeah, those are sketchy also. Try amillennialism.
  3. Any chance Chip Keel surfaces for this job, or for the Shepherd job if Miles leaves for CS? He's a good one, who did some unfortunate things, but was welcomed back into the community of Shepherd after those things happened. Seems teed up to get back into the game at some point.
  4. Anyone know what is going on here? Such a strange story.
  5. This makes no sense, but now that I realize that you are coming at this from a Seventh Day Adventist perspective, I can begin to understand.
  6. I'll address you both, this statement is asinine. Do you think Nick Saban, and his ilk, are fooled by the level of competition around a kid? Those kids are getting D1 looks because they have the tools to be a D1 player. The competition rarely matters....the high level coaches know talent when they see it. What I said earlier about day in and day out competition is why those kids don't succeed. And don't pass judgement too quickly on Kyler Murray. He still has a lot of football left to play.
  7. This is correct. That's a quick way to get run out of town. It's seen as a lack of "buy in", and rightfully so. If I am the head football coach and I am asking kids to "be all in" on the Baytown Sterling football program, but my kids are "all in" at Barbers Hill, they pretty quickly realize I am full of caca.
  8. But you are clearly not from the LeBron generation. Kids these days will bolt in a second on their teammates for a chance to win.
  9. Is your insinuation that these athletes were met by poor coaching at the next level? Whether McNeese, SFA, or Alabama, you can bet those coaches are as good if not better than most coaches on the TXHSFB spectrum. The problem is, athletes at Newton can rely on their pure athleticism along with Johnston/Barbay's coaching aptitude to put them in positions to win. If there is any root to their lack of success at the next level, it's probably because they never had to compete in practice in high school. Some of those kids probably could have been good college athletes, but when they got to practice, and everyone was on their level athletically, they weren't willing to put in the work to earn their spot everyday. That's something Johnston/Barbay ever had to deal with at Newton. They could go half speed in practice and outshine every other player on that field.
  10. Westerberg has gotten more out of BH than anyone in the state could have to this point. He will continue to get more and they will continue to be a solid team. But as the icon is trying to say, if one or two transcendent athletes do not transfer in or come up through the program, they will always be a 2nd or 3rd round exit regardless of how good Westerberg is.
  11. "Sawyer said in the past year and a half, he has experienced some things from a personal standpoint. Those experiences have led him to rethink not only where he wants to be but also consider where he wants to raise his family." Translation: "Baytown is not where I want to raise my family, regardless of what job opportunities are here for me." This is a guy who previously lived in Hutto. If you've never been there, it's flush with cash and affluent families. Quite the opposite of Baytown and much more similar to Boerne. I understand his decision and would've made the same one.
  12. Nailed it. There is infinitely more money available for a high academic achiever than for a high athletic achiever. Parents will spend an insane number of hours talking athletic scholarships with Little Johnny, but never realize that Little Johnny has virtually not shot to ever get one. The vast majority of our local kids "sign" to D3 schools to further their career, despite the schools not giving athletic scholarships. Therefore, parents pay an astronomically high tuition rate so their kids can play at the next level, but suffer because they didn't pursue academic money beforehand.
  13. The problem is, lots of parents think their kid has a chance at a baseball scholarship and they're not even close. So in the name of "college ain't cheap", they encourage their kids to specialize and take away potential great experiences. Parents need to recalibrate and stop seeing their kids athletic ability as a way to get out of paying for college, and start focusing on what their kids want.
  14. The end has been near since Jesus said the end was near. When you are dealing with an eternal God, everything is near. 100 years is near, 500 years is near. Not up to us to sit around and wait on it, we are to live to God's glory every single day.....whether the end is near or not. This is what you get with "get right" theology. "Get right" because the end is near. They don't realize that God is gathering his children unto Himself. We don't "get right" because the end is near and we fear Hell, we "get right" because the Grace of God compels us and the Holy Spirit regenerates our dead hearts.
  15. What usually happens when coaches are hired as assistants and apply for hc jobs shortly thereafter? I am just wondering if Coach Morgan would have an issue with Bass applying for the BC job prior to every coaching a practice at PAM.
  16. Let me play devil's advocate......What do we do with the fact that there were no criminal charges brought up and this is all stemming from a civil lawsuit? Surratt doesn't strike me as a guy would cover up this type of crime on account of a player, one who wasn't even considered to the a star when it happened, and a coach on his staff. Do you all think we are rushing to judgement here?
  17. Remember guys, this guy was once TCAL coach of the year......he knows his stuff!!
  18. Good luck coach. You did a heck of a job at HI and they’ll have issues finding someone to fill your shoes. Glad you can take a joke!
  19. What do you need? History? Community Support? Overall athletic success? Funding? Education? Tell me one area where Kountze out performs Hardin Jefferson please.
