I can remember wade fishing with my uncle when I was around 8-9 years old in marsh/rice reservoirs in Louisiana. They would SOMETIMES swim up to us in curiosity and my uncle would hit them in the head with his rod, and they would swim off. They were scared of us 99.9% of the time. We almost hunted them into extinction. When the new laws came out and only so many could be hunted per acre, they started not being afraid of us over the years. Then it became cool to feed them, some thinking it is a good thing to do, when in reality it is a death sentence to that alligator. As soon as that alligator associates a human with food, two different bad interactions will happen. It will either result in an injury to a human or a shot alligator for getting too close.
