I agree it was very close but when it's that close it almost always goes to the champ. There's that mentality that the challenger must earn the defeat. Plus all three judges saw it differently, I thought that was strange.

Great main event fight. I didn’t expect that good of a fight but Edger now has my respect. I’ve never been that impressed with him until last night. Bizarre outcome, he should have won. I expected Lebon and Stan to be a good fight but didn’t expect the knock out, especially in the first round. Guida had much more movement than action but he still got a good win. Silva looked good, Vera looked bad.

West Monroe and Acadiana, unfortunately are not Louisiana's best teams. They may be among them but the best teams in Louisiana, but the best team in Louisiana is John Curtis, a private school that because of it's population gets to play in the 2A ranks. They are allowed to recruit and can draw folks away from the public schools. I am vehemently opposed to the UIL allowing private schools into it's membership. If it does occur, it must happen in the same fashion as Dallas Jesuit and Houston Strake Jesuit were admitted...that is if they come in, they play in the highest classification. Now, finally as to your charge that WO-S is recruiting. It rings of sour grapes from North of I-10 as there is a school in Orange County that has been able to boost its football team because of open enrollment.....the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears.
Yes, sir, that's exactly the method that should be used - making the privates play in the highest classification. Strake Jesuit went "public" in their athletic competition a few years ago, and they are in the same division with the Alief schools. That's the way it should be, if done at all. Grad, let's also remember, concerning the open enrollment comment pointing to WO-S, that the majority of football players who who transferred to LCM from WO-S (and there have been more than a few over the years) were not able to accept the disciplinary demands placed on them in the WO-S program. Sour grapes is correct. ::)
It seems the two of you are quite sensitive about the notion that sometime in the history of WOS’ success a player or players may have experienced some type of recruitment, invite, encouragement or persuasion to play for WOS. There would be nothing wrong with that because that’s one of the advantages of open enrollment. It doesn’t mean Hooks is on the phone recruiting players. There are also several reasons a student or athlete would transfer to LCM and that’s OK too if they move within the district. Two separate districts with plenty to offer in different areas.
Nope, not sensitive. Just sick and tired of hearing allegations or implications that the key to the Mustang's successful football for the last 25 years is due to recruiting and the failure to accept that those kids that are legally within the school district and the coaches that have guided them are just in many cases better. I have defended a number of athletic directors and coaches in other school districts and I decided that it is high time I begin to defend those that are in my home town. If allegations (and I don't mean yours A Bear's Bear, you have adequately explained your position) that have been posted on the board about the Hooks and the Mustangs (which have been left unedited and not removed) would have been posted about any other coach in the area, my pm box would be loaded with calls for locking of threads, deletion of posts and lifetime banishment of posters and my email full of complaint e-mails. Believe me, I know this from experience. Well, from here on in, when the allegation flies, there WILL be at least one graduate of West Orange-Stark High School that fires back. If you wish you wish to dismiss it as sensitivity, so be it.
I truly appreciate your defense of the premier football program in our area. I don’t dispute your claim of defending other programs either but on a thread with one post from Bear (whom you exclude as your reason for your defense) you had no problem pointing your finger north of I 10 and singling out LCM for sour grapes. FYI – I am a proud Stark graduate too.

Agreed about Guida. I don't have direct TV

Looks like a pretty good card tonight. Leban and Stans could be the fight of the night even though there are other possiblities.

I know he got a scholarship from LSU as a FS. What happened to him after college? Is he in the area or living away for SE Texas? I remember playing against him from youth football in Orange County on up to High School but lost track of him after he went to Baton Rouge. He was a great athlete.
Rick played safety while at WO-S. I don't think he ever saw the field at LSU. He was a great athlete and a great leader on that 1985 team.
I watched all of the backs on the list except for Ernest and to me, Adrian Steen Sr. was the most impressive of them all.

Deja vu. Another year with the HW champ out? Who’s next? I don’t know if Dos Santos can handle Lesner -
I have no clue what M1, Strikeforce and Fedor are doing. Their top three HWs have fought one fight each in the last year.

Sounds like a pretty biased writer to me. He acknowledges Silva lost 4 ½ rounds and no one in GSPs division can come close to him but Silva is still the best? He admits Silva has been criticized for his lack luster performances and still talks about Silva’s killer instinct? Does anyone remember him not finishing Thales Leites and how pissed Dana was? Sounds pretty biased to me. He says no one will win them all or fight as their top every time but GSP has not lost a round since 2007. That’s pretty close. No one can come close to GSP in his weight class but the same can’t be said about Silva. By the way Basketball. Thanks for your input. Not a lot posters on these threads lately.
-
I agree Silva's a champion but if you’re trying to prove who the best in the world is, loosing four of your last five rounds does matter. I also agree, I wish GSP would put more effort into finishing a fighter too but Silva didn't finish two of is last four and was criticized by many for his lack of effort. It’s hard to compare five year resumes without considering the recent fight history.
Thanks^^ Scooter, did I win anything like maybe dinner for my wife and me at Texas Roadhouse? ;D If so, I'm gonna brush up on my sarcasm and give her another go. ;D
Scooter says if you go to your nearest Roadhouse, order anything you want, then when they bring the bill tell them that Scooters got it, your meal will be covered. :) -
Good homework pirate. Silva's win over Forrest was one of the most impressive wins I've seen but he hasn't been that impressive to me in his last two fights, not to mention loosing four of five rounds to Chael (Juiced) Sonnen. GSP has totally dominated his opponents (even though his last three have gone to decission) and hasn't lost a round since 2007. Silva moved up for a couple of fights and has now said he wants to stay in his division (comfort zone). I am ready for GSP to move up, hopefully after Sheilds.
-
I disagree and hopefully we'll see them fight in the near future
-
Some good fights. GSP showed why he's the best but I wish he would finish them off. Looks like Shields will be next.
-
Should be great card I hope GSP beats down Kescheck the way I know he should. I hope the fight doesn't go the distance.
-
I think I saw him shoot a duck out of the air with a bow. Took several tries but he did it.

Preperation is the key. Nave a bucket handy with plenty of TP
WITH EVERY BODY PRETTY MUCH MAKING THE PLAYOFFS IT IS NOT VERY HARD.... WELL 4 OUT OF THE 7 TEAMS GOING...HOW ABOUT A DISTRICT TITLE IN 20 YEARS ;)
Everyone wants a state title. How many area 4A teams have won a state title in the last 20 years? -
The open enrollment agenda is not about sports or any other UIL competition. The issue is money and the competition for state funding. That is where districts are now. The current state funding system is so poor that many districts have to change their policies to compete for enrollment. LCM and others will police themselves correctly to prevent any repercussion.
