Is it for hunting or just target shooting/practice? How big/strong is he? What draw length (very important)? There are several very good brands on the market. Any of them would be fine for a first bow. My main question would be what is he using it for? Does he intend to hunt with it or does he just want to learn archery? If he is hunting I think he should be shooting a compound bow. They are generally easier to shoot for most people. Once I know that, I would want to know his strength and ability. Since hunting requires a minimum of a 40 pound pull, you need to be sure that he can handle that much or if it is for target practice, you can get a lighter pull. Also, look for a compound that has 75-80% let-off. That way, once he gets the bow drawn back, he can hold it longer, be more steady and have more time to aim before he tires. It would help if you went to an archery pro shop to have the bow set up for him. It is not necessary but it sure helps, especially if you haven't done it before. Do you intend to surprise him with the bow or does he know he is getting it? If it is a surprise, you might go to an archery shop and pick out a bow with their help and give it to him on Christmas. You can then bring the bown and him in for proper setup. If it is not a surprise and doesn't have to be given on Christmas day, you might go in with him to the archery pro shop and have them set it up for him right then. He can also get some shooting in at the shop since most have 20-30 yard indoor ranges. I got my first recurve bow about 40 years ago. I have been hunting and shooting bows off and on since that time but I am sure not an expert. I have set up a couple of bows but I would rather have it done by a pro. It is much faster and you can usually get the bow tuned better to get the maximum efficiency out of the arrow. I might be able to point you in some directions, according to where you live.

I don't think it exists. Off sides maybe but not a false start. -
Who has the most unique stadium in Southeast texas?
tvc184 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The all look pretty much the same (except size) to me other than WO-S with their concrete stands and Silsbee with the home stands in a hillside. I guess you could toss in Ozen that plays at Lamar with their bowl shaped stadium. That is not a true high school stadium but a loaner. -
The point spread between the three teams is the determining factor. I think that the maximum per game is 16 points so if a team wins 35-0, they only get credit for a +16. Right now Dayton is at -1 and Lumberton is at +1. That is not enough point spread to make much of a difference at this point. Just for example, if Dayton beats PN-G by 10, then they are +10 (PNG win) - 1 (Lumberton loss) = +9 in point spread. PN-G beats Lumberton by 14, then they are 14 (Lumberton win) - 10 (Dayton loss) = +4. Lumberton would be 1 (Dayton win) - 14 (PN-G loss) = -13 That would mean Dayton is first place (+9) PN-G second (+4) Lumberonton third (-13) The largest school of the three goes as Division 1. The other two go as Division 2 in order of their district ranking.

**Mid County Madness/PN-G WINS 28-16 Final/Comments**

Great game by PN-G. They looked like they wanted it more and they took it. It could not be more obvious than the goal line stand with a couple of minutes left in the game. Nederland had 4 shots at a touchdown starting at the 4 yard line. PN-G players rose to the occasion and for all practical purposes, ended the game. -
I don't particularly like being in water where I can't see anyway. I sure don't want to be in the same kind of water and be feeling around for animals. Better him than me.

ANY QUALITY MANAGED DEER LEASES NEAR BEAUMONT?
tvc184 replied to westend1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That is probably true about the smaller leases. Our lease lost about half of its size five years ago down to just under 1,000 acres. I think the trend is toward more managed leases though and it may be a benefit in the long run. I think it is easier to manage 10 hunters than it is to manage 100 hunters. -

The inside position, the best position or anything else like that does not matter. That is not in the rules. To have a catch, a player has to have control over the ball and have contact with the ground in bounds. When two players go into the air after a ball, control is not established until they reach the ground. Who had the better position has no bearing on the call. If the ball is being bobbled in the air or during the catch and both players have their hands on it controlling the ball at the same time, then the offense is awarded the ball. Once they touch the ground together, the play is dead and the ball is given to the offense. This is the rule: COMPLETED PASS ARTICLE 6. Any forward pass is completed when caught by a player of the passing team who is inbounds, and the ball continues in play unless completed in the opponent’s end zone or the pass has been caught simultaneously by opposing players. If a forward pass is caught simultaneously by opposing players inbounds, the ball becomes dead and belongs to the passing team. If the official ruled that the PN-G player had sole possession of the ball when he came down (or never left the ground) then it is his ball. It is a judgment call by the official. If he ruled that both had possession of the ball, no matter who had the better position, then there was an improper ruling on the field. I think the official ruled that the PN-G player had control over the ball (meaning he had established control over the ball and was in contact with the ground) before the Nederland defender put his hands on it. It is a judgment call on the field but the rule needs to be understood before arguing the point. -

There were some iffy calls on both sides last night and fortunately none of which changed the outcome. That crew seemed confused the whole night though. They couldn't get the ball ready for the snap, they had several conferences where it looked like they had no clue what was going on and overall looked like a bunch of rookies. -
Dayton at Little Cypress-Mauriceville Predictions
tvc184 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Tough doesn't describe their playoff chances. More like, wait until next year. LC-M would have to win 4 in a row and then hope for some big time help. More likely LC-M is looking at the cellar this year. -

Permian might hang in there for a half and make it close but the L-Train pulls away from the station by the fourth quarter and runs away with it at the end.

Coop, have you been to MCM before? -
About 10 minutes before the game most of the fans will be on their feet waiting to see their team. You can expect the cheering to start the moment one of the players steps out of the field house and comes into view of their home side. And loud, heavy on the loud................
