PN-G @ Lumberton Predictions
tvc184 replied to beaumontballer44's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
PN-G seems to be having a problem controlling the line of scrimmage on defense right now. If they do not improve rapidly, Lumberton will win this one and still be in decent shape for a playoff spot. Lumberton already has Central and Dayton behind them. PN-G still has to play both of them. -

What mid-county is for southeast Texas is the biggest rivalry in the area. It might not be the best game of the year or even the best game of the week, but the rivalry runs deep. It is not just football. It extends to every UIL sport and down into PeeWee leagues. No other schools will match the intensity in emotions and bragging rights. I have seen a Nederland-PNG basketball game where they were basically playing for last place in the district and they packed the gym. I have seen Nederland-PNG baseball games that drew more people that some area football games. The Nederland-PNG should mean nothing to anyone outside of those communities. Why should it? I could care less about Midland Lee vs Odessa Permian, I don't care how big it is. But for this area, there is nothing that approaches it.

But district championships and playoff spots are not determined by points like they are in high school. You are comparing apples and oranges.

At this point, that looks like a "no brainer". Looks like a Roulette Table for the rest of them. Where will the ball land?

Central-63 Nederland-24 FINAL/POST GAME COMMENTS

No district wins yet, that is a fact. There is also a lot of gums being bumped from a team that has never been to a playoff game in their history, much less the last 10 years in a row. So bump away BIG HOUSE, you aren't there yet. -
IF Nederland beats PN-G (possible), Central beats Lumberton (probable), Dayton beats Vidor (probable) and Ozen beats LC-M (possible), we will have Central and Dayton at 3-0 and six teams at 1-2. It might make for a wild 4 weeks to the finish.

Central-63 Nederland-24 FINAL/POST GAME COMMENTS

Why not? It looks like the 3rd place team might be 3-4. -
Because it was an upset. Teams get upset every year. Many times it is by a team with a losing record. That does not mean that you automatically jump ahead of a team that you beat. Watch high school or college football this year or any year. Watch how an unranked team upsets a highly ranked team. That does not mean that the team that pulled the upset jumps to the head of the class. In 1967, Nederland upset the #2 team in the state, Port Arthur Jefferson. Nederland ended up the year at 5-4-1. Nederland was only 3-3 when they beat TJ. You sure didn't see Nederland jump to the top 10 in Texas because they beat the #2 team in the state. In that year, Nederland only won 2 of 5 district games. Were people prejudiced against Nederland? No, it was an upset and nothing more. You have to leave it at that. If Vidor keeps winning and Nederland keeps losing, you will see Vidor ahead in the rankings in fairly short order. You are trying to make the argument much like some Lumberton fans. They were 3-0 and other teams in the same district were 1-2 or 0-3. A couple of their fans couldn't understand how they were ranked under other teams with losing records. They found out last Friday. It is not to knock Vidor or Lumberton but you can't have a history of losing and win a couple of games and then have everyone else now believe that you will win district or even go to the playoffs. Give it time and read vp93's post. He makes very good points.

Saw deer, as usual. One big doe that I would have loved to have shot, was standing straight under my stand. Before I could get a shot, she spooked and took off. I don't think I made any noise. She was right at the ladder to my stand. I think she would smell that I was there from the stand. Good thing for her. I hope to get both of my does before gun season starts in a month.

No such thing as flying under the radar in district. If there was such a thing, it sure wouldn't be PN-G.

What Will Be Friday's Biggest Shocker?
tvc184 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
While Vidor over Nederland would be an upset, I don't see it as "shocking". I would think something along the lines of HF over WO-S would be bordering on a shocking upset... and no, I don't think it will happen. -
I don't predict Nederland games for that very reason, I don't like the taste of crow. There are always upsets and I don't want to be caught on the wrong side of one.
-
It would be foolish to think that a no school ever gives a passing grade to certain players however it certainly is not a blanket statement. I read where Nederland lost a starter to grades and I think Ozen lost 3. Where were their points?
-
Huh? Where did the man and kids come in at?
-
In the last 10 games against Nederland, Vidor is 1-9 (including a playoff loss) and has been outscored 311-95. Six of Nederland's wins have been by more than 20 points and Vidor's lone win is a 2 pointer. I am not real sure why the big dread of playing Vidor. I am not saying that the previous games have anything to do with tonight's outcome and I am sure that Vidor will come ready to play. I just don't see the big hatred of playing Vidor.
-
Vidor won in preseason in 2001 by a score of 10-8. Their last win over Nederland before that was in 1985 by a score of 15-14 BUT they did not play from 1988 through 1995 The overall record between the schools is Nederland by 48-7-1. Vidor started playing Nederland in 1940 and did not get a win until 1975. They did manage a 0-0 tie in 1960.

Grades should come first. An overwhelming majority of high school football players will have put on their pads the last time when their senior season is over. You had better have something else planned for life after graduation other than remembering a few games in high school. On the other hand, if there was no law regarding No Pass No Play, would you still have them not play? If passing is that important (and I am not saying that it isn't), then why wait for week 6? Why not have the head coach check every week. If a player's grades are passing, then they don't play that week's game. If Texas ended NPNP this year, would anyone then have the coach institute a voluntary version of it locally? How well would that go over? It seems kind of hypocritical to say that grades are the only factor but then only at the 6 week level set by law. Either they are or they aren't and if they are, why wait for the state to mandate a student sit down?

Edit* This should have been a reply! We Will Win
tvc184 replied to jmarc77657's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That might be for the district championship. -
I have no idea what the ruling is but IF a guy can stay on JV during his suspension, I don't see a problem with it. If npnp affects all levels of activities and the player can only get in a single JV game because it is in before a Friday deadly, then no, he shouldn't play IMO.
