Why in the world would we want to go to the WAC?!  Granted, the money would be great but other than that it is just crazy.
As others have posted in previous threads, it would only make sense if they could establish an Eastern division around La Tech of Tx, NM, OK, Ark, or La schools so that it would reduce travel requirements.  However UTSA may not care about that and be willing to travel out west for the majority of their games.
That's exactly right.  It only makes sense if there's an Eastern division, which I think there's a good chance of that happening.  By going FBS then you can get the Sun Belt and CUSA type schools into Beaumont, otherwise we'll see these non-D1 schools every year.  Basketball would be a lot more fun with teams like La Tech, Utah State and New Mexico State coming to town.  But Dr. Simmons may not want Lamar to go FBS at this time.
We can't even win iin the SLC.  And what kind of rivalry would it be playing Utah State or New Mexico State?  Big whoop.  Who is going to make that road trip?
Joining the WAC around Tech would make La-tech a rival again...maybe ULL and Ark st too...long shot UNT.

Their best (and most successful) home game was against Grambling. Funny thing - same can be said for ULL. Most successful home games against Southern and McNeese!
UL-Monroe played Alabama at home and beat them. Could UL-Monroe have done this in the Southland? Noooooooooooooooooooo.
 3. Everyone is fired up because of the return of football. How long will the community stay fired up playing the webber internationals and UTSA/Texas st DII replacements year after year. The big name schools like Tech,ULL, UNT, UL-Monroe are playing home games against Arkansas, BYU, Okie st, K-st.
 4. LU should use this game to develope the running game and let reserves play all the 4th.
 5. If LU expanded the stadium to 40k, the game would still be sold out.
 6. Too many people around town is talking LAMAR. I think the game is already sold out. I think this excitement will grow basketball attendance by extra 2k-3k.
 7.

That said...when I said DI, I meant FBS..I just don't like the whole FBS, FCS crap. Lamar is, for all intent and purposes, still a DI-AA school, not DI (regardless of whether it's called FCS or DI-AA...you know what I mean). I'm still living in the past on that one...ha! And waiting for the day the BCS collapses (it's coming) and we return to the original labels.
I don't like the FBS FCS stuff either and think the DI-AA and DI-A is more descriptive for the football subdivisions for DI.  But I understand why they changed the name.  To many people "out of the know" were getting DI-AA confused with Division II
Many DII schools are better than the average FCS school. Ask UCA...
 8.
Man...I'm going to have to get an interpreter and get back with you on all of that. It made no sense at all. Not even going to try to address it except to say that I am aware of how the process works (just wanted clarification on the stadium capacity requirements) and I do not think LU should try to move forward, etc. Just an opinion. Lastly, if it's a matter of FBS inviting Lamar then this discussion is probably moot anyway because I doubt that will ever happen. God bless! P.S. This will be the end of my discussion of this topic. It looks like it's going south and I'd rather not go there. Take care!
If you do not want LU to move up is your opinion. Ok fine, I disagree. It's when you throw around flawed logic like ULM couldn't, therefore Lamar can't.
 9.
TT, I was at the game and McNeese ran quite a bit more than 5 plays from their playbook.  They didn't try any trick plays, but they were by no means just going through the motions as if this was an intrasquad scrimmage.  This may have been a bigger game for LU because it was the first one but I think it was pretty big for the cowboys as well being it was a a big rival in Lamar.  I think you may be getting some excuse making for the game being closer than some would have liked.
Mcneese did a desperate fake punt in a drive. Mcneese won but they were clearly shaken...
 10. I didn't say anything, but I was planning my outrage post LU had not gotten votes. Congrads cards...keep it going. Eat crow Terror...LOL.
 11.
Very much agree on the playoff comment. At least, at the DI-AA (FCS) level, someone with a brain exists to keep the playoff format alive. In I-AA, the championship is determined on the field, not by sportswriters/coaches (and the computer rankings derived from the opinions of these same sportswriters/coaches).
Stop being so naive. Terror insults you and every Cardinal fan with a smile and you only see the smile. Terror is not for anything positive for LU.
McNeese is a shining example of why LU should stay I-AA (FCS). The Cowboys benefitted greatly when LU dropped its program because it's recruiting ground doubled in size. Granted, LU has probably sliced that a bit now but if anyone thinks LU is going to recruit at the DI (FBS) level against UT, A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, UH, etc. then I've got some "high" land to sell you in the Sabine river bottom. It will never happen. LU will be stuck in a sub-par conference (Sunbelt, etc.) with no chance of competing outside that conference and with their only hope being that someday they may get a chance to play in the Independence Bowl (if all of the Louisiana schools suck wind that year..ha).
How the heck you know what LU is capable of doing or not doing. Just because school X failed doesn't mean school Y will. You always point out the failed schools but never point out the successful schools. Is this how you approach life for yourself. Well ole willy dropped out of college so I might as well not waste my time too. Ofcourse you don not apply that to yourself, so don't apply it to LU
Not trying to take the air out of the LU comeback. I'm excited...especially after the performance against McNeese but I just can't see why anyone would want to "move too fast" towards what would probably be a big "mistake". Give it time and let's see what LU can accomplish at the FCS level first. One question about this...maybe someone can clear it up...Isn't there a stadium capacity requirement for FBS? I was under the impression it was somewhere in the 30,000 range and a school had to have an average attendance of some number before they could even apply to become FBS. God Bless!
What part of FBS invites only do you not understand? 5 to 10 years from now FBS will not stop operations because LU is ready to go FBS. If LU get an invite, it can come tomorrow or  20 years or never. This is not LU decision. LU only decides if to take the invitation or reject it.
 12.

That said...when I said DI, I meant FBS..I just don't like the whole FBS, FCS crap. And waiting for the day the BCS collapses (it's coming) and we return to the original labels.
At least, keep in mind that Lamar is (or will be) eligible for the NCAA Division I national championship in football as a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The same can not be said for the Texas, USC, Florida, LSU type schools who compete solely for a crystal ball, not recognized by the NCAA. ;)
UL-Monroe was making 50k in profits after FBS...Let me be clear, the whole athletic program.
ULM's athletic program has completely fallen off since taking all their sports to the Sun Belt. They finished dead last in the Vic Bubas Cup for all-around sports performance of schools and have since their arrival (amongst schools that compete in the full allotment of SBC sports). Their budget would not be tops in the SLC and I figure, they'd struggle to compete in the SLC on a consistent basis nowadays as well... Your men's basketball program is already in the dumps at Lamar compared to where you would like it to be. If you think it is bad now, a move to an FBS conference would probably put to bed any chance the Cards had at building a respectable program again, even by mid-major standards. Just my opinion...
As if Terror cares if LU can win a national title. So let me translate this post for you. "Oh please please Lamar, don't leave the SLC. We NEED you. I'm begging"
 13.
Just curious why Lamar, a small commuter college in a small city, would want to go DI anyway. I would think the lack of success among the Louisiana schools (Lafayette/Monroe, etc.) would be enough reason to avoid this, at least for right now. It just seems pre-mature to me. LU has a shot at building a top notch I-AA program. Why bite off more than they can chew? Give the fans a chance to be part of a winning tradition (fill the seats, etc.) before you submit an application to what will be a sure blood fest for years to come. If you want to see empty seats at Cardinal Stadium, go DI too fast. We have proven time and again that we are fair-weather fans who flock when things are good and hide when they're not. Give the fans something to flock to for a few years, maybe forever...before jumping into the abyss. Just my two cents! God bless!
UL-Monroe was making 50k in profits after FBS...Let me be clear, the whole athletic program.
 14. If Mcneese had won 61-0, Terror would be all over this board. The pride of the SLC, the flagship of slc football. Next year LU destroys Mneese.
 15.
Some brief thoughts from the sidelines: -Lamar does not have a running game. If they did, they may have won this one. -Lamar had 2 years to prepare for McNeese State, MSU didnt have much on LU, and did NOT do a very good job of adjusting on the run. -McNeese gave Lamar some very good gifts = fumbles. If MCN doesn't fumble, they probably win this game by 2-3 TDs. -Bevil throws a very good ball. -LU was more physical than MCN. -19,000+ in attendance. -Artificial turf was very slick. Will be interesting now to see how LU will matchup with other SLC teams, because other teams will have tape on them. I don't know much about Weber International, but I would think it will be an easy win for Lamar.
Yeah and if Mcneese didn't get all the favorable home cooking calls or no calls that lead to Mcneese scores. The game was what it was, a Mcneese 3 point win. Just as I predicted...I said 41-38.
 16.

TexasTerror, I didn't think you liked our schedule. Now you are stating "the Cards actually have one of the better schedules of a start-up program".
I do not like the fact you guys are entering the SLC in '11. The schedule is not surprising or much of a stretch by any means. I've probably defended your schedule more than berated it, especially with some of the negative folks like UNLV who prefer to run Lamar into the ground...
Who on this forum believes Terror would be upset to see LU run into the ground?  The truth is Terror is outraged by the solid growth of LU. However I kinda agree with Terror on this, I don't want to see LU in the SLC at anytime. It was I-AA, FCS, JV ball that ran LU into the ground for 21 years.
Wasn't that ULM "home game" against Arkansas in Little Rock, Arkansas? That sounds great! UNLV would probably love to host Southern Cal in San Diego, eh? ULL got Oklahoma State, but wasn't it a 2-for-1? That stinks. Doubt TXST does as well as UTSA as far as scheduling.
All of which is better than home vs langston...
 18.

Texas st going FBS will see an instant jump in attendance. Texas st then could bring in home games the likes of BYU, Alabama, K-st, Houston, TCU, and Texas Tech type teams.
Yep, just like ULL, ULM, North Texas, and Ark St. brings them in. ::) Doc
La tech home and home with BYU, UNT home with K-st, ULM home Arkansas, ull OK st... 19. Texas st going FBS will see an instant jump in attendance. Texas st then could bring in home games the likes of BYU, Alabama, K-st, Houston, TCU, and Texas Tech type teams. I think PU should be expanded to 40k if LU goes FBS. I am very sure Texas st and UTSA is getting the WAC invite spring 2011 or sooner. LU should join them. This a big door opening to FBS. Once you are in, you are in. Nobody can knock you out. FBS is working overtime to stop FCS upgrades and eventually it will happen. So LU can't mess around being too picky about moving up or LU will find itself locked out.
 20.
Saw the University Press today.  Dr. Simmons stated that enrollment at the Beaumont campus could be about 1000 more than last year.  That's quite a jump.  The Kampus Korner has remodeled and is more of a sports bar now.  3 or 4 new restaurants/businesses are coming to the campus area this coming year.  He also stated the external research funding is now at $12 million, up from $3 million about 4 years ago.  Great things are happening on campus!
Yes, very good solid growth. I think the research goal is $80 million so they have a long way to go.
 21. Actually it is driving me nutts to always see other schools leave LU in the dust.
 22.
For those wanting to talk conference realignment, The Big 12 is currently two short.  How about Houston and TCU to the B12 or can they steal tier 1 schools from some other BCS Conference?
Big 12 already has the Texas market, TCU and Houston bring nothing.
 23.

La Tech gets a home and home football with BYU in 11 and 12. Lamar could be doing the samet-err, no, that would be thinking too big. SETX and Lamar couldn't measure up to Ruston, La. We should stay FCS for 5-10 years until everything is perfect.   ::)
BYU coming into play LU in PU Stadium expanded to 30k is a no brainer.  It would be filled and be the biggest sporting event ever in the history of Beaumont.
But but but many of our forum members and their connections to LU big wigs thinks FCS and bringing in Langston and Webber International is good enough.
