  1. I agree, we are in a much better place now than then.
  2. I watched Megyn Kelly interview a panel last night and was taken back by some of the comments. Most of the conversation centered around the cops changing and weeding out the racist and bad cops. Some said cops fear blacks because of skin color. Some said the cops were racist. One said Philando Castile was murdered by the cop for no reason, some said because he was scared. Some talked about the video of Alton Sterling as solid proof he was murdered. Some say the system itself is set up to be racist. I have a few questions that I would like to see if anyone can answer with facts. Please take all rules of this forum into consideration when responding. I will shut this down immediately if it gets out of hand. 1. We have seen several officer involved shootings in the last couple of years. Most of the officers have been cleared of any charges, so It appears the officers were following the law. So, if we want the cops to "change", the law will have to be amended or changed as well, otherwise they can legally continue to use the same lethal force. So, Under what circumstances do you feel an officer has a right to make a lethal shot/shots? Would you hold yourself to the same standard? Is there a specific law you would change? 2. If the "system" is a racist system, what would you do specifically to change it. In other words, what specific law do you think is racist, and how would you change it? 3. If you are 100% sure Philando Castile was murdered, how do you know? The only video I have watched was after the fact. If it is OK to convict this officer for murder based on a video after the shooting occurred, would you want that same standard used on you, if you ever had to use lethal force? Please stay on topic and answer the specific questions. Thanks!
  3. I'm the same way......except I won't let a young cop give me "a lecture", when he starts I just ask for the ticket.....but I'm polite as heck:)
  4. Why would a felon in procession of a gun resist a verbal command, a tazer, and finally a physical take down? Everyone close your eyes and pretend this guy is a love one of yours. If this was my Son(and that is even hard for me imagine because of the hurt), I would be so disappointed in HIS actions. I would be mad as hell at the cops, but I would be disappointed in MY Son. I would know deep down it could of been prevented had he just followed the officers commands. Justified or not, had the man complied we would 99.99% not be discussing this. I was discussing on Facebook with some people and found out even highly educated people have no clue of their rights versus cops rights. One guy told me that a cop could not legally handcuff you until he told you why he was putting the handcuffs on. WRONG! I gave a scenario of a guy with a gun in his pocket, with a cop repeatedly asking him to put his hands up. I said when would it be OK for the cop to fire on the suspect. One of the 3 answers was "when the suspect reaches in his pocket, pulls the gun out and points it at the officer" He said none of the answers were correct. "A perceived threat is not a reason to use lethal force". He thought the suspect must fire first so the cop could "meet lethal force with lethal force". I could not convince him otherwise. We have people on social media wrongly telling folks "their legal rights", and I think that is the root of the problem. Most of the deaths could have been prevented had they complied. Most of these deaths have people resisting. Stop RESISTING! I know cops make mistakes and their are crooked ones. If nothing else, not resisting increases your odds that you live....... We need a smart Cop that knows the law and case law to make a post about when lethal force can be used. Just sayin......might save a life
  5. We are jumping to conclusions again without even seeing the initial contact that caused the death. The cop could be guilty as heck, or not. All I seen was a man bleeding and a cop in a panic stating he told him not to reach for the gun. Hopefully we can see his body-cam soon.
  6. What exactly does this have to do with Republicans? We don't even know what happened other than her Facebook post. By the way, of I am ever shot by anyone, please get off Facebook, take your shirt off and apply pressure to as many wounds as you can....
  7. Hopefully he will read this and get back on
  8. Lots of unanswered questions for sure. This thing is blowing up on Facebook.
  9. Here is something to think about...... Trump has around 75 people working his campaign, while Hillary has about 875. Trump has spent almost nothing compared to Hillary in advertising dollars...... Between now and November, Trump plans on spending $700,000 and Hillary $117,000,000.00 (MILLION) You would think he would not be a blip on the radar......but he is..... So, don't count him out....... P.S. He was not my first choice, but I will not vote for Hillary.
  10. There was a twenty something page post on The Orange cop that killed the unarmed retired vet. I'm sure it was lost in the crash. I wish it was around to bump back up to the top of the forum. I recall most of the folks on this forum thought the cop was in fear of his life or wanted to wait for further information. Buddy, you recall?
  11. I did say it was wrong. I was not trying to make the subject less offensve, just being honest with my assessment.
  12. Why, because I wouldn't notice? I don't read "the rules" sign on public swimming pools. I did look at the sign, but I can't tell you how many kids total were in the picture. Can you? I did get the general message of what activities were cool and what was not cool.
  13. If they even looked at it that closely. It is wrong, but I probably would have never noticed it.
  14. I hear ya. You could get one heck of a home in Port Arthur. I don't know the answer and hopefully this new Mayor will make a name for himself. I would like to see PA turn around.
  15. As a Port Arthur native with my parents still living there, what do you think the answer is to the high crime rate? Living in Lumberton, I miss the 15 minute drive to Pleasure Island to salt water fish, the 10 minute drive to Taylor's Bayou to freshwater fish (or both depending), or the 5 minute drive to the Rainbow Bridge to fish. We have two options in Lumberton and they are both the same, Pine Island Bayou or Village Creek. There are such cool homes there, but with unemployment and crime, I don't see people rushing to buy houses. As a matter of fact, about 4 years ago, there was a house for sale in Griffin park for $199,000. It may have been the old Drago house, not sure about that, but it was 5500 Sq Feet with dual staircases when you walked in the front door. It was beautiful! That is $36 bucks a SQ FT......
  16. If you get caught in a Hurricane, you wanted to be there....earthquakes and Tornadoes......not so much
  17. Dove, It has been a long time, hope all is well. Now, I think if you surveyed everyone in this group, no one is saying that everyone of the Muslim/Islamic faith is evil or dangerous. Is there a potential threat that some are evil and dangerous? Absolutely, it has been proven. The chance of getting killed by a terrorist is less than getting in a car wreck......but telling that to the families of those that died in Orlando would not do much in terms of comfort. Terrorism is a real problem and ignoring it or downplaying the threat ("the JV Team") is not going to make it go away. There needs to be real conversation from both sides to put measures in place to address it. just like on this forum, everyone is ready to win the argument without listening to the other side.
  18. I initially came to this thread to shut it down because I feel it is somewhat race baiting and destined to be locked anyway. I was actually surprised at the conversation and how well it is going. Hopefully we can have a conversation, learn something from each other, and that is very possible if everyone does not try to "win". It seems everyone wants to shame the other side and prove they are right to achieve the moral victory. We all come from different backgrounds and have different experiences in our past. Dove and I have a history on this site, and I know our backgrounds are different. He experienced many things that I have not, and I have experienced things he hasn't. We all give perspectives based on life experience. We need to use that to learn each other and stop trying to win. As an observation, we should all take a look at nappyroots. He seems to want to learn and seems very fair minded. I have not read all of his post, but the ones I have read I have came to that conclusion. To keep this thread from getting locked will take effort from everyone.......lets all learn something..... Don't be "the one" that gets the thread locked...
  19. I saw the news on this..... There has to be more to this story........too bizarre
  20. The topic is Liberalism versus Conservatism and we are already talking about Racism.... I feel Trump is unfiltered, but I wouldn't call him a Racist. Would it really be THAT horrible if we put a stop to accepting immigrants from certain places until we have a handle on who is coming in? Let's also stop the personal attacks before I start giving warnings.
  21. They released the ENTIRE transcript..... What a stupid move to try and censor. Who was the idiot that thought that would not backfire.....?
